<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Steam generator particularly intended for steam vehicles, such as locomotives, locomobiles, automobiles etc.
Little has been done so far in steam installations and in particular in mobile installations to condense the exhaust vapor with a complete recovery system in order to obtain the best possible efficiency, and also to close the circuit in order to reduce to minimum the amount of makeup fluid required.
The present invention relates to a generator making it possible to achieve better production and use of water vapor or of any other fluid, and to combine the use of high pressures and high superheating with as great a recovery as possible. this generator which is more particularly applicable to mobile installations such as locomotives, locomobiles, motor vehicles

biles etc ... comprises a certain number of boilers or heaters heated by heat exchangers working in a closed circuit and placed one after the other, on the path of the hot gases coming from the hearth.
This arrangement has the essential peculiarity that the boilers are interconnected, on the one hand at their lower part, to allow the circulation, according to the principle of the counter-current, of the feed water which is brought into the water. the cooler boiler, and on the other hand at their upper part, to equalize the steam pressures prevailing in the boilers.
The steam is taken above the body of water from the hottest boiler to be brought to a superheater and to the engine which can be of the multiple expansion type and whose cylinders of the different pressure stages are thus connected in series. .
This arrangement, which is the reverse of that which exists in multiple expansion machines hitherto used in combination with a generator comprising several boilers, since in the latter, the boilers are separated and respectively connected to the cylinders of the different pressure stages, avoids the distribution and coupling complications inherent in the separation of the boilers and cylinders.
In addition, it is possible to place between two successive stages a receiver which allows intermediate reheating of the steam coming from working in one of the stages and going into the other, by means of a superheated steam bypass, or not, directly from the superheater placed at the outlet of the hottest boiler, or directly from it.
Finally, in the generator which is the object of the invention, the aim was to achieve as great a heat recovery as possible, and it is thus that the steam after having worked in the different stages is partially condensed, in a heater. air blown into the fireplace and partially into a heater

of water, eventually returning to the cooler heater with the feed water.
The description which will follow with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
The only figure in the drawing shows schematically in longitudinal section a steam generator produced in accordance with the principle which has just been stated.
In this figure g denotes the grid on which the fuel is burned and the combustion gases escape along arrow 11 passing over a first exchanger e1 where. water, for example, is vaporized. This water will condense in an exchanger bundle e2 placed in the boiler t1 and by condensing it vaporizes the water contained in this boiler and thus produces steam at high pressure.
The gases continuing their journey then pass over a superheater where they bring the temperature of the steam coming from the boiler t 1 to a high pressure, at a determined temperature.
Continuing their journey, these gases then come to an e3 exchanger where they will cool completely by vaporizing the water contained in this bundle.
The vapor coming from this bundle e 3 goes into the exchanger e4 contained in the boiler t2 and condenses there by heating or vaporizing the water in this boiler.
This heated water can be routed through the tube c2 to the boiler t1 where it will be completely vaporized.
It is obvious that there could thus be several boilers and several closed circuit exchangers, working either at the same pressure as in the example given, or at different pressures corresponding to special machines or for different purposes ( motive power, heating or other ..).

In the embodiment shown in the drawing the two boilers.! 1 and t2 communicate at their upper part by the tube c1 and thus working at the same vapor pressure as at their lower part, they are connected by a tube c which allows the feed water introduced into the boiler t2 to pass from this boiler to the boiler t under the effect of the difference in level resulting from the differences in vaporization.
The steam produced in the boilers and superheated in the superheater is conducted through pipe c3 to a high pressure machine m1 where it expands to near its saturation point providing some work.
The exhaust steam leaving this machine m1 is then directed through the pipe ± to a reheater f where its temperature is raised under the same pressure, thanks to part of the high pressure steam taken for example from the pipe c3 and which through tube c5 is conducted into exchanger e5 of the reheater where it condenses and returns through tube ± 6 to boiler t1, still being at a very high temperature and practically at boiler pressure 1 1. The steam used for the warmer. fage can thus advantageously circulate by thermosiphon inside these exchangers.
At the outlet of the superheater, the steam is routed through the tube. 7 to a machine operating at lower pressure even where it relaxes.
When it comes out of the machine, part of this steam can be used to ensure the draft of the boiler and end up through the tube c8 towards the chimney h, the other part will escape through the tube c9 to a combustion air heater in which the air entering towards the front part, following arrow f2 is then discharged, for example thanks to the speed of the machine, under the grid g, through a pipe b, during that the exhaust vapor comes from, 2 9 cools in the serpentine and escapes through the tube c10.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
This air heater can be advantageously combined with an exhaust gas air heater and would in this case be placed before the chimney.! 1 in the direction of travel of the vehicle, so that the air is first heated by steam and then by gases.
The steam then goes to a feedwater heater where it gives up part of its heat through coil e7 to the water in heater d.
The water coming from the exhaust is then condensed, it will be deoiled in the device i and will be added in the tank k to the water coming from the tender by the tube c11 which has been reheated d and falls into k through tube c12.
This water is then delivered by the pump and into the boiler t2 where it can again be heated and even vaporized.
At the walking pace of the machine, where the boiler! 2 vapo-
1 2 would be the two boilers 1 and 1 can constitute a single boiler communicating through their lower part, so that the hot water from 1 can be routed to 1 where it will be vaporized, these two boilers also communicating with their upper part so that the vapor of t2 can also reach the machines.
It is obvious that without departing from the scope of the invention, it is possible to provide several successive detents in different machines, by having several intermediate heaters to improve the total efficiency. Likewise, the steam led by the tube c7 to the exhaust, can be used in a low pressure engine to actuate a fan regulating the draft, and which in the event of stopping the machine would be actuated by the steam taken directly to the boiler.
