Pour combattre des buts aériens on remonte l'affût intermédiai- re en le fa.isant pivoter vers le haut dans l'affût inférieur de façon que 1 "axe de rotation du canon, qui se trouvait jusqu'alors horizontal dans la direction de l'affût soit sensiblement ou com- plètement vertical. ceci assure au canon une possibilité illimitée de pointage dans l' espace. Le pointage en hauteur a lieu alors de préférence de la même façon que pour une faible hauteur de tir, bar le pivotement autour de l'axe des tourillons de flasques;

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Artillery piece on carriage, wheels.
The present invention relates to an artillery piece mounted on a wheeled mount and comprising, to allow the height of the fire to be varied, an intermediate mount pivoting in height in the interior mount, and its object is to enable such pieces, which lend themselves to full-force and vertical shooting, can be used, by creating the possibility of pivoting the tube in all directions, with rapid adjustment of position, to shoot at goals at rapid movement, for example air vehicles.
For this purpose, the tube of the workpiece is pivotally mounted in the intermediate mount around three pointing axes which cross or intersect, the three pointing axes of the tube are preferably mounted in the intermediate mount in such a way that, the intermediate mount being brought to the desired position for a low firing height for direct firing and, one of the three pivot axes of the tube is horizontal or substantially horizontal and in the direction

longitudinal of the lookout, while the other two axes are in a position corresponding to the usual position of the pointing axis in the direction and of the axis of the flange journals in the artillery pieces, i.e. one is then vertical and the other horizontal with respect to the lower mount.
When the intermediate mount is placed in the corresponding position 1% a low firing height, thus obtains. a normal type full-blast gun with limited aiming capability and the barrel is given the height direction and the lateral direction, in the known manner, by pivoting around the two axes last mentioned.
The third pivot axis which is located in the longitudinal direction of the lookout can be used, when the part is inclined, to compensate for the inclination of the flange journals. 362585
To combat aerial targets, the intermediate carriage is raised by making it pivot upwards in the lower carriage so that the axis of rotation of the barrel, which has hitherto been horizontal in the direction of the air. The carriage is either substantially or completely vertical. This gives the barrel an unlimited possibility of aiming in space. High aiming then takes place preferably in the same way as for a low firing height, bar the pivoting around. the axis of the flange journals;
the other two pointing axes can be used at will for pointing in direction. the attached drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention applied to a part comprising an intermediate mount in the form of a pivot which is folded over the lower mount and a barrel pivots freely around its pointing axes.
In this drawing; Fig. 1 is a side view of the part in the firing position, the pivot being lowered; Fig. 2 a similar view, the pivot being raised;

The pivot b is pivotally mounted in a vertical plane around a horizontal bolt e in the tail of the lower mount a, which tail ends in a seat and which rests on the ground. At its anterior end, this pivot carries the head e which can pivot freely by 360 c around the axis d. When the pivot b is folded down (fig. 1) its head e rests on the axle f of the wheels, which prevents it from pivoting around the axis d which is horizontal and which lies in the longitudinal direction of the wheel. lookout. To prevent any untimely pivoting of the pivot b upwards, the head e can also be secured to the axle f by means of any coupling (not shown).
In a particular embodiment, the mounting of the folded pivot on the axle and the coupling can also be such that the possibility of pivoting of the head e of the pivot around the axis d is retained when the pivot is folded down and that this axis serves as a horizontal axis to compensate for an inclination of the flange journals.
The fork b of the flange journals can pivot freely by 560 o in the head e of the pivot about the axis g perpendicular to the axis d of the pivot. This forkh carries the bearings for lestourillons of horizontal flanges i of the cradle k in which the tube 1 of the part is guided. 362585
To pull hard at fast moving goals, especially overhead goals, the pivot b is moved away from the axle f and is permanently coupled with the lower carriage a by means of the spacer m in the raised position. The axis of the pivot is then substantially vertical; the pivot axis g de-la, fork h of the flange journals is horizontal and the tube 1, which rotates freely around three pointing axes, can be quickly and easily directed to any point in space .
You can choose at will those of the three pointing axes which work in rotation during the pursuit of the goal. You can always choose the axes, or, depending on the case,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
always the axes directly, which make it possible to bring the tube as quickly and as easily as possible to the desired position and to have the lowest resistance to movement to overcome.
The handle n is used to put the tube 1 in position and to hold it; it is also possible to use two juxtaposed handles.
The handle n is pivotally mounted on the cradle k of the tube about an axis o parallel to the axis i of the flange journals, so that the handle can be given, also in all positions of the tube , even for great heights, around the axis i of the flange journals, a position allowing it to be gripped conveniently (fig. 2). The trigger, not shown, is pivotally mounted on the cradle, like the handle n to which it is connected by appropriate members so as to follow its adjustment movements and to be always within reach of the shooter who embraces the handle The trigger can be mounted, for example, in the handle itself, as is usual for weapons with the handle fixed to the frame.
The connection with the striker in the cylinder head of the tube then takes place preferably by means of a bowden.
The possibility of pivoting the fork h of the flange journals by 360 around the axis g (a pivot of 180 on one side only is also sufficient) serves to fold the tube around this axis, for the road position, until its mouth is above the carriage when the pivot h is folded down (fig. 4). This advantageously reduces the length of the part for transport.
When the tube @ pivots around the axis g, the pivot being raised again, during firing, around the axis d of the pivot, a torque occurs which increases with the lateral pivoting of the tube around the axis g and which reaches, when the pivoting exceeds about 10 Q, a value such that it can no longer be supported by the hand of the pointer. This is why we use, in accordance
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
to the invention, a mooring constituted for example by a stop lever actuated by a spring and which, when the tube pivots about 10 around the axis g, automatically couples the head e of the pivot closes with the pivot b and transmits the torque to the lookout via this pivot. From then on, the tube can only pivot around the g and i axes.
The possibility of pivoting about the d-axis is removed, but is automatically re-established when the tube has been returned to a pivot of less than 10 around the g-axis.
In certain combat cases it is useful not to limit the possibility of the tube pivoting around the axis d of the pivot In this case it is necessary to disable the pivoting around the axis g. beyond 10 on each side, which can also be obtained by means of a stop device similar to that described above. In order to obtain at will one or the other of the two possibilities of aiming, these two systems of moorings can also be combined on a part and they are then put between them in reciprocal relation such as, when a system of mooring The mooring is engaged, the other is released automatically and vice versa.
In the exemplary embodiment described above, the tube rotates freely around its point age axes. It would naturally also be possible to insert between some of the parts of the mount which are movable relative to a. the other, or between each of them, aiming machines with automatic stop, if necessary with clutch-release, as well as to obtain different firing heights one could also connect the pivot b to the lower-sharpening by a pointing machine.
