<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for measuring the length of the fabrics leaving the looms.
Patent application filed in Germany on August 31, 1929. -
The invention relates to a device for measuring the length of fabrics produced on looms, and comprising a measuring roller, which, driven by the delivered fabric, transmits this movement to a counter.
According to the invention, the measuring device consists of an axis arranged parallel to the axis of the measuring roller and on which a roller counter of the generally known type is fitted, the two axes being supported by a common element. As a result, the construction of the device is extremely compact, so that it can be adapted to any loom.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, the object of the present invention.
Fig.l shows the measuring device in section along the line x - x of fig.2.

Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section on the line z - z of Fig.;.
Fig. 4 shows the inner side of the cover positioned above the measuring roller.
Fig. 5 shows a templet connected to the measuring device, the hinged cover being shown only in dotted lines.
The measuring roller a, mounted mobile on the fixed axis b, is fitted on one side with a toothed wheel c secured to this roller, and on the other side with a tight ring d, which is bristling with teeth or needles.
The outer circumference of the ring d approximately coincides with the surface of the casing of the roll a.
The counter is composed of several rollers e, which are provided with numbers and arranged on a common axis f. The movement of the roller a to the first of the rollers ± is transmitted by means of the spur wheel c and the intermediate wheels ± and h. These are arranged fixed on a tree.! supported in the. meter box. The measuring roll is enclosed in an envelope constructed in two sections, one of which! is attached to the box.:, while the other n takes the form of a hinged lid. Between the two sections k and n, there are slits large enough to allow the passage of the tissue (fig. 2).
To ensure that the measuring roller a is safely pulled through the fabric. 2. coming out of the loom and to prevent any slipping of the fabric on this roller, '' an annular groove p is entai 1: '. e opposite the bristling ring d (fig. 4) in the guide cover n. The tips of the ring d penetrate slightly into this groove 2 so that the fabric is tightly pressed against the teeth.
The measuring device can be attached to any
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
appropriate place of the loom, preferably on the templet rod between the flap and the breastplate. To this end, an eye-shaped clip with set screw is applied to the box of the measuring device.
The edge of the fabric is passed between the cover n and the measuring roller a and engaged, during its advancement, with the points of the ring d, which forces the roller a to start in a rotational movement, a movement which is transmitted to the meter by means of the intermediate wheels c, g, h.
The circumference of the roller a is calculated so that the counter, at each revolution of the roller, indicates the measurement of this length. It is therefore possible to always check at the meter window the length of fabric produced by the loom. As the counter also allows reverse rotation, it is possible to run the fabric backwards if desired. In this case the dimension of the length corresponding to the reverse gear is automatically deducted from the already existing measurement figure.
According to fig. 5, the measuring apparatus is connected to a tem- plet t of generally known construction, the object of which is to stretch the tissue in the transverse direction; the templet is fixed on the elongated b axis.
The measuring roller may also be fitted with several rings bristling with teeth or needles d. The measuring device can be sealed (sealed). For this purpose, two loops are provided, one of which is on the box and the other on the hinged cover n.
