<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"BAKING PROCESS FOR BRICKS".
In the manufacture of bricks, it is known to incorporate fuel into the raw material or composition. According to the procedure followed hitherto, light porous bricks have been obtained in this way. The present invention is based on the surprising finding that, by incorporating fuel into the material, very strong bricks can be made, instead of porous bricks with less strength. Depending on the material to be treated, the compressive strength can be more than doubled under certain conditions.
The new process consists in incorporating into the raw material fuels in the finely divided state in an amount at most sufficient for complete cooking.
Bricks of all kinds can be made in this way, for example, tiles that must meet special conditions.
To obtain the desired result, that is to say to obtain a solid brick. And as dense / as possible, it is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is essential, in the first instance, to avoid excess quantities of fuel, and in the second place, the fuel should also be used in the fine state, although a little greater latitude is left with regard to In general, it can be said that by employing lean fuels the grain size may be somewhat larger than that of other fuels; however, one should avoid the distinctly granular state as 'was used for obtaining porous bricks.
As fuels, preferably coke or a fuel having properties similar to those of coke is used. In general, preference should be given to lean fuels.
If fuel is not added to the material in sufficient quantities for complete cooking, the heat required for such cooking can be supplied in any known manner, for example by the continuous inlet process. distribution between the bricks, during training, the fuel in a finely divided state which is necessary for complete cooking, and thus one is able to produce also by the combustion of coke or of similar fuels the heat to be brought from the engineer.
In practice, one can operate in the following way: One adds to the raw material, in the mill with wheels, of the small coke etc ... in quantity at the most sufficient for the complete cooking, one lets pass the mixture by the burr mill and then it is passed through a fine roll mill.
In this way, the fuel is brought on the one hand to the necessary fine state and, on the other hand, an intimate mixture with the material is produced.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
However, it is also possible to grind the fuel from the fine state and mix it with the raw material; it is possible, for example, to incorporate coke dust into the material.
A still important condition is the uniform distribution in the mass.
The molded part manufactured according to known procedures is introduced into the furnace in which it is fired with or without admission of other quantities of fuel depending on the quantities of fuel existing in the raw material.
The newly developed product shows extraordinary strength right down to the inner core. It has high compressive strength, special density, and it is also distinguished by high stability at high temperatures. Another important advantage of the new process is that the lime in moxoels and sulfur compounds of the raw material, which cause cloudiness and efflorescence, are neutralized.
It follows that the new process is of extraordinary importance for the treatment of raw materials in bricks which contain lime, and of all other raw materials which can easily cause efflorescence of the ouite brick,
The process makes it possible to achieve a great saving in fuel; as a result of the extremely favorable use of fuels, their consumption is reduced, as the case may be, by half or even less, compared with that required by the previous cooking processes. In addition, the fire can be allowed to progress more quickly, so that the efficiency of the oven
