 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  "Method and device for manufacturing cylinder lock parts"
The object of the present invention is a process which makes it possible to manufacture, in an exactly corresponding manner, by a casting operation, the main parts which adapt to one another of the so-called cylinder locks, namely the boot and the rotating locking cylinder fitting into this boot, without the usual mechanical machining of these two parts, with all the necessary cavities, in particular the necessary guide holes for the stop pins, as well as a device for setting implementation of this process.

   The solutions of this problem which have been proposed so far have not led to the goal because the metal molds used for the molding could not be sufficiently manufactured.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   extremely robust because of the high temperature of the brass used for this type of fabrication. In particular, detrimental deformations occurred in the core pins used for molding the holes for the stop pins, which made it practically impossible to achieve the precision required by these parts.

   The manufacture of similar parts of cylinder locks using readily fusible metal alloys, for example those composed of aluminum, zinc and copper, as used in part in the making of other parts complicated to be manufactured or complete machining by casting, without / subsequent cannot be considered for the sets of cylinder locks for the simple reason that the external appearance of the visible parts established using these metal alloys is unsightly because of the of their easy corrosion and that, moreover, they cannot resist the action of the polishing products usually used to keep them in a clean state.

   In order to make it possible, by eliminating these drawbacks, to manufacture the cylinder lock parts in question by having the cavities come completely from foundry, in accordance with the invention, the external parts of both the lock boot of the corresponding cylinder are manufactured. made of brass or other suitable metal, resistant, not rusting, and on the other hand the interior parts are made of very easily fusible metal alloys, composed mainly of aluminum and zinc, the latter parts being cast on the parts of brass previously finished and placed in the casting mold.

   The assembly of the molded body with the corresponding visible external brass parts is preferably ensured by the projections, if necessary cut out, provided on the latter and which are embedded in the mass of molten metal, these two parts being united. iron. and in a robust and durable way by the concomitant contraction effects,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   Fig. 14 is a vertical section taken on the line XIV-XIV of FIG. 12.

   The visible plate 2 forming a mask or func- tion and constituting the outer part of the box body 1 is established in the form of a relatively thin disc (for example circular) of brass or other suitable metal, having a circular hole 3 specific to receive the faceplate of the lock cylinder. On the inner side of this app arent plate, ¯ for example according to Figures 3 and 4, projections in the form of bars 4 are provided which are concentric with the air conference of the plate 2, which, as well as This is indicated by the assembly with the easily fusible metal body of the lock boot to be molded onto this plate.

   This can be done completely with a hot press or by a similar process in resistant brass which, apart from surface polishing, makes subsequent machining of the brass body unnecessary.

   Decorations, trademarks or other similar chars may be imprinted or engraved in the metal surface during this operation. As it is not possible to easily obtain, during the passage through the press, an intersection of the projections 4 serving for the assembly with the molded body, the end edges of these projections are then occasionally subjected to machining with a view to expand them. This can be done for example by applying a discharge punch 5 provided with an annular cutting edge, which, by forming a groove-shaped indentation 6 in their end surface, somewhat enlarges the width of the protrusions on the posterior edge. .

   To manufacture the box body of the cylinder lock, by application of the invention, for example in the usual preferred shape (with the outer front plate in the form of an eccentric disc in the hollow of the cylinder)

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 a suitable metal foundry mold is used, such as that shown in Figures 6 to 8. This mold is formed by the main body 6, which comprises a horizontal sliding guide for the two moving half-parts 7 and 8 and carries a cover plate 9, which closes the hollow chamber of the mold at the top, except for an inlet opening indicated in dotted lines.

   The half-pieces 9 and 8 meeting in the middle in the form of step-shaped joint surfaces contain, in their end surfaces, the hollow in half-parts which correspond to the box body 1 with its front plate, its fixing ears 10 and its guide bars 11, the separating joints between the two mold halves extending partly along the middle of the cylinder, partly on the other hand offset laterally above the threading ears. xation 10. The hollow chamber for the front plate is partly shaped in the bottom of the main body 6 and partly taken from the two half-pieces 7 and 8.

   The mold cavity is traversed vertically by the mandrel-core 12 fixedly pressed into the bottom of the main body and provided for the cavity of the cylinder, the upper end of this mandrel, engaging and fitting into a hole 13 in cover plate 1.

   To provide the guide holes for the stop pins, a row of core pins 14 is used, which are fixedly connected at their outer ends to a bar 15 in the manner of a rake and which, when the mold is closed in joining and corresponding guide holes, pass through one of the two half-pieces 8 and the mandrel-core 12, so that their free ends engage in the cavity formed in the opposite half-piece 7 for the spindle guide bar 11. On the underside of the cover plate are fixed two short core pins 16, which serve to mold the threaded holes provided in the two fixing ears 10.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

   For the implementation of the process, the disc 2 forming the side prepared in the mold previously opened according to FIG. 8 and rationally heated is introduced and placed in the cavity of the bottom surface of the main part 6, after which the mold is closed according to Fig. 6, Then the free hollow chamber of the mold is filled with a quantity, preferably measured, of easily fusible metal alloy and, preferably, the molten metal is injected into the mold.

  After the metal has hardened, the core pins 20 are first of all withdrawn from the mold chamber by retracting backwards from their bar 15, then the movable parts of the mold are separated from each other, according to figure 8. The finished molded part can then be removed from the mold with the front plate 2 joined to it.

   Two parallel demolding pins 18 are provided for this purpose, which movably pass through the bottom part of the main body 6 and which can be moved upwards by means of the cross member 17.

   As can be seen, the pin-cores will have molded opposite the inner mouth of the guide holes of the bar 11 a corresponding series of through holes 21, which are placed in the field swept by the rotation of the pins of stop and must therefore be properly closed in the internal wall of the cylinder, to avoid disturbances by inserting the cylinder pins into these holes. To facilitate the closing of these holes, there is provided along the entrance of the row of transverse holes of the mandrel 12, thereon a bar-shaped projection, through which the groove 22 is molded into the mandrel. inner wall of cylinder along the mentioned through holes 21.

   By pushing a strip of sheet metal 23 filling this groove between the box and the cylinder, the necessary closing of these through holes 21 can be easily achieved.

   With a view to applying the process to the manufacture of cy-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   closing liner 28, the corresponding visible front plate 24 is prepared either also with a hot press or also by cold machining, to take the form of a flat disc cut with a hole 27 conforming exactly to the profile of the key, this disc being provided on its reverse side with two projections 25, 25 in the form of sectors, preferably interconnected on the outside. The cylinder body 28 is itself cast with its continuous, contoured key slot, stop pin holes 29 and drive slot 30, as shown above, of readily fusible metal alloy, on this visible plate.

   The casting mold used for carrying out the process consists of a base plate 31, a central part 32 fixedly connected to this plate and a lifting plate 33. The pin-core rake used for molding the holes of the braces. The stopper is movably disposed in the central part so that the ends of these pin-cores projecting forward into its cylindrical mold cavity can be removed from the molded part after casting. The core bar
36 serving for molding the slot of the key is fixedly disposed in the wall of the central part 32 of the mold opposite the ends of the pin-cores. A cross bar 37 for molding the drive slot provided in the rear end of the closing cylinder is fixed to the bottom plate.

   The cavity for the introduction of the front plate 24 is on the underside of the. cover plate 33, which also has the inlet opening which relates laterally to the mold cavity.

   After the casting operation, during which the visible front plate 24 previously placed in the mold is joined to the molded body which forms, the latter is removed from the mold in a manner analogous to the box body, at by means of a decoiler 38, after removal of the top plate 33.
