  Brevet d'invention.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

   Aux dessins   annexés ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  Patent.

  Improvements to floors, ceilings, roofs and similar constructions and to blocks for such constructions.

   This invention relates to the type of floors, in which blocks or tiles are used, which have been previously shaped and which are separated from each other to form rows, so as to allow the work to be formed in spaces or voids. reserved between the blocks of the support beams usually made of reinforced concrete; Concrete is usually poured at the same time on top of the blocks, so as to form a mass of reinforced concrete with a T-shaped section, the blocks being located between the T-webs.

   In order to give the construction transverse rigidity, it is desirable to provide reinforcements.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 directed transversely with respect to the main beams, and in the usual type of block used for this purpose, cavities extending over the entire length of the blocks are made, which means that special closure plates have to be used if it is necessary to pour concrete transversely between the blocks.

   To avoid this difficulty, blocks have already been molded with fully female cavities; these blocks were cast separately in two parts in the horizontal direction, and the two parts were then assembled together This process had the disadvantage of increasing the manufacturing price and producing a weakening along the junction line, which caused difficulties in handling.

   The improved form of blocks intended for this type of floor, according to the present invention, has a cavity which does not extend over the entire length of the block; the block therefore has three of its firm sides and only one of its sides open and it can be inexpensively molded in one operation. These blocks are assembled so that their open sides abut against each other, and flanges are preferably provided along the three firm sides of the block, without there being any along the open side, so that when the blocks are in contact, two series of firm channels are formed, these channels intersecting each other perpendicularly and forming the molds for the main and transverse beams.

   In its preferred embodiment, the improved hollow block presses two substantially triangular upper cavities and two substantially lower cavities.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 triangular and reserving between them a vertical partition and two inclined partitions extending from the vicinity of the middle of the top of the block to near the bottom of the block to the sides thereof; thanks to this construction, any isolated load placed in the center of the block is transmitted to the way an arch works through the inclined partitions on the bottom, where this load is absorbed by the tension exerted in the transverse reinforcement.

   Another feature of the improved block is that a rebate is formed at the top of the open side, and the depth of this rebate increases from the top of the block to the ends; by virtue of this arrangement the blocks abut in a well-defined way against each other and sufficient compressive forces can be transmitted to displace the self-weight of the block, while concrete can be subsequently poured into it. the grooves formed by the rabbets, and this concrete tends to descend towards the ends so as to perfectly fill the joint and to form a continuous piece working in compression at the tops of the blocks, which in many cases makes it unnecessary pouring concrete on the top of the blocks.

   The side of the block opposite to the open side is preferably provided with two cleats at each end near the top of the block, so that when the blocks are assembled back to back with the cleats in contact, one can introduce a transverse reinforcement in the channels thus formed; this question is of great practical importance, because the cleats can transmit sufficient compressive forces to keep the floor in place.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 position before the poured concrete has hardened. As a variant, it is possible, during the casting, to form small cavities in the ends of the blocks in order to introduce therein short pieces of tiles or similar pieces, with the aid of which the compressive forces can be transmitted. .

   Thanks to these two arrangements, the formwork can be removed, if necessary, sooner than by the other procedures.

   In order to have to use only a minimum of formwork, the main reinforcing rods, which are placed in the spaces' or voids formed in a direction between the adjacent blocks, can be tensioned by screws and nuts or by equivalent means, before pouring the concrete into the spaces or voids, stop plates or the like being applied against the end faces of the end blocks, and the transverse reinforcement can be introduced through these rods, after they have been tense.

   The transverse reinforcement is preferably formed by flattened V-shaped rods, extending from one side of the top of one of the blocks to the bottom of that block on the other side passing under the main reinforcement and then to the top of the next block. Where these rods reach the top of the block, they pass over the cleats and are preferably bent at the ends so that they intersect, the rods however always remaining below the level of the top of the blocks.

   These transverse reinforcing rods are preferably provided on each block, so as to form a double

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 diagonal or lattice system; when preferred, however, the cross reinforcement may extend along the bottom of the cross channel for the desired distance.

   The blocks are preferably made of concrete or a similar material which hardens by itself; but they can also be made of clay, terracotta or other suitable material.

   In the accompanying drawings;
Figure 1 is a section taken through a length of floor constructed in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the invention, the view showing the open end of the blocks.

   FIG. 2 is a corresponding view taken in a direction s neri-endicular to that of FIG. 1 and showing one of the blocks in section and the other in end view.

   Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the blocks in place with their reinforcements before pouring the concrete.

   Referring to the figures, each block A is approximately twice the length of the width and preferably has a length of 45 centimeters and a width of 22.5 centimeters. The block has on three of its sides lower edges D, L; three sides are firm and form, upon contact with adjacent blocks, voids or spaces in which concrete can be poured so as to form a frame of beams Q, R directed in two directions perpendicular to one another.

   A layer of concrete P is usually spread over the top of all the blocks, this layer being associated with 2. R beams and the reinforcements of these beams so as to constitute a reinforced concrete construction with

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 beams' in T following two directions.

   The fourth side of the block is open and has cavities B, C extending roughly to the end of the block.

   At the top of the anterior or open side of the block there is a rebate m which flexes downward above the cavity C, as shown in figure 1.

   When building a floor, the blocks are placed so that their open sides face each other with holes, the two rabbets M thus forming a groove, into which mortar is poured. so as to enlarge the effective wing working in compression in the main reinforced concrete beam system.

   The two flanges D facing each other form the bottom of the mold for the main beams. Reinforcing rods H are placed in the mold and the upper facings E of the block are notched backwards, as shown in Figure 1, so as to increase the shear strength at the junction of the wing and blade. At the tops of the other closed sides of the block (the opposite sides to the open sides) are at each end L piles which come into contact with each other.

   Transverse reinforcing bars J are provided in the beams R and are advantageously arranged as shown in Figures 1 and 3, so as to constitute a lattice bracing in the transverse direction. i. FIG. 3, these reinforcing bars J are shown only in the first channel, but it is understood that they can be arranged in each of the channels.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   In the preferred embodiment, these J frames have the form of small rods curved in the shape of a V and passing over the cleats L. One end of the rod is folded down and the other is folded back. 'horizontally, so that the successive rods intersect as shown in Figure 3 in order to ensure continuity. These rods preferably pass under the main ari bars, ature H and serve to maintain the latter in the desired position relative to the bottom of the mold.

   We notice that the cavities B and C made in the block give a very light building block, and the rib F formed between the two cavities acts in the manner of an arched rib transmitting in the transverse beams the thrusts caused by an isolated load placed in the center of one of the blocks.
