<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Toy says Il Yo - Yo ".
The present invention relates to toys called "Yo-Yo" which include a body formed of two flanges joined by a fixed common axis, and a rope or string wound on this axis and by the movement of which the body is imparted various movements rise and fall due to the winding and unwinding of the twine on the axis.
In general, toys of this kind have various shortcomings: very often, especially for inexpensive items, the toy is not perfectly balanced, the flanges are simply glued to the shaft and do not hold. In other toys, the flanges, for example made of metal, can dent, resulting in malfunction. Finally, and generally speaking, it is very difficult to replace the string, or the toy becomes very complicated and is prohibitively priced.
The toy according to the invention differs from those known by a special assembly between the flanges or cheeks and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the axis such as the mounted toy is perfectly rigid, well balanced and cannot be accidentally disassembled, while allowing, by an oblique traction on the cheeks, to separate the axis, for the replacement of the string.
Also preferably, the cheeks or flanges are made of a molded material, such as rubber, which makes them dimensionally stable, hard-wearing, unbreakable and ensures perfect symmetry, and therefore exact balancing of the toy. essentially, the axis, hollow or solid, of metal, wood, rubber or other material, comprises, for each cheek, an annular projection or a hollow, which resiliently engages in or on a hollow or a corresponding projection formed in the housing that each cheek carries centrally for the end of the axis. Once these ribs and protrusions engage - which is obtained by strongly pressing the axis in the housing of the cheek, the assembly is carried out and is maintained elastically indefinitely.
In the accompanying drawing, there is shown by way of example two embodiments of the object of the invention: Fig.l is a vertical diametral section of the first embodiment, one of the cheeks not yet being mounted on 1 ' axis.
Fig.2 is an identical section of the second form.
Fig.3 is an axial section of a variant of the axis of Fig.2.
1 and 2 denote the side cheek flanges of the toy, the shape shown obviously not being limiting. These flanges are preferably made of rubber, as they are obtained in the same mold or in identical molds, the balancing of the toy is absolutely certain. Obviously, one can use for these flanges any other moldable material or not, but the rubber is preferred by what it simplifies the assembly and especially by what it does not take deformation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
permanent, does not wear out or break. At the center of each flange, and along the axis, there is formed a hollow intended to receive the end of the axis 4 joining the flanges; this hollow, preferably cylindrical, comprises (fig.l) an annular projection 5 constituting the coupling member.
The axis 4, solid or hollow, preferably made of a hard material such as copper, wood, etc., is a small cylinder, each end of which engages exactly in the corresponding recess 3 of the flanges, and has an annular groove 6 in which the corresponding rib 5 fits exactly.
For assembly, it suffices, the ends of the axis being introduced into the recesses 3, to strongly press the two cheeks towards each other to cause the ribs 5 and the grooves 6 to jump elastically into engagement. For dismantling, it is necessary to exert a separating traction on the two cheeks, in a direction inclined on the axis of the toy. Depending on the type of yo-yo, the string will simply be attached to the axis, or crossed over it. In the first case, one can provide, for a hollow shaft 4, a small bore 9 through which the string is threaded in the shaft; a retaining knot is then made which is retained inside the axis.
In the example of FIG. 2, the grooves 6 'are made in the recesses 5, while the ribs 5' are formed directly on the axis 4. These ribs can be turned in the mass of the axis (bar cutting) or they can be formed (fig.3) by a ring or ring 8 of rubber fitted into an annular groove 7 of the axis.
When the cheeks or flanges 1 and 2 are made of a non-elastic material, one can obviously provide in their center a hole of larger diameter, in which is held a rubber ring having the rib or the projection hooking to the axis 4 or again we can, in the same order of ideas as in fig. 3, engage an elastic ring in a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
corresponding groove in the central hollow. Likewise, in all cases the axis 4 can have come from the mold directly with one of the cheeks, only one cheek then being removable, which gives the same result.
CLAIMS.
