<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"IMPROVEMENTS TO THREADING MACHINES WITH TANGENT COMBS"
In conventional threading machines with tangent combs, the comb holders are mounted to tilt on drive pivots fixed to a head at the end of the machine shaft and distributed around the axis of this shaft.
These comb holders are tilted simultaneously at the end of the travel of the thread then the stop of a first arm of the bolt carrier carriage of the machine against the adjustable cleat of a rod whose movement allows the sudden relaxation of a spring. brought under tension by a second arm of said carriage. A second rod subjected to the relaxation of this spring acts on a lever which controls a tilting mechanism of the comb holders, in such a way that the combs disengage from the net and move away from the bolt to allow the release of the latter. this.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
When the bolt-holder carriage is then brought back to its starting position, the stop of the first arm against a second adjustable cleat provided on the same rod as the first latch, acts to move this rod in the opposite direction, and cause the reverse tilting of the comb holders, ie the return of the combs to their working position.
Until now, the machines constructed as has just been said did not make it possible to practically adjust the diameter of the thread during operation, that is to say without stopping the machine.
In addition, said machines had a complicated comb-holder head, which had holes through which lubricant, chips and metal particles could enter. This introduction fouled the comb maneuvering mechanism and could cause jamming between the face of this head and the comb holders.
Such a situation caused errors and irregularities in the dimensions of the threads produced.
It is, however, desirable in all respects to be able to carry out the adjustment of the thread diameter absolutely precisely, and at all times during the operation of the machine, first with a view to increasing the output, then for 'correct execution of special threads in several passes, and finally to ensure greater precision in the work.
It is also important that the mechanism of the comb holder head is perfectly sheltered.
The present invention makes it possible to satisfy all these desiderata by adapting to existing machines with tangent combs particularly simple devices with reliable operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
For the aforementioned purposes, the invention provides that the mechanism of the comb holder head will be constituted, controlled and housed as indicated below.
In order for the improvements according to the invention to be better understood, an exemplary embodiment will be described below with reference to the appended schematic drawings, in which
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a threading machine with tangent combs, with a special comb holder head and device for controlling the mechanism for adjusting the diameter of the thread by operating the comb holders during operation.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the head provided with the comb holders.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view and partial longitudinal section of the aforementioned comb holder head, the comb holders being removed.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
In these Figures, the threading machine is shown very briefly, and only in the part comprising the tilting mechanism of the comb holders, and the devices which allow this mechanism to be automatically controlled, at the end of the carriage travel. carrying the workpiece and manually at all times of the thread stroke.
The machine shaft ends with a cylindrical head a, the front face of which twists the pivots on which the comb holders c are tiltably mounted. The head has a collar a2 and carries behind the latter a sleeve d sliding longitudinally by guiding on keys.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
training or similar means. A bush 1 which has an annular front face added f and thus forms a cap for this head a is rotatably mounted on the sleeve d, on the collar at and on the front end a1 of said head with which it comes. flush to form a plate in two concentric pieces.
The sliding sleeve d has two helical grooves g in each of which is housed a slide b rotating on a pivot i integral with the sleeve-cap f whose front face f carries pivots j on which slides are mounted for rotation. , housed in slides 1 of the comb holders c.
The longitudinal movements of the sleeve d, driven in rotation by the head a, thus cause angular movements of the sleeve! with respect to said sleeve, and consequently of part f with respect to part a1, due to the movement of the slides h in the helical grooves g.
These angular displacements of the face 1 with respect to the face a1 cause the comb holders c to tilt. around the pivots b, in one direction or the other, that is to say, forcing the combs c2 to move towards or away from the workpiece m.
The two well-fitting concentric pieces a1 and f1 together form a plate with a smooth surface and a sufficiently tight seal. Further, the provision of the collar a prevents penetration of thread lubricant and metal particles between the friction surfaces of the center head a of the sliding sleeve and the cap sleeve f.
The control of the longitudinal movements of the sleeve @
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
sliding slide driven in rotation by the head a is carried out using the following devices:
A main lever n oscillating at its upper end around a pivot, Q, embraces the grooved end 1 of the sleeve d and engages in said groove by two pivots it with roller u1.
Towards its lower end, the lever n is articulated by a pivot n1 to a connecting rod p connected by a pivot q to the arm of a doorbell lever q, the other arm of which is articulated to a rod r. This rod is provided with adjustable cleats r1, r2, against which abuts an arm a of the carriage .1. carrying the workpiece. This stop occurs at the end of the threading stroke and when the carriage returns to its starting position.
The lower end of the lever n is connected by a pivot n2 to a rod, on which acts, by means of a spring 5, an arm s of the carriage t. The said spring 5 in-
1 turning this rod is compressed during the threading stroke.
The articulation of the connecting rod p with the corresponding arm of the bell lever q forms a toggle. The extension p1 of this connecting rod abuts against the bottom q2 of the yoke of this arm to limit the amplitude of the movement of the knee lever
When the carriage .1. is returned to its starting position, it abuts against the latch r2 of the rod r which pulls on the doorbell lever q; the arm of this lever and the connecting rod p which is articulated to it are thus brought in prolongation of one another, so as to exceed the alignment position very slightly, so that the projecting end pde the connecting rod p then abuts against the bottom q2 of the yoke of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
lever arm q to stop the movement of the knee switch.
In this position, said arm and said connecting rod act together in the manner of a body convertible top compass, which allows the lever n to rest on the shaft q of the bell lever q, c 'that is to say on the frame of the machine
When the carriage 1 then performs the threading stroke, its arm s1 compresses the spring 5 without being able to drive the rod or the lever n, since the latter rests on the locked toggle p-q.
At the end of the threading stroke, the arm% of the carriage comes up against the stopper r. and thus acts by the rod r to relatively move the lever q and the connecting rod p, which has the effect of abruptly breaking the support of the lever n by releasing the toggle pq and allowing the abrupt relaxation of the spring 5 previously loaded . The rod is then pushed back by the said / spring and displaced, this abruptly the lever .il which, in turn, causes the sliding of the sleeve d and the instantaneous tilting of the comb holders c, that is to say the Suddenly moving the combs away from the part to be threaded.
In order to vary the degree of tilting of the comb holders g and of the combs c2 towards the piece to be threaded m, that is to say with a view to adjusting the diameter of the thread while the machine is running, the means provided according to the invention consists in moving, in the desired direction, the pivot Q of the lever n.
For this purpose, the pivot is made integral with a sliding nut W moving along a screw shaft x journaling at its ends in bearings y1, y2 provided in the frame y of the machine, the maneuver of this screw shaft being controlled using a handwheel x1.
The slider nut carries an index w1 which moves forward
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
an appropriate graduation y3 traced on a plate adanted to the frame of the machine and indicating the different thread diameters which correspond to the positions given to the nut.
