<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

[Self-releasing ball valve
The present application relates to improvements to the main patent 110357993, of February 7, 1929, and to the improvement patent N 377056, dn February 4, 1931, for an anti-friction valve of which all the movable control parts are of anti-friction character, produced so as to produce a work of minimal friction, of which the plug of a conical shape with double passage for fluid, symmetrical about its axis, balanced in the lateral direction is tightened whose seat by the pressure of fluid and by a return device which is adjustable while driving, this valve being operated by means of an anti-friction discharge device and simultaneously automatic drive,
this valve having improvements characterized in that all the moving parts of the automatic unloading, return and axial adjustment devices of the stop, are placed in a protective tube which can be easily removed when operating by means of a simple unscrewing of the deas-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
axial adjustment of the stop held at the anterior end of the tube and of the assembly screw held at the posterior end of the tube and whose tap takes on the thread ae the rod to the plug, this screw being at the same time the adjusting screw of the return spring already set during assembly. Said protective tube forms an integral part, in one embodiment, with the sheath controlling the relief device and which is at the same time articulated with the control handle,
the latter being placed in the body of the valve and having a shape or being arranged so as to ensure that the movable control parts of the valve have only undergone the motor-moment and the axial forces.
The valve according to the present invention comprises a handle, which has a cylindrical part of contact hinged with the posterior end of the protective tube bearing two TEETHs arranged on the same diameter perpendicular to the axis of the handle, these teeth having the appropriate axial play in the corresponding notches provided in the handle; the cylindrical contact part with articulation, of said maiuiette being centered directly or indirectly with respect to the axis of the valve and of the wood.
The plug has undergone the maximum possible axial lightening by providing for communications through holes for example between the saluted parts below and above the 'plug and additionally by the continued escape of the material of the body of the plug by the enlargement of the glasses to the edge of the bushel.
Narrow tabs for contacting the plug with the body of the valve are provided at the periphery of the two blind parts OF the plug, which tabs ensure, during operation, the additional discharge of the plug by constituting the pressure layer of the fluid.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The communication between the anterior and posterior parts of the plug also allows the increase, necessary for the solidity, of the thickness of the plug, without appreciably increasing the surface undergoing the axial pressure of the fluid.
The communication of the two parts of the plug also makes it possible to reduce the axial force to which the timber is subjected and to increase very considerably the solidity of the plug, in comparison with the plug valve not having the communication, as well as in comparison with ordinary ball valves (pressurized in the lateral direction), gate and globe valves.
A sealing device with double, triple or several sealing sets is provided, this device being able to be constituted by a removable block comprising a box which contains metal washers or of another rigid material whose outer cylindrical parts and & térieu- res are precisely adjusted with respect to the stem of the plug then articulated with this stem, the other washers with respect to the said box then articulated with the body of this box and having their lateral contact parts well circular. prowled and maintained by a star spring.
The valve object of this invention comprises a sealing device which has two, three, or more sets of flexible membranes of metal or other material, one fixed and clamped against the stem of the valve, and the other directly or indirectly against the body of the valve, these membranes having their circular lateral contact parts well lapped and held by a star spring.
An auxiliary sealing device consists of a nozzle on the one hand ground against the overflow of the body
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the valve and on the other hand carried out 0tacneture by adjustment or by bourraga angularly stationary with respect to the stem of the plug.
It is provided with an automatic unloading and driving device realized by the screw with two threads reversible in both directions, arranged. one in the extension of the other, screwed and placed, without aixsl and lateral play on the one hand in the control duct and on the other hand in the controlled duct, so as to achieve thus by maneuvering the handle, the automatic discharge and the drive by means of a thread for maneuvering in one direction and by means of the other thread for the other direction.
It is also aimed at the automatic unloading and driving device which comprises two elongated rollers arranged and retained along their axis by means of axial holes and a centering embroidery placed therein, which ensures them the regular movement and the direction of movement. their axis always perpendicular to the axis of the plug, these rollers being placed between two sheaths, one controlling and comprising the screw for adjusting the axial clearances and the stop, and the other controlled, articulated with the rod of the plug each having two bearing surfaces with constant or variable inclination symmetrical with respect to the axis of the plug.
Said automatic discharge and drive device comprises, in another practical embodiment (for thick liquid for example) the control sheath or the controlled sheath which may additionally have two diametrically opposed auxiliary teeth and entering with sufficient lateral play in the notches provided in the other sheath to directly transmit the engine moment to the plug.
An automatic unloading and driving device is provided, the unloading and driving elements of which are in the form of cams, each sheath then having two surfaces.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
contact symmetrically arranged with respect to the axis of the valve; these surfaces are of a helical or oonic nature, provided so as to maneuver, in both directions, the maximum contact surface.
A device for automatic balancing of the lateral forces in the control parts is in a practical form as the control sleeve for example
EMI5.1
includes u: éémn! diai5pni 'leonell is articulated with the head of the bushel, this element / of a shape which allows it, under the action of normal forces (transmitted by the discharge elements, rollers, rollers, or others) to oscillate around the axis perpendicular to the axis of the plug and which thus allows the normal force to be transmitted exactly axially to the head of the plug.
The valve according to the present invention also comprises a device for adjusting the axial clearances in the control parts, so that it is automatically adjustable in operation during the movement of the handle of the valve, this device then comprises a lever pulled by a spring. and thus braking the adjustment screw, this lever, at the end of the travel of the handle, returns to the valve body, releases the brake allowing the action of the / spring which operates the adjustment screw, this lever being able to be operated not automatically.
The adjustment screw is angularly articulated with a friction washer which is braked by the pressure of a spring.
The accompanying drawings, and given by way of example, show:

Figure 1 shows the constructive form of an anti-friction valve 1 which has a valve 2 of a conical shape balanced in the lateral direction and of which the anterior and posterior parts are in communication by a hole. The fluid inlet is made by two glasses symmetrically arranged with respect to the axis of the valve 2 and the outlet through the orifice 5.
In this way, the pressure on the valve 2 is directed along its axis and tightens it against its seat. The plug, the angle of which has such a taper that jamming is avoided, is also retained against its seat by a spring return device? by moderate force it is preserved against shock
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in the event of pressure return, by the fact that the rear part has minimal play.
The stem of the plug 2 has the front threaded part and bears a transverse groove (fig. 4) for assembly with the block of the control and return parts.
The cylindrical casing tube 6, made up of the control sheath 10xxxxxxx of the unloading device and the driving a screw 12) and is articulated by two symmetrical teeth (fig. 6 and 5) with the handle 13.
The screw 12 has two threads, one of which, in the left direction, is put in the thread of the control sleeve 10, and the other, in the right direction, is put in the thread of the controlled sleeve 11.
The screw 12 is tightened without play in the axial direction, so that the discharge, and simultaneously the drive, begins as soon as the handle is subjected to the tangential force.
To perform the discharge in one direction, a thread is used, and to perform it in the other direction, the other thread works.
Fig.2 shows the same valve, on a double scale, where the discharge and drive device is made by two rollers; these two rollers 12 'are held laterally by the fork of the sheath 10' in which they are placed; the bending direction axis of said rollers is remote from the valve axis by a selected distance, the angle of inclination of the support elements is aooru.
The shape of said bearing surfaces is provided eomme being cylindrical, and of a suitably chosen ayon (greater than the radius of the roller); thus, the angle of inclination of the concave a "gradually increases in both directions of the maneuver. The bearing element 11 'which is articulated with the head of the stem of the plug is made of a shape which allows it a slight oscillation (see fig. 2). Two notches, in which enter, with sufficient clearance, two teeth 8 of
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
the gafne 11 '. are used to operate the directanent bushel after loosening, which can. be useful for thick liquids for example.
The protective tube 6 has all the parts of the adjustment device, automatic drive and return, mounted on the tube outside the valve, so that the spring 7 is tight enough for the operation in maneuver,
The foot 21 of the spring bears by its edge against the posterior edge of the tube, seals by minimal clearances in the contact parts, and serves to transmit the spring pressure to the valve body. The nut 0 is preserved against any unscrewing, for example by the screw-spindle 24 By maneuvering the adjusting screw 14, the axial clearances between the plug head and the stop are eliminated, by pressing the stop against the body in tap.
The device protecting against unscrewing of the screw 14 is achieved by the fact that the cap of the screw 14, which protects the screw against dust, is actuated angularly by the spring 15 which tends to unscrew the screw 14, to create thus the thrust against the stop AND to eliminate in this way the axial play in the rollers 12 '(fig. 2') or in the old threads of the screw 12 (fig.l), and in all the parts between the stopper and plug head 2.
The other end of this spring 15 operates on the lever 16 (fig.2) which, by the force P Fig.7). tighten the brim of the hat and brake it; the extension of this lever 16 is provided in such a way that when the handle 13 is operated, the lever 16 meets the body of the valve, releases the cap with the screw 14 and allows the spring to automatically adjust the axial clearances by the screw 14.
The sealing device (fig.l) comprises a nozzle 18 running against the edge of the body of the valve 1; the said nozzle 18 has the seal 17, of a suitably chosen material, tight
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
securely by a stuffing-box 20 which also performs the initial tightening of the lapped part of the nozzle 18 by means of a star-spring 22 placed outside the fliid.
By operating the handle 15 and consequently the protective tube 6 and the control sheath 10 'in one or the other direction, the rollers 12' are caused to roll on the one hand on the concave part of the sheath. control and, on the other hand, their bearing on the support element 11 ', also concave.
This causes the creation of two normal forces and two tangent forces, the first cause the axial discharge of the plug 2 until the moment resisting the rotation of the plug is equal to or less than the motor-moment created by the two tangent forces mentioned.
Fig. 4 shows a plan view of the plug 2 made so as to constitute the side pocnes which bridge provided on the one hand to increase the unit pressure in the contact parts at rest and on the other hand for the additional discharge which occurs by the fact of two lateral layers of the pressure medium in the discharge space.
Figs. 8 and 9 show a variant of the AUTOMATIC unloading and driving device produced by two elongated 12 "rollers; these rollers each have an axial hole, in which is placed a centering pin 23 ensuring the identical movement. of each roll relative to the valve axis.
This form makes it possible to use rollers. Long, very rigid, and a desired distance from their bending axes, from the axis of the valve.
Fig.10 and 11 show the automatic unloading and driving device produced by the oames 12 "'and 11" whose surfaces are provided with a double taper shape with an axis 0-0.
