Process for manufacturing artificial silk thread obtained by the ammoniacal copper, viscose, collodion or acetate process and having finesse to the touch, a rich texture that can be graduated to matt, as well as the ability to dye in a uniform manner.
A disadvantage of artificial silk is its disagreeable metallic luster, whereby it is clearly distinguished from natural silk, as well as its insufficient softness to the touch.
Attempts have been made to eliminate these drawbacks by various methods. For this purpose, the most diverse preparations, bearing fanciful names, which were intended to give the finished product a better appearance and a greater softness to the touch, were employed, but without much success, as these qualities disappeared during the dyeing operation.
Certain processes went further and aimed to obtain, by means of additions given to the liquids of which the thread is formed, more stable modifications of the qualities of the silk.

artificial. As additions, oils were most often used. The products thus obtained were much better, but this process also did not allow the complete elimination of the aforementioned drawbacks. Indeed, the artificial silk prepared in this way does not dye in a uniform way, which is certainly due to the fact that the oils are not eliminated uniformly by the various liquids that the silk thread must pass through before its treatment. final.
The above-mentioned disadvantages are to a large extent eliminated by the new manufacturing process. raw material (or semi-finished products) from which artificial silk is made.
The invention consists in adding cotton (in the ammoniacal copper process), alkalicellulose (in the viscose process), nitrocellulose (in the collodion process), acetylcellulose ( in the acetate process), combinations of boron, such as boric acid, borax or the like. These combinations can be used with the following compounds.
1) with fats or free fatty acids,
2) with monovalent or polyvalent alcohols,
3) with invert sugar,
4) with organic compounds containing several hydroxyl groups, 5) with aliphatic hydrocarbons, naphthenes and terpenes.
It has been found that the boron combinations introduced in this way are bound so tightly that they essentially change the qualities of the artificial silk thread, which becomes elastic. The invention also makes it possible to manufacture a yarn having a rich luster similar to that of natural silk, or with a lower luster up to

absolute matt, which depends on the amount of the additions mentioned above. This preparation also promotes the stability of the fineness to the touch of the yarn.
At the same time, a uniform dyeing of artificial silk is obtained.
