 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  MACHINE FOR CAPSULATING BOTTLES.

   The present invention relates to a bottle capping machine, by means of which tin foil caps or other soft metal caps can be applied to the necks of bottles when they have been capped.

   The capping takes place very quickly, as the machine pushes each bottle between the roll-chucks which apply the cap. After the capping is completed, the bottle is automatically pushed in a vertical direction, whereby, replacing the bottle with its cap on, the next bottle to be capped immediately arrives without the machine ceasing to operate.

    The invention resides in special devices thanks to The invention resides in special devices thanks to which it is possible to practice, with the same capping machine, the application of the caps on bottles of various sizes.

 its dimensions and necks of different diameters.

   The bottle carriers are, in accordance with the invention designed so that two flanges which retain the bottle are constructed with elastic action, which follows that each bottle must be placed automatically from below in the middle of the bottle. element intended for capping. As the bottle holders are movable, they can be used for bottles of varying diameter within certain limits. The vertical axis of the bottle holder is fitted with a flat screw thread which allows it to be given any position in height direction so that a single bottle holder can be used for bottles of variable height (within certain limits of course).

   The quantitative yield of the. The machine is regulated, in accordance with the invention, by a casing with gears allowing, for example, that the machine can operate at a rate of three rotational speeds depending on the efficiency desired from it.

   The machine is controlled by a completely enclosed motor, thus avoiding any contact with any spilled liquid. The movement is transmitted by the motor by means of a clutch which can be actuated by the hand or the foot and which allows the operation of the electric motor in idle mode,
The object of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings by way of example, namely:
Fig. 1 gives the section of the whole machine.,
Fig. 2 gives the section of one of the 6 capping elements which pull the caps off the top of the bottles.

   Fig. 3 shows a side view of the bottle holder.

   Fig. 4 represents a view from above of this bottle holder,
The main support of the machine is the vertical hollow upright 1 in which the second upright 2 is located.

   Above the upright 1 is fixed the plate 3 (see fig.l) and below is fixed the nozzle 4. The latter is equipped with sliding parts 5 which can move in a vertical direction. These parts

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 sliding doors 5 end at the top at the bottle holder B (figl. and 3). They are arranged in such a way that the bottle can easily be placed in this bottle holder B and be easily removed therefrom; however, as long as the bottle is between the flanges and the bottle holder B it remains firmly held and the whole of this bottle holder B, with the sliding part 5 and the plate 4 constitutes an essential part. - the absolutely rigid of the machine.

   The upper face of the nozzle 4 is specially constructed in the shape of a conch to collect the liquid coming from any bottle which would possibly burst from an accidental cause. In the lower part of the sliding part 5 is the horizontal axis 7 with the rollers 8 rotating around this axis. The axis 7 slides, following the movement of the sliding part 5, in a vertical slot of the fitting 4.

   The wheel 8 rolls on the rail 9 which forms an endless track and therefore a closed circuit (rolling track) around the middle of the vertical main axis of the machine. his running track is constructed in such a way as to form undulations from top to bottom which forces the roller 8, during its journey on the rail 9, to go up and down alternately, this also causes the sliding part 5 to rise with the bottle holder B and its bottle and causes the bottle to be introduced into the capping element A.

   When the roller 8 then arrives at the descending part of the rolling track 9 it descends there at the same time as the sliding part due to the weight

 of the bottle holder B itself /
The universal bottle holder 6 consists of the following parts:
The plate 10 is surmounted by a rubber plate 11 which is fixed thereto by the screws 12. The rubber plate serves as a base for the bottles so that the latter rest on an elastic seat. The plate 10 is crossed vertically by two bolts 13 tightened by nuts 14. On the bolts 13 are folded two opposite and similar arms 25 with bushings 15.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   The other ends of these arms enter the sockets 16 which hold the brass flasks or twins by means of the screws 17. In these brass flanges 18 pass three other screws 19 around which are passed three rubber sheaths. 20 and thus a secure and elastic retention of the bottle is obtained. As the center of the screws 17 is a little advanced towards the central axis (see fig. 4), the bottle can easily be removed from the two flanges while these sheet metal binoculars swing outwards.

   The bushes (sheaths) 15 are held at their upper part by the discs 21 and 22 which are themselves held together by the nut 23. The toothing between the discs 21 and 22 is provided for the purpose of facilitating the adjustment of the force of the action of the springs 24. The two similar springs 24 serve to press the arms 25 towards each other and to keep the bottle firm. The disc 22 has a square opening in which to place the square part of the ooulon 13. By turning the disc 21 the spring 24 can be stretched or relaxed. The bushes 15 each have at their lower part an appendage 26; appendages press against the sleeve. 'flat appendage 27 of the tray and have the function of opposing the excessive approach of the two arms.

   The two bolts 13 can be moved closer or further apart according to the diameter of the bottles in question. This maneuver is carried out by means of the bolt 28 which is turned at its square ends and consequently causes a displacement thanks to which the, screw pitch of this bolt 28 occupies a four-sided appendage 29 of the bolt dres vertically 13, One of the bolts four-sided 29 has a right-hand thread, while the other has a left-hand thread.

  Likewise, the bolt 28 has for one half a thread on the right and for the other half a thread on the left. A graduated scale on appendix 27 near the stop 26 of the sleeve 15 shows how close the straight bolts 13 must be or. Away from each other depending on the diameter of the bottle to be treated. . When turning and tightening nut 54 strongly, we fix

 the right bolt 13 and any movement of the bolt 28 is made impossible. The entire plate 10 with the parts described above is at the end of the vertical lead screw axis 30 which is provided with a flat thread, secured by the final thread and nut 31.

   The longitudinal opening 32 in the plate 10 serves to definitively give the well-centered position to the sealing unit A with respect to the bottle holder B.

   In order to be able to use the machine for bottles of different heights, the vertical axis 30 plus or mouns is unscrewed from the sliding part 5. a lock nut 33 making it possible to maintain the vertical axis each time in any acquired position.

   The electric motor 34 is installed in a rising casing 35 and it actuates the belt pulley 36 which by means of a clutch 37 sets in motion the shaft of the meshing wheels 38.

  On the shaft 38 are fixed three toothed wheels 39.40 and 41, In the common gear housing 42 is located parallel to the shaft 43 on which is removably placed a toothed wheel 44 provided with three toothed rings of different diameters. .

  By the appropriate mounting of the toothed wheel 44 with respect to the three toothed wheels 39,40,41, (which is done by means of the screw 45), three different numbers of revolutions can be obtained for the speed of the movement of the machine. The shaft 43, actuates by means of conical gears or similar arrangements, the worm 46 which sets the support 1 in motion, the latter being provided with a worm gear. The rotary movement of the upright 1 brings with it the machine head C which is fixed to the plate 3 (see fig.2). In this machine head C are fixed a number of capping elements. and this so that each element is kept exactly above the median axis of the corresponding bottle holder B, both during rest periods and during the work of the machine.

   The elements are constructed in such a way that the lower parts lend themselves easily to unscrewing and replacing them with others without requiring disassembly of the machine. Through the upright

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 hollow 2 reigns the drive shaft 6 which receives its movement from the shaft 43 by means of the bevel gears 48 and 49 and, by the toothed wheels 50 and 51, transmits it to the capping elements A individually. In addition to the movement of the machine head C around the main axis of the machine, the capping elements A are individually driven by a second rotational movement each around its own axis.

   The capping element or mandrel A which is to apply the cap to the bottle neck consists of the following parts: The main part is a hollow cylinder 52 provided with an internal thread 53. A l ' Inside the cre @ x cylinder 52 is screwed a second hollow cylinder 54. The cylinder 52 rotates in the ball bearings 55. The hollow cylinder 54 has an overhanging nut 56 by means of which the disc 57 is fixed. disc 57 is notched with six notches in which are placed the ends of the vertical axes 58, At the lower part of the axes 58 are placed. so as to be able to turn the wrapping mandrel rollers 59, the role of which is to roll the capsile in a way onto the neck of the bottle.

   The vertical axes 58 are held together by means of spiral spring rings 60 (or rubber rings) which constantly press the capping rollers 59 along the central axis of the bottle. The lower hollow cylinder 54 ends in the form of a plate 61 to which the lower plate 63 is screwed by means of the spacer bolts 62. This lower plate 63 is pierced with an opening through which the bottle is taken out when its neck is closed. coated with the capsule.

   Inside the hollow cylinder 54 there is a kind of buffer 64 which is screwed to the square handle 65. This handle 65 is drawn through an opening in the disc 66 which is itself screwed to the machine head C. This disc 66 holds the buffer 64 by means of the handle 65 and preserves it from being driven by the rotating movements of the hollow cylinder heads 52 and 54. The buffer 64 is pressed onto the head of the bottle by the spring 67 which else part rests on the ball bearing 68.

   At this buffer 64 is in or-

 be fixed the ball bearing 69 which is applied from the inside to the hollow cylinder 540
The entire capping process takes place as follows:
The cap is placed, without being fixed, on the neck of the bottle, the latter then being placed in the bottle holder B when the latter is at the lowest part of the rolling track 9. The bottle and the bottle holder B then move along the rolling track 9 around the axis of the machine while climbing on this rolling track9. When the neck of the bottle is driven from the bottom to the top by the opening made in the disc 63, it meets the buffer 64 and causes it to rise, overcoming the pressure of the spiral spring 67.

   As the bottle continues to rise, the capping core rollers 59 press the cap evenly against the neck of the bottle. Once this work is finished, the bottle is again drawn downwards by the inclination of the rolling track 9 until it finally arrives at the starting point of the operations. cap is already pulled on the neck of the bottle, it can be quickly removed from bottle holder B to be replaced immediately with the next bottle which is held ready for this purpose. The machine must therefore not be stopped.

   As the machine comprises a certain number (for example 6 pieces) of bottle holders B with the capping elements A which relate to them, the capping of a bottle takes place constantly while the others are subjected to the movement of training with ascent and descent on the track.
