<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Heat regeneration coke oven.
The present invention relates to a heat regeneration coke oven of the type in which each side wall is formed by a series of vertical flues which alternately rise and fall.
In this type of furnace, it is known to have, under the sole of the carbonization chambers, regenerators in the form of a well, the upper part of which communicates directly with the lower part of a single flue of each of the two side walls of the furnace. the chamber which surmounts the envisaged regenerator.
When the carbonization chambers have a relatively large height, it is also known that it is advantageous to cause the staged combustion of the heating gas in the flues rising from the piers. To realize
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
this staged combustion, only part of the air necessary for the complete combustion of the heating gas is admitted at the base of the flues rising from the piers, the additional air necessary for complete combustion being introduced at mid -height or at different heights of the rising flues by vertical flues arranged in the header.
The object of the present invention is to allow this application of staged combustion to vertical flue furnaces alternately rising and falling without having to give the ducts bringing the secondary air into the flues a complicated shape intended to allow them to avoid partitions. separating the wells.
For this purpose, the furnace, object of the invention, is characterized in the main order in that, under the floor of each carbonization chamber, is arranged a row of regenerators in the form of a well, which are separated between them. from each other by partitions parallel to the axis of the battery and staggered with respect to the partitions separating the wells of the neighboring row from each other.
In practice, each well communicates through its upper part with a flue of each of the two piers of the chamber under which it is located, by a channel opening out at the base of this flue and by a second channel formed in the header and opening halfway up the considered flue. The rows of wells located under two consecutive sills are separated from each other by a wall located above the piers.
In order to achieve the constancy of the. length of the path of the gaseous particles through the furnace, one places in; each row of regenerators horizontal channels extending under the entire length thereof and communicating. as, on the one hand, with the lower part of each of the wells in the row and on the other hand by one of - '/ Their extremities

mited with one of the galleries evacuating the burnt gases to the chimney or distributing the air to the regenerator during the cooling period, in such a way that the air and the burnt gases circulate in these channels in parallel directions and likewise meaning.
The accompanying drawings show schematically by way of example two embodiments of a coke oven battery constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig, 1 is a vertical section through a side wall, an odd row of regenerators and the collector galleries, taken along the line I-I of Fig. 3.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through a side wall, an even row of regenerators and the collector galleries, taken along line 2-2 of figure 3.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken parallel to the axis of the battery on the line 3-3 of figure 1.
Fig. 4 is a norizontal section through the regenerators, taken along line 4-4 of figure 1.
Figs. 5 and 6 are two views similar to FIGS. 3 and 4 relating to another embodiment.
In Figures 1 to 4,1 denote a battery of coke ovens formed by chambers 3 and 2 'separated by feet 3 heated internally. Under the floor 4 of each chamber 2 and 2 'are arranged, in the direction thereof, rows of regenerators in the form of wells separated from each other by continuous walls 5 extending along the entire length of the piers. 3.
All the wells 6 of the rows of regenerators located under the floor of the chambers 2 communicate via their lower part with the channels 7 which are connected to the collecting gallery 8, while all the wells 9 of the rows of regenerators located under the floor of the chambers. chambers 2 'communicate by their lower part with the channels 10 which are connected with the collecting gallery II so as to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
achieve consistency in the length of the path of the gaseous particles in the oven.
The wells 6 are separated from each other by partitions 12 which are staggered (see FIG. 4) with respect to similar partitions 13 separating the wells 9 from each other.
The air intended for the combustion of the heating gas is heated by circulating vertically from bottom to top in the regenerators 6 at the base of which it is admitted by the channels 7. The upper part of each well 6 is in communication with the upright flues 14 of the side walls by the ducts 15 which admit the primary air there and by the ducts 16 which admit the additional air at mid-height around the flues 14-
The descending flues 17 evacuate the burnt gases to the regenerators 9 via the conduits 18 and 19 from where they are evacuated to the chimney by the caaaax 10 and the collecting gallery IL
When the direction of the circulation of fluids in the ovens is reversed, the air will be admitted into the flues 17, which will be rising, through the ducts 18 and 19,
after having warmed up circulating from bottom to top in the regenerators 9 and having crossed the collecting gallery 11 and the channels 10, while the fumes will be evacuated to the chimney by going down in the flues 14 of the piers the conduits 15 and 16, the regenerators 6 and circulated horizontally in the channels 7 and the collecting gallery 8.
By virtue of the staggered arrangement of the partitions (la-13) separating the wells, the admission of secondary air into the flues of the alternately rising and descending piers is obtained in a particularly simple manner.
As we will understand, if these partitions were not staggered, we would have to give the conduits
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
secondary air provided in the header and located in a vertical plane, a complicated shape so that they avoid the partitions separating the shafts.
The invention is obviously not limited to the details of the embodiment described and shown in Figures 1 to 4.
In the example shown, each well (6-9) is in communication with a flue of the two sides of the chamber under which it is located. One could, however, for example, construct wells as shown in Figures 1, 2, 5 and 6 so as to make each well communicate with a single flue of a single side wall. Figures 5 and 6 show that it suffices to make this furnace to add a vertical partition 20 established in the median plane of the furnace chamber.
Likewise, if we adopt this type of construction, we could double the number of flues located under the regenerators, so that each of these flues distributes the air or collects the fumes only. only one side wall instead of two.
