<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
trique.

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FIG. 6 shows a method of construction of a movable clamp used for fixing the hairspring.
The apparatus according to the invention serves, as we have just said, to compare the oscillations of balances of very large dimensions and of great weight and more particularly of circular balances with electric maintenance. Referring to the drawings, we see in Figure 2, at 1, the base of the apparatus in which is placed, at 8, the standard apparatus maintained electrically in a continuous manner, for example at 1. 'using an electromagnet 13.
This standard apparatus 8 drives, by means of a toothed wheel 22 (FIG. 5) fixed on a shaft 9 @. Another toothed wheel 21 in engagement with a toothed wheel 21 a fixed on a hollow shaft 19 mounted in stages 31-31a. On the same shaft 19 is wedged a dial 17. Consequently, the oscillations of the standard device 8 are transmitted to the dial.
17.
The balance 10, the oscillations of which must be compared with the oscillations of the standard apparatus 8, is placed, as can be seen in FIG. 2, on the table 1 and is held between a pivot 33, provided in this table, and a upper pivot carried by an adjustable spindle 11.
The movement of the balance to be compared is maintained in any appropriate way. In the example shown, the balance to be compared is an electrically serviced balance.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
cudgel. It is maintained continuously by any suitable electrical device, shown diagrammatically at 15. The hairspring, 16, of the balance to be compared is held at its upper end by any suitable clamp, such as the spring clamp. wheel 12-14 shown in Figure 2. The clamp, shown in this figure, is a common clamp in comparison devices. One can also utiljser, -le preference, a double clamp according to the invention, shown in Figure G, which will be described below.
In the example of FIG. 2, the balance 10 being a balance-motor drives in its turn, by means of its own drive system of the gear train or by any other drive system, an axis 20 ( see figure 5) placed inside the hollow shaft 19 and bearing at its end an index 18. In this way, when the balance to be compared is placed inside the apparatus , the end of its hairspring 16 being held in the clamp 12-14, it is possible, during the comparison, to lengthen or shorten the length of the hairspring according to needs by acting on this clamp. This adjustment shifts the balance by a certain angle.
If the equilibrium position of the balance with respect to the electromagnet 15 is that shown in FIG. 4, the adjustment of the length of the hairspring may have the result of bringing it into a position similar to that of the balance spring. gure 3. To bring back, after each important adjustment, the

.ou- smoothing in the slide 2 of the socket, which supports the post 4 (see fibers 1 and 2) which allows to turn the whole of the bracket, 7-7a-4, and the components 11 -12 which are attached to it, around the axis of the device. In this way, the balance is swept into the correct position.
The comparison is read using the standard dial 17 and the index 18. Figure 6 These two organs are driven, as we said above, respectively by the standard balance and by the balance wheel will turn in the same direction and, consequently, the position (the index 18 on the dial 17 allows to compare their movements. In the case where the index 18 does not follow the dial 17, we either lengthens or shortens hairspring 16 until index 18 comes to rest on the dial, that is to say, does not move faster or slower than frame 17.
For ease of reading, the divisions are provided on airal 17. Moreover, a mark 17a has been drawn on this dial which facilitates reading.
The usual clamp 12-14 can be replaced by a special clamp according to the invention, which has been shown by way of example in FIG. 6. This double clamp is constituted by two elementary clamps 24-25 made integral by three pinions 26, 27 and 28, the rotational movement of which is controlled by a button 29. t'ou-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
verture of the grippers is controlled by a single lever 30 acting on two angled levers, 33, which are supported, at 34, on the axes of the knurls, 25, and which are articulated at 35 to the axes of the scrapers 24,
As a result, by pressing on the lever 30, the levers Stt are made to tilt and the wheels are moved away from each other.
This clamp makes it possible to maintain the point of attachment of the hairspring in a very rigid manner, which increases the precision of the comparison.
