 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

La figure 1 estune vue par coté montrant une disposition de l'appareil comprenant un réservoir sous pression auquel est appliqué le dispositif de vidage suivant   l'invention:   un compresseur d'air entraîné par un moteur ordinaire ainsi que des dis- positifs pour contrôler la pression et mettre en marche ou arrêter automatiquement le moteur sont jointe au réservoir;

   ces organes étant représentés d'une façon plus ou moins conventionnelle;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   Sur le fond du réservoir 10 est placé le dis- positif de vidage automatique suivant l'invention , Sous la forme montrée ce dispositif comprend un corps principal 26; de préférence conique ou tronconique et renversé; la base présentant une collerette 27 filetée extérieurement pour la réunir avec un flasque 28 s'nulaire et fileté intérieurement fixé sur le support 29, Ce support 29 étant pourvu d'un prolon- gement 30 fileté extérieurement en 31;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

   la partie extrême de cette queue étant filetée en 37 pour recevoir des écrous 38 qui constituent une butée limitant le mouvement vertical vers le haut du piston 33. Un ressort à boudins 39 est enroulé autour de la queue 34 entre le piston 33 et la face interne de la paroi terminale 36, ce ressort est continuellement en tension et sa force estsuffisante pour pousser le piston 33 dans le logement cylindrique 32 malgré la pression de l'air ou du gaz contenu dans le réservoir;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Grâce au dispositif de vidage automatique suivant la présente invention le réservoir est maintenu exempt   d'humidité,'   car; pendant le travail, le dispositif est actionné d'une façon intermittente à de fréquents intervalles,, ce qui est dû au fait qu'une pression   oontante     n'est   pas maintenue dans le réservoir pendant que les outils ou machines quelconquesactionnée par le gaz   comprima   travaillent ;

  AUTOMATIC EMPTYING DEVICE.

   The present invention relates to an automatic emptying device and is particularly applicable to the removal of moisture from air or gas tanks or the like. The main object is to prevent the accumulation of water from condensation or other causes.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

  A more particular object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device which can be easily mounted on a reservoir in place of the ordinary tap or drain valve, and which operates automatically and without appreciable losses in volume or pressure. air or gas contained in the tank see.

   Other results and advantages procured by the invention will be brought to light more fully below.

   The intention is to apply the automatic emptying device to a pressurized tank and also consists of the components, their combination or arrangement as they will be described below,
In the accompanying drawings; forming part of said application and representing a practical embodiment of the invention
FIG. 1 is a side view showing an arrangement of the apparatus comprising a pressurized tank to which the emptying device according to the invention is applied: an air compressor driven by an ordinary motor as well as devices for controlling the pressure. pressure and automatically starting or stopping the engine are attached to the tank;

   these bodies being represented in a more or less conventional manner;
FIG. 2 is a partial view on a larger scale showing the details of the automatic emptying device in one of its operating positions,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

Figure 3 is a similar view showing the device in a different operating condition,
Figure 4 is a cross section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.

   Referring to the drawings ,. 10 shows an ordinary reservoir for compressed air or gas, said reservoir being. as shown, mounted on a base frame 11, on which is also mounted an ordinary compressor 12. The compressor 12 is connected by pipe 13 to said reservoir 10, as shown, and it is connected by a belt 14 to the motor shaft 15 of an electric motor 16, Of course, the invention is not limited to any type of tank, nor of pressure-creating machine, nor of means of driving this machine, it should be understood that the pressure must only be maintained. inside the tank between a given minimum and maximum,

   this pressure being controlled and regulated automatically ^ by a device which starts or stops @ @ the compressor when the pressure variations inside the tank exceed certain limits.

   To show the invention more clearly, it has been assumed that the motor 16 was started or stopped by means of the switch 17, 'the latter has been shown in a conventional manner as comprising pads 18,19 interposed in the motor supply circuit, and 'a movable contact 20 to interconnect these pads 18 and 19. said movable contact being carried by a return of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 square movement 21, connected in 22 with a plunger 23 actuated by a pressure gauge 24.

   All these organs have been represented in a purely conventional manner, their functioning is absolutely evident; it should simply be understood that the pressure regulator 24 should be such that the switch 17 is opened when the pressure in the tank reaches a certain degree, which has the effect of opening the circuit and stopping the engine 16. and the compressor 12, and when the pressure decreases to a certain degree the switch 17 is closed and consequently the motor and the compressor restarted, this intermittent operation occurring when the compressed air or the gas element escapes from the tank to activate the various devices that it must operate, Under these conditions,

   it is preferable to provide the reservoir 10 with manometers 25 of a suitable type.

   On the bottom of the tank 10 is placed the automatic emptying device according to the invention. In the form shown, this device comprises a main body 26; preferably conical or frustoconical and inverted; the base having an externally threaded flange 27 to join it with a flange 28 which is annular and internally threaded fixed to the support 29, this support 29 being provided with an extension 30 externally threaded at 31;

   to fit into the threaded opening generally made in the lower wall of the tank 10 to receive a drain valve that the device according to the invention. tion is intended to replace,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

The interior of the upper part of the conical body 26 is, as shown, of cylindrical shape, in this cylinder 32 a piston 33 can move, 'this piston and in most cases a circular plate but it can however have another. As shown, the piston is provided with an axial shank 34 which passes with clearance through an opening 35 made in the lower wall of the body 26 and which extends an slightly below this end wall 36,

   the end part of this tail being threaded at 37 to receive nuts 38 which constitute a stop limiting the upward vertical movement of the piston 33. A coil spring 39 is wound around the tail 34 between the piston 33 and the internal face of the end wall 36, this spring is continuously in tension and its force estsufficient to push the piston 33 into the cylindrical housing 32 despite the pressure of the air or gas contained in the reservoir;

   the nut 38 is then in contact with the wall 36 of the body 26 as shown in FIG. 3 of the drawing. However, when the pressure inside the reservoir 10 is increased to a higher degree than that for which the spring 39 balances the force exerted on the piston 33, this piston is pushed downwards by the pressure existing in the piston. reservoir 10, its movement then being limited by a collar 40 which comes into contact with the internal face of the end wall 36 of the body 26 as

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

   shown in figure 2.

   It will be appreciated that the aperture 35 is only intended to guide the tail of the piston 34 to prevent the piston from jamming, therefore the aperture 35 may have a substantially larger diameter than the tail 34. , which allows part 37 of the latter to slide freely through this opening.

   On the path of the piston 33, the body 26 carries an annular chamber 41 which communicates with the cylindrical housing 32 in which the piston moves only through upper horizontal slots 42, diametrically opposed; and to which correspond lower longitudinal slits 43. When the pressure in the reservoir 10 is sufficient to lower the piston 33 despite the pressure of the spring 39. as shown in figure 2 the upper openings 42 are exposed so that the commua Connection is established between the housing 32 and the annular chamber 41, while the lower openings 43 are closed by the piston.

   When the piston 33 is in this position, any moisture or condensate which has accumulated in the reservoir 10 flows through the axial channel 44 pierced in the extension 30, into the housing 32 at the bottom. -above the piston 33; and beyond into the annular chamber 41 through the upper slots 42.

   As soon as the pressure in the reservoir 1 0 drops sufficiently to allow the spring 39 to react and to raise the piston 339 which has the effect of closing the upper openings 42 by uncovering the lower slots 43; the liquid that has accumulated

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 in the annular chamber 41 flows through the lower openings 43 in the chamber 45 of the body 26, and beyond it escapes to the outside through a series of openings 46 made for this purpose in the end wall 35, When the movements of the piston 33 occur upwards or downwards, one of the series of openings 42 or 43 is closed before the other series is opened and puts the housing 32 in communication with the annular chamber 41. l piston thickness being determined accordingly.

   In this way, practically any loss of the air contained in the tank 10 is avoided,
By virtue of the automatic emptying device according to the present invention, the reservoir is kept free of moisture, 'because; during work the device is operated intermittently at frequent intervals, which is due to the fact that sufficient pressure is not maintained in the tank while any tools or machines operated by compressed gas are working ;

   the compressor is in fact actuated intermittently to increase the pressure in the tank as soon as this pressure has dropped by a certain amount, for example when this pressure is found to be 5 to 10 kilos less than the maximum pressure necessary for activate the control device which; automatically turns the compressor on or off,
Of course, without departing from the spirit and the limits of the invention, it is possible to considerably modify the device described to which the invention is not limited,
