<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

For: Device for automatic regulation of the operation of a refrigerating machine driven by a single-phase motor with squirrel cage armature.
The invention relates to a device for the automatic regulation of the operation of an action-refrigerating machine. born by a single-phase motor with armature in squirrel cage. This device is characterized in that it performs the switching on and off of the commando motor in a manner known per se as a function of the temperature of the refrigeration chamber, and the addition of auxiliary phase required to start the single-phase motor as a function of the starting current of the main phase, while this auxiliary phase is switched off as a function of the intensity of both the main phase current and of the main phase. that of the auxiliary phase, and in that it subordinates the starting of the control motor to at least one of the following factors:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
temperature, current intensity of a determined part of the motor or of its auxiliary equipment in such a way that starting can only take place when the value of the respective factor has fallen below a determined value.
In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example the diagram of an embodiment of the object of the invention.
1 y designates a single-phase network, S represents a switch.
The device comprises three relays, R1, R2, R3, the respective windings of which are designated by Wl, W and W3, W4. by A1, A2, A3, are designated armatures corresponding to the three relays R1, R2, R3 and which can oscillate respectively around the points O1, O2 and o. S1 represents a small toggle switch which is actuated by relay R1, while S is a mercury toggle switch which is influenced by relay R2 via a lever h. S3 is another mercury toggle switch, which is actuated by relay R3 through a lever i. M designates the stator winding of a single-phase asynchronous motor, made up of a main winding H and an auxiliary winding Z.
A contact thermometer T1 fitted with two connection terminals 8 and 9 is subjected to the temperature of the refrigerating chamber, while T2 represents a second contact thermometer fitted with three connection terminals 42, 43, 44, which is subjected to the temperature of the starting rheostat U of the motor.
The operation of the device described is as follows:
Switch S is assumed to be closed. As long as the temperature inside the refrigeration chamber has not reached a determined maximum value, the various components of the device
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
sitif occupy the position indicated in the drawing. But as soon as the temperature of the refrigerating chamber reaches a determined value, the contacts 8 and 9 of the contact thermometer T1 are electrically connected through the intermediary of the mercury which expands inside said thermometer. The circuit of relay R2 is thus closed and the current which passes through it leaves network 1 and follows path 2, S, 3, 4,5, 6,7, 8, 9. lo, 11, W1, 12 , 13, 14, S1, 15, 16, 17, 18, S to return to network 1 in 19.
The relay R being energized by the current closes via the lever h the switch
2 at mercury S which then closes the circuit of the winding H for the main current of the control motor, A current then flows from the network 1 through 19, S, 18, 17, S2, 20, 21, 22, H , 23, 24, 25, W3, 26, 27,4, 3, S and 2 where it returns to network 1. This starting current, the intensity of which exceeds several times that of the normal operating current of the phase main, produces an immediate excitation of the relay R3, which switches on the mercury switch S3 through the intermediary of the lever 1. In this way the auxiliary phase Z is also connected to the mains voltage, with the rheostat U boot which is connected in series with it.
Therefore there is also a current circulating from 26 by 28, 29, S3, 30, 31, W4, 32, 33, 34, U, 35, 36, 37, Z, 22, 21, 20, S2, 17, 18 , S, 19 and return to network 1. As can be seen from the drawing, this circuit passes between 31 and 32 through winding W4 which also acts on relay R3. This winding W4 is arranged with respect to the winding W3 in such a way that the magnetic fields generated by the two windings W3 and W4 through which the current flows, act opposite to each other.
The purpose of this device
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
is as follows: once relay R3 has drawn its armor under the influence of the starting current flowing through the main phase H, a fraction of the current just mentioned is sufficient to maintain the armature A once drawn, in this position. If the intensity of the main current then falls from the starting value to the normal operating value which is considerably less, it may occur, if the relay R3 is not set in a strictly precise manner, that the relay R3 cannot release its armor A3 in a safe way, or even not at all.
The auxiliary winding Z and its additional resistance U, which are only calculated for a short working time, would thus receive current permanently and risk being destroyed. To avoid this risk, that is to say to obtain the certainty of tripping of relay R3 as soon as the motor has been started 4, a special bearing W generates at relay R3 an antagonistic field as soon as the relay is energized, so so that the magnetic attraction that this relay exerts on its armature A3 is weakened, and tripping of armature A3 is ensured as soon as the starting current of the actor has fallen to its normal operating value.
Another element of the circuit of the auxiliary phase is formed by the starting resistor U interposed between points 34 and 35.
The heat generated in this resistor during the starting period is transmitted in part to the contact thermometer T2 by conduction and by radiation. With a normal starting of the engine the time which this one requires, and the heat generated during this time in the resistance, of starting U are so minimal that the colony of mercury does not reach.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the ignition does not turn off 44. But if, for some reason, the engine does not start, that is to say if the starting state of the engine persists for a certain time, the mercury rises in the contact thermometer T2 and passes the contact 43, without anything happening, until it finally reaches the contact 44 and thus closes the circuit of the relay R1.
The current influencing this relay flows from 4 through 5,6, 38, 39, W1, 40, 41, 42, 44,45, 15,16, 17, 18, and returns through S at 19 to network 1. Relay R1 is therefore energized and attracts its armor A1, so that switch S1 passes from position 15 - 14 which it occupied until then, to its new position 15 - 17. Therefore the circuit of relay R2 is interrupted at point 14, and tripping of this relay switches off the motor by means of the mercury switch S2.
When the mercury begins to fall back down at the T2 contact thermometer, since the release of heat has ceased in the starting resistor, there is first a break in the conductive connection between the mercury and the contact 44.
1 The relay R however continues to be energized anyway thanks to a relay circuit 42, 43, 46, 7, S1, 15 which has been established, parallel to the circuit 42,44, 45,15 by the excitation of the re- lais R1. It is only when the mercury level of the test contact thermometer has dropped below point 43, that the circuit of relay R1 is interrupted and this relay is tripped. As a result of this tripping, switch s1 drops from its position 15 - 7 to the previous position 15 - 14 and thus closes the circuit of relay R2 at point 14.
If at this moment the temperature of the refrigerating chamber is high enough, that is to say if points 8 and 9, of the contact thermometer T1 are electrically connected by mercury, the operations which come from 'being described may be repeated again.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The starting of the motor, instead of taking place as a function of the temperature of the starting resistor U, in the manner which has just been described, could also take place as a function of the temperature of another component. of the motor or its accessory equipment, for example of the temperature of the motor winding, or of the motor iron, of the resistance of the starting device, of the reaction coil or of the capacitor. The possibility of starting can also be made a function of the intensity of the current flowing through one of the stated parts of the motor or of its accessory equipment, or it can be a function of both an intensity of the current and a temperature.
The T2 thermometer can also be exposed both to the temperature of a part of the engine or its accessory equipment and to that of the condenser in order to make it impossible to start the engine as well, as long as the temperature at the condenser has not fallen below a determined value.
