EMI1.1
divers désldéreta.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

. Swivel pipe fitting
It is sometimes necessary to connect two parts of pipe having quite different orientations.
For rigid pipes, which may be exposed to certain movements, it is prudent, to avoid ruptures, to provide for the possibility of relative movements at a few points.
In various cases it is useful to be able to ensure free expansion.
Finally, there are applications where it is necessary to be able to give, at will, quite varied directions to a pipe element.
The invention allows, by very simple means, the production of an orientable connection, satisfying these
EMI1.1
various desldéreta.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This orientable connection is constituted by a tubular part open at both ends and forming Lnterieure- .rient "spherical zone" at one of these.
The inner diameter of the spherical part is greater than the inner diameter of the tubular part, on the circumference of connection therewith. Beyond that, the tubular part can flare and: have a larger or smaller diameter ..
Inside the spherical zone, a ring of elastic substance is movable, concentrically, with friction. This ring is held, with clamping, -elastically or by any suitable means- around the end of a second tube.
The elasticity of the ring allows it to be force-fitted into the spherical part, by one or the other end thereof, according to the proportions adopted, according to the cases and applications. The second tube, which has thus become internal to the first, extends the latter.
It follows from this provision:
A - That the elastic ring forms a tight seal between the two tubes,
B - That within the planned construction limits, these can take any orientation with respect to each other,
C - That they keep this orientation, because of the friction of the elastic ring against the spherical part.
D - That the free longitudinal expansion? tubes is secured.
The assembly therefore forms an orientable connection for all pipes of a fluid, liquid or gas. The free end, respectively of the outer tube and of the inner tube, can receive any suitable shape.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fluid flow can be provided in either or 1) other direction.
If one of the tubes must be movable around the joint produced, it will be one or the other, depending on the case and application.
For some of these: large diameter tube, circulation of a fluid under a certain pressure, etc., it may be useful to provide the spherical part in two parts. These will be connected and made watertight by all appropriate means.
A particular interesting application will consist in the production of an articulated model of household appliances, known as "jet breakers" adapting to the taps.
In these devices, various arrangements are recommended in order to "break" the jet, causing a greater or lesser pressure drop, which slows down the exit of the water.
The problem seems to have to be seen differently.
To avoid splashing, it suffices to obtain a smooth liquid stream, with parallel threads and having substantially the same speed. Various forms of nozzles allow this result.
It is also necessary to take into account the need not to reduce the maximum possible flow too much. It is therefore necessary to have an outlet nozzle having a fairly high "flow coefficient". This, on the other hand, makes it possible, for a determined flow rate, to reduce the exit speed of the liquid streams and consequently the intensity of the impact on arrival of these threads in a sink or any container.
The advantage is further obtained that by limiting, for the same flow rate, the inlet pressure required for the valve supplying the jet nozzle, the risk of leaks is reduced for the latter.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It can be used for the outlet tube of the jet breaker; at the entrance therein, a short cone of about 30 is connected with a long outlet cone, the latter having only a slight slope (from 5 to 6 approximately); the same flow coefficient will be obtained, within dax percent, by the use of a simple cylindrical tube.
The actual devices for "breaking the .jet" do not appear to be of any use. In any case, if one wants to produce any pressure drop in the device, it is a complete error to obtain this one on the way out of Le. For the same flow, the pressure between the inlet tube and the outlet tube is unnecessarily increased, and the risk of leakage between them is therefore increased.
In the accompanying drawing, the single figure represents,

by way of example, in section lonC, -itudinile, a schematic arrangement gen "rule of the invention.
A is the part tUbula1.l'e, extr: 1st, inter- estly forming, towards one of its ends, the spherical zone B.
The elastic ring C movable, concentrically, inside the spherical zone B, is held elastically tight at one end of the inner tube @
The ring C retracts elastically, by force, through the

verture 5.G of the part forming interiorG: nent spherical zone 1. that B.
The connection of this spherical zone B to the tubular part A is effected, as described above, by a circumference having a smaller diameter than that. of the spherical part.
It is possible to reduce the passage diameter F and to form, between the opening of the tubular part A and the spherical zone B, a diameter K making it possible to produce, if necessary, a pressure drop. The latter, being anterior to the outlet tube D and to the chamber H existing between the inlet tubes.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
sort and thus does not present any disadvantage for the sealing provided by the elastic ring C. The diameter of the outlet tube D must be proportioned to that of the diaphragm.
There is shown an elastic ring M making it possible to ensure the seal between the tubular part A and an inlet valve (not shown), a single or multiple ring in the known manner.
The general schematic arrangement of the drawing could be particularly applicable to the case of an articulated jet breaker.
The drawing is given only as an example its proportions are arbitrary.
While remaining within the limits of the invention, modifications can be made to it, depending on the case and application, which do not alter the principle thereof.
