Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Method of lining rifle barrels,
The lining of the barrels is the operation which consists in uniting the locking hooks, the forearm hook and the two bands to the barrels. Up to now, these various parts are assembled to the guns by welding and in particular by brazing applied all along the parts which must be welded
As the fixing of the locking hook must be very strong as a result of the forces it supports, the fixing of the latter requires a strong solder which has a very high melting point.

   As the fusion of the various solders used for fixing is obtained by introducing the guns into a furnace, the high temperature necessary for the fusion of the solder of the hook causes deformation of the guns or weakening of the latter to which it is very difficult to remedy.

   In addition, during introduction into the furnace, the guns being held together by ligature, these guns run the risk of moving between them during the melting of the solder.

   These various drawbacks result mainly from the fact

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 that the assembly formed by the barrels and the pleats which must be assembled is brought to the high temperature necessary for the fusion of the strong solder of the hook
The invention provides for remedying these drawbacks by fixing the locking hooks to the barrels by adding molten metal to the place of the weld, for example by electric welding.

   The high temperature necessary for this weld is only felt around the place of the weld and therefore does not affect the rest of the guns in any way and therefore cannot cause deformation or weakening of these.

   To fix the other parts, in particular the bands and the tie-rod hook which are subjected to lower stresses, less resistant welds (soft welding) which are carried out at a lower temperature without risk of causing deformation or weakening of the cannons. In this case and in order to avoid the movement of the guns between them during the melting in the furnace, the invention provides for assembling the guns beforehand by means of two welding points resistant to high temperature, for example electric welding applied to the ends of the guns. these guns.

   The accompanying drawings show by way of non-limiting example various embodiments of the invention. This extends to the various original features contained in the provisions represented.

   The fig.l is a section made between two guns assembled according to the invention.

   Fig.2 is a section on the plane A-A of fig.l.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Fig.3 is a section along the plane B-B of fig, l.

   Fig.4 relates to the fixing of the so-called "half-block" hooks.

   The lining operation according to the invention consists in assembling the barrels together by two points carried out in particular by electric welding on the one hand at point 2 and on the other hand at the other end of the barrel and in a similar manner. The weld 2 can optionally be extended all along the hook. Then welded on the barrels thus joined together the hook ae locking 3; this fixing is carried out by adding metal pax, for example by electric welding at locations 3a and 3b and all along this locking hook.

   The strips 4 and 5 can then be fixed, for example by soft brazing which is melted in an oven. The same is true of hook 6.

   Of course, according to the invention, it is also possible to assemble these bands and the tie hook by another suitable welding, for example by electric welding.

   This process also applies in the case of assembling so-called “half-block” barrels. In this case, the barrels are joined by welding carried out at 7 and 8 (see fig. 4).

   The method according to the invention also applies to the case of fixing ae locking hooks and forearm on a single barrel.

   According to the invention, electric welding can be replaced by any other method of welding, for example torch welding in which molten metal is added to the place of the weld.

   The process according to the invention is also suitable for
