<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Folding cabinet with tilting mechanism that can be locked in two positions so that it cannot tilt unduly.
The present invention relates to a binder with a tilting mechanism which can be locked in two positions so as not to be able to tilt unduly, so that the binder cannot leave its tilting position by itself under the load of its contents.
The characteristic of the invention consists in that the mechanism, of which the threading members are blocked, in the known manner, in a position in which they are not yet fully open, is also held in this position by a stop member. and can not be brought into the other two positions, blocked by the same member, when pressing on an operating push button provided on the stop member.
The organ blocking the mechanism in its extreme positions
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tilting can be established so that it also blocks the threading members in the position in which they are not completely open. In this way, a locking is obtained for the mechanism, which makes it impossible to release automatically in a tilting direction, but can be easily triggered by exerted pressure on the stop member.
Another characteristic of the invention lies in the fact that the member locking the mechanism in the extreme tilting positions and the threading members in the not yet fully open position is arranged on the tilting support part of the mechanism, while the Notches for the stopper are provided on the base plate of the mechanism or on the box of the file cabinet and are set so as to lock the mechanism, in a limited way, in the two extreme positions and also, in one direction of movement, in the stop position not fully open, while, in the other direction of movement, they release the mechanism, in the stop position, only when a push button has been lowered. located on the shut-off device,
the mechanism can then be tilted and opened.
This latter construction has the advantage that the triggering of the stop member by pressure of the finger is only necessary for the tilting of the mechanism from the obliquely upright position, blocking the threading members, to the vertical position. In the other tilting positions, when a back pressure exceeding the clamping pressure of the stop member is exerted on the mechanism, an automatic triggering of the snap-action occurs and, consequently, a tilting of the mechanism.
It is also possible, however, to trigger the mechanism in these tilting positions by lowering the stopper.
So that, when closing the mechanism, the focus point

The force of either transferred to the anterior end of the closing yoke, the base plate of the mechanism attached to the carton, or the carton itself, may be provided with an upward sliding surface for the caliper. closure, surface which, with a descending surface, forms a continuous arc when closing the carton.
In addition, a simple assembly of the closing yoke of the mechanism is created because this yoke is suspended in inflected parts of the threading yoke, which are covered by the support part of the mechanism.
Another novelty is to be seen in the fact that in the case of mechanisms having threading pins penetrating the threading tubes, the attachment of the threading tubes takes place simply by their hard friction engagement on the threads. ends of the stirrups and by the bending of the binding end, and the surface of the usual end bevel of these tubes is, to avoid sharp edges causing tearing of the sheets inserted in the binder, rounded on the outer edge and is curved towards the inside of the tube.
The accompanying drawing represents an example of execution of the object of the invention.

Fig. 9 shows, enlarged, the bevelled tip of the threading members offset from one another.
Fig.10 shows the attachment of the threading tubes in the case of threading members with parts sliding one inside the other.
Figs.ll and 12 show, on a larger scale, the constitution of the bevel of the threading tubes.
A base plate 1 fixed to the cardboard is suspended in a hinge 2, so as to be able to tilt, a support-piece 3 formed by a metal strip folded longitudinally and carrying threading members 4,5 in the form of arcs circle.
These threading members are, when they are offset from one another, formed of the ends of stirrups made of solid metal wire 6.7 several times bent, the point of which is placed between their center and their enveloping surface. If, on the other hand, the threading members are not offset from each other, but slide one inside the other, so that one of the pairs of threaders 4 must be made of tubes, these tubes are fixed by engagement. by rubbing hard on short ends of the wire yoke 6 and bending the place of connection (fig. 10), and it is appropriate, in this, that the two ends nested one in the other goes beyond the bending point B. ' The free ends of these threading tubes are bevelled,
the surface of the bevel is rounded at the outer edge and is curved towards the inside of the tube (figs. 11 and 12). Of the two wire brackets 6 and 7, one is riveted to the support piece 3 and the other is suspended
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
articulated in inflected parts 8, covered by the support piece, of the other bracket, the cross member 9 of which serves to oscillate the mechanism to bring it into the closed position.
In the case of the embodiment according to Figs. 6-8, in which the threading stirrups 6 and 7 consist of two plates connected to each other with articulation, one of which is, thus eliminating the part -support, directly articulated to the base plate 1, the locking of the mechanism in the extreme tilting positions and in the not fully open stop position of the threading members takes place by means of a stop member 10 undergoing the action of a spring, mounted on the back of the carton so as to be movable and provided with stop teeth 11 cut obliquely in one direction.
The lower stop tooth serves to block the mechanism in its prone closed position, while the upper stop tooth blocks the mechanism in the position in which it is obliquely straightened, and prevents the complete opening of the components. - spinners, the lower or upper tooth resting, in this, on the caliper plate 6. On the stop member 10 is provided an operating pusher which is mounted so as to be able to turn on the back of the carton and which, when lowered, removes the stopper from its active position, so that the mechanism can be tilted and opened freely.
The member 10 blocking the mechanism in its extreme tilting positions can serve, at the same time, to block the threading members 4, 5 in their position not yet fully open, as seen in fig.8. For this, the top stop tooth 11 pushes backwards by its front edge, in the stop position, the rear end of a stop member 13 mounted so as to be able to rotate on the plate. bracket 6 and undergoing the action of a spring, so that the stop member engages in a notch 14 provided in the -
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
closing clamp 7. If, by pressure exerted on the operating button 12, the stop device 10 is triggered, the stop device 13 releases the closing clamp 7, so that it can be tilted freely in both directions.
An operating pusher 15 may also be provided on the stop member 13 making it possible to actuate this member alone and independently.
The oblique shape of the stop teeth 11 results in that the mechanism brought into the obliquely or upright upright position can, when closing the carton, be automatically closed as a result of the guiding of the cover and the back of the carton and be tilted. in the supine and locked position.
In the embodiment of, after figs.1-5, the stop member 10 'serving to block the mechanism in the extreme tilting positions and in the stop position of the non-fully open threading members is constituted by a lever with two arms which is mounted so as to be able to turn on the arm of the support part 3, which carries the threading members 4, on a riveted pin 16.
The stop member is pressed by a pressure spring 17 against the edge 18 of the base plate 1 curved circularly around the hinge 2 as a center and in which notches 19, 19 'and 20 are provided in which - slides the stop member into the extreme tilting positions of the mechanism and into the intermediate position in which the threading members 4, 5 are blocked.
The notches 19 and 19 'for the extreme positions of the mechanism are formed by sliding surfaces descending obliquely, which oppose, to the stop member 10' which has entered it, only a retaining force such as that, for its release, it suffices to exert, on the mechanism or on the documents inserted therein, a back pressure exceeding the locking pressure.
Notch 20 for the stop position of the corn threading members -
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
carries, on the contrary, a sliding surface rising on one side and ending in a stop, which surface only opposes the stop member 10 ', in one direction of movement, to the holding force already mentioned , but operates in the other direction of movement, by applying the stop member against the stop, a stable and controlled locking of the mechanism. The elimination of this controlled position and, consequently, the complete opening of the mechanism can only take place by lowering an operating push-button 12 'provided on the stop member 10', movement by which the stopper is lifted out of notch 20.
The operating pusher 12 'has, for this purpose, two pressure surfaces for the finger 21 and 21' arranged at some distance one above the other, the lower one of which is usefully wider and which can be used at will depending on whether the box is more or less filled with documents.
So that, when closing the mechanism taking place as a result of closing the cover of the file cabinet, the point of attack of the force is transferred to the anterior end of the closing bracket 7, so that it The result is a long lever arm allowing easier lifting of the closing stirrup loaded with documents, it can be provided, on the back of the cardboard or on the base plate 1 attached to this back, a rising sliding surface 22 which can also, for example, be formed in the base plate itself, because this plate rises in an arc towards the outer edge over its entire width or only in the region of the ends of the - sort of closure, or has corresponding eminences.
So that the point of attack of the force remains maintained at the front end of the closing bracket 7 until the mechanism is fully closed, a surface is provided on the front cover of the file cabinet. sliding slide 23 which, when closing the carton, forms a continuous arc of a circle with the sliding surface 22. It is not necessary
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
in this', to place the sliding surface 23 permanently on the cover of the binder; it can also be articulated to the sliding surface 22 so as to be able to be folded down and to be pressed by a spring against the cover of the binder in all the positions thereof.
