 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

     0' est dans le but de faire faire aux différents dispositifs, les mouvements latéraux nécessaires, pas à pas, que l'on a ménagé le coulisseau secondaire 12 actionné par came.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Fig.1, et qu'ils soient rapprochés étroitement côte à cô- te.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 hooked moth21a tightens against the free end of the arm 10. It is obvious that if a tuft is placed against said hooked end 21a, it will be. clamped against the arm.

   .Thanks to the presence of the spring 26, the device allows variations in the thickness of the tufts, as may occur as a result of the presence of knots or foreign matter; said spring will operate in such a way as to ensure firm gripping of the tuft, whatever its thickness, and to guarantee against breaking of the finger or of the arm in the event of an obstructive material being introduced between the two organs.

   The movements of the finger relative to the arm are guided by a pin 35 which passes transversely inside the arm and passes through an arcuate slot 36 of the fingertip
The sleeve 30 receives the movements necessary for the control of the circular lever 22, of a cam mechanism (not shown in the drawings), by means of an oscil- laut shaft 37 which is mounted on journals. in each upright 17, and which is provided with a crank 38 which by a connecting rod 39 is coupled with an arm 40 protruding from the sleeve 30.

   The connecting rod 39 is assembled as a universal joint at its two ends with the crank 38 and with the arm 40, respectively.

   In a trade to which the invention applies, there will be several slimming devices, each comprising two gripping arms and their associated members. Each device must be arranged to operate on a small width of the fabric or fabric being manufactured, and arrangements are made so that all devices !! which work in unison, move step by step laterally and tie successive tufts to successive pairs of chains, a new step taking place after each tuft has been tied in a good place.

     0 'is for the purpose of making the various devices, the necessary lateral movements, step by step, that we have provided the secondary slide 12 actuated by cam.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   The different cam mechanisms for controlling the various movements of the members included in the devices to introduce and bind the tufts, and associated with these devices, will all be actuated by one or more suitable rotary elements of the trade, and some cams can be interchangeable to allow the adjustment to be varied according to the needs of different fabrics.

   A loom equipped with devices according to the present invention can be used for weaving, inter alia, oriental rugs in which the pile is incorporated by knotting, Turkish-style rugs or Persian-style rugs; it can also be used to weave plain plush fabrics.

   The action of a single device, when it comes to introducing tufts into a Turkish carpet, is as follows:
It is assumed that the arms to be pinched are lowered to their forward position, as shown in solid lines in. Fig. 1, and that they are brought together closely side by side. It is further assumed that the chains with which the device cooperates are lowered (i.e. without fogue).

   First of all, the left hand chain (as seen by the worker standing in front of the chest P) is lifted, and the whole device is transported backwards by the slider 11, tilting downwards, in the footsteps of the. chain lifted.

   The two arms 10 are moved laterally to the left by their keys 20, and the left hand chain is lowered onto the corresponding arm and therefore crossed over it. The right hand chain is now lifted and the right hand arm 10 is moved laterally to the right by its key 20; this arm 10 thus crosses the lifted chain which is then lowered onto it. a new top rocker is now imprinted on both arms, the shaft 18 rotating, so that their pinch ends move away from the chains.

   When the arms move towards their highest position, the device is positively brought back by the slide 11, towards the posi-

 tion in which the fingers to be pinched are shown in dotted lines in fig. 1, so that the open fingers can finally embrace a tuft of T.

   Then, the sleeve 30 rotating the fingers close over the ends of the tuft and grip it. Under the action of the shaft 18, the arms now perform a downward rocking motion carrying the tuft between them and moving by degrees laterally together, so that the ends of the tuft are carried together under the tufts. chains when the arms reach their lowest position.

  Then the whole device is advanced by the slider 11., and the arms are in this way passed between the two chains at an inclination upwards., Thus tightening the tuft in the form of a knot, at the point of convergence of the fabric chains ( -polît which can be seen clearly in Fig. 1). Then the fingers open and let go. tuft in the. leaving embedded in the mat.

     When a Terse tuft is introduced, the lateral movements of the two arms are varied so that when these arms are lowered, one of them passes between the two chains, and the other next to them. ; and when the arms are brought forward to tighten the knot, the first mentioned arm passes these two chains to the other side, while the other arm passes between them.
