<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Device for winding thread from one spool to another spool"
If it is desired to wind a wire from one spool onto another spool, in most cases one of the spools, for example the take-up spool, is operated at a uniform speed.
If it is desired to positively actuate the unwinding spool, care must be taken that the thread tension remains constant, otherwise there is a risk that the thread will break.
In the device which is the subject of the invention, in which the unwinding reel is actuated @

positively, the feed speed is regulated by the difference between the wound length and the unwound length of the wire per unit time. This device makes it possible to obtain that the tension of the thread, apart from small variations, always remains constant, so that the risk of the breaking of the thread is minimized.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the wire is guided on a roller fixed to a lever whose movement regulates the speed of the magazine reel.
The lever can cooperate with a servo motor which is coupled with a friction roller transmitting movement between two friction plates.
The invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows, by way of example, a particular embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view, partially in section, of the winding device, while FIG. 2 is a plan view.
--- In Fig. 1, 10 designates the winding spool, on which the wire of an unwinding spool
11 is rolled up. The wire 12 is guided on a roller 13 fixed to a rod 14, the position of which in space is determined by the difference between the wound length and the unwound length of the wire per unit of time. A variation in the length of the take-off wire moves the pivoting lever 16 at 17, which produces the movement of another pivoting lever 18 at 19. The lever 18 is coupled to a servo motor 21 by the. intermediate of a rod 20. This servomotor comprises a cylinder 22 in which a piston 23 plays. In this piston plays its @

turn a drawer 24.
The engine runs on pressurized oil, supplied through cover 25 of the cylinder and entering through openings 26 in the cylinder.
22 and in the annular space 27 between the slide and the piston. When the spool 24 is pushed to the right by the lever 20, the opening 28 ceases to be closed by the flange of the spool, so that oil enters the channel 30 and consequently into 1. space 31, which produces an overpressure therein and a movement of the piston 23 to the right, until the flange of the drawer 24 closes the opening 28. When the drawer 24 is moved to the left, it is closed. produces an overpressure in the space 32 and a movement of the piston 23 to the left.
Through a rod 33, the piston is connected to a friction roller 34 moving between the friction plate 35, driven at constant speed, and the plate 36 wedged on the spool shaft. unfolding
The operation of the device is as follows: The winding reel 10 is operated at constant speed. The more layers there are on this spool, the more the diameter of these layers increases and the more the speed at which the wire is fed must be increased. On the other hand, the diameter of the layers of the unwinding reel decreases, so that the speed at which the wire is unwound gradually decreases if the control speed of this reel is constant, which results in the length of the wire being kept constant. wire decreases between the two coils.
However, this length can be kept constant by increasing the control speed of the unwinding reel. The wire 12 is guided on the roller 13. When the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
unwinding spool rotates too slowly, the roller 13 is driven down despite the antagonistic action of the spring 15, which causes the rod 20, as well as the rod 33 to move to the left by means of the servomotor. This produces the displacement of the friction roller on the one hand towards the circumference of the plate 35 and on the other hand towards the center of the plate 36, so that the speed of revolution of the axis 40 of the unwinding spool 11 is increased considerably and the tension of wire 12 is reduced.
Since the servo motor is extremely sensitive, the tension of wire 12, apart from slight variations, will remain nearly constant, so that wire breakage will seldom occur, to put it mildly. never.
