Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

    "Method for making Z-bar sheet pile walls".

   As is known, Z-shaped sheet piles have the drawback either of separating during the driving, or, when the anointing is sufficient, to withstand the & ollicitations during the driving, but rolled with little tolerance to avoid the separation. , to be able to get together with great difficulty with the disadvantage that the neighboring sheet piles are dragged during the driving.
The object of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks, while at the same time facilitating in a simple and surprising manner the driving of the walls of rolled Z-piles with a very reduced rolling tolerance, without driving the neighboring sheet piles and without having to use special profiles between identical profiles.

   The new process consists in that the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 Z-rolled sheet piles with a small rolling tolerance are nested one inside the other in pairs, this operation preferably being carried out at the rolling mill itself, given the considerable forces it requires.

   The order of magnitude of the rolling tolerances is determined by the considerations that the sheet piles must still be able to fit into each other, albeit with considerable force, and that, on the other hand, the joint must still be
 EMI2.1
 Raw. 0 strong enough to prevent joints popping during threshing. The solidity of this bond can be, for example, determined by the condition that these bonds must be as strong as they could be obtained by a pressure directed in the plane essentially perpendicular to the axis of the wall and to the parts of it. joints or by welding.

   The joint of the Z-shaped irons, firmly connected in this manner and in particular, its part designated as the "claw", will be sufficiently opened by an application of external forces so that the part of the joint designated as the "bead" of the trough next can be more easily introduced into the part of the anointed with the enlarged claw.

  This introduction takes place, of course, only during threshing on the site. The enlargement of the claw can, for example, be achieved by passing a mandrel through the finished claw. If we want to avoid the cold treatment of the claw, we can have at the outlet of the last groove of the rolling mill, a kind of chisel, which widens the claw of the seal still heated red.

   This enlargement can moreover be carried out in any suitable manner.

   The accompanying drawing shows one embodiment of the invention:
Fig. 1 schematically shows a plan view of a Z-shaped sheet pile wall, the anointed ones rolled with a very small tolerance and, therefore, connected together in a manner

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 excessively firm, are represented by full circles a, while the joints b, interlocking with greater clearance, are represented by circumferences bo
Fig. 2 shows, on an enlarged scale, part of the sheet pile wall of FIG. 1 and in particular the part delimited by the circumference in FIG. 1. we recognize that the bead c is tightly embraced by the claw d.

   It should be noted that it is not absolutely necessary to have any clearance in Arabic and that it is sufficient, as is inevitable during rolling, that the two parts of the joint, seen in the longitudinal direction , are represented slightly wavy. The protrusions and the unevenness of the two parts of the anointed joint being in this case naturally different, these parts necessarily adhere very strongly when they are rolled with reduced tolerances, which naturally necessitates the use of considerable force to interlock the sheet piles.

   The bead c and the claw f receive during the laniinage, the same dimensions as the joint parts. ± etd, in proportion to the opening or widening of the claw f, operated substantially in the direction of the arrow and determined by the convenient.

   The interlocking of the sheet piles, which takes place during driving, is facilitated in an extraordinary way.

   This driving is carried out in such a way that first the pair of sheet piles I and then II, III and IV, etc. will be driven.

  It goes without saying that the claw f should not be widened too much so as to allow disjunction, but however, it should be sufficiently so that the previously driven sheet piles are not dragged.

   A further improvement consists in that the anointed ones which could be subjected to the tensile effects in the ready sheet pile walls, are assembled without any play. This possibility is shown in fig. 3, in which a wall of palplanohes g, formed of Z bars, of known construction, serves as

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 quay wall, the hatched part representing the earth.

   The Z-shaped irons are tightly fitted in h in pairs, before beating, so as to be connected together. The directions in which the irons tend to bend are indicated.
 EMI4.1
 are sweated at the places of the irons i and k and the irons bend these - following the 8 f? echeu perpendicularly to these directions, according to sheets 1. We understand the traction, when the joints m will work without difficulty that the joints will work) $ under pressure.

  The tensile forces in the h jiitts 1 tend to freeze the Z-bars, which will however be canceled out by their rigid connection obtained by the narrow interlocking. The compressive forces acting on the joints m will, on the other hand, not be dangerous. The forces acting on the wall to be constructed in sheet metal Z bars, are not difficult to determine, given that in most cases , the loads which will act on the wall, are known.
