 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   Dans le troisième type de pavage, ces derniers inconvénients sont extrêmement réduits, mais au détriment de la liaison qui n'est plus alors qu'incomplète; en effet, si on considère deux pavés voisins de ce système, chacun d'eux possède une face non verticale qui vient prendre appui sur la face correspondante, parallèle, du second pavé;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  "Improvement in paving"
It has been found that, in order to establish a pavement intended to withstand intense traffic, the paving stone remains, at the present time, the best coating.

  However, if it is not established on a foundation distributing in a uniform manner on the subsoil the forces which the vehicles exert in a few

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 points on the road surface, the best existing paving deteriorates too quickly. Now, a perfectly monolithic foundation has drawbacks, since all the materials do not lend themselves equally well to its establishment and, moreover, in built-up areas, it risks preventing easy access to the multiple underground pipes. An attempt has therefore been made to produce paving stones which, being linked to one another, no longer necessarily require the presence of such a foundation and, until now, three types have been recommended.

   In the first type, the various elements which constitute the roadway are connected by means of bolts, keys, pins, rivets, etc ...; but these accessory connecting parts, despite careful machining which increases the cost price of the paving, are fatally deteriorated by bad weather and no longer lend themselves to easy disassembly of the coating. Also, in the second and third types of paving, use is no longer made of the previous special members and the connection between the elements only results from their geometric shape.

  In the second type, tongues or tenons, on the one hand, grooves and mortises, on the other hand, are arranged on 1 the vertical faces in contact with neighboring paving stones; but the importance of tenons and mortises, essential for the connections to be effective, leads to an increase in the thickness of the parts and, especially if the material used is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 expensive, the price of paving, already high because of the machining costs, is excessively increased.

   In the third type of paving, these latter drawbacks are extremely reduced, but to the detriment of the connection which is then only incomplete; in fact, if we consider two neighboring blocks of this system, each of them has a non-vertical face which comes to rest on the corresponding, parallel face of the second block;

   one of the paving stones is thus prevented by the other from moving, for example, @ up and down, but nothing opposes its movement in the opposite direction *
The present invention consists in giving the pavements shapes such as to result, between neighboring paving stones, a certain number of geometric connections the combination of which makes it possible to obtain a perfect connection between any two contiguous elements of the pavement, that is to say a connection "which opposes their vertical displacement, both upwards and downwards. According to the invention, this perfect connection between any two adjoining paving stones can be obtained, either directly , or indirectly ..

   In the direct connection, each of the two contiguous paving stones has at least one non-vertical face which rests on a parallel face of the other paving stone and at least one other non-vertical face which lies below another. face of the second block (it being understood that any system

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 tenon-and-mortise type embedding system is not considered).

   In the indirect connection, it is necessary to consider at least three blocks, joined two by two, and two solutions are then possible. The first consists in establishing the preceding direct connection between the first and the second paving stones and between the second and the third; as a result, it is obvious that any relative displacement of blocks 1 and 3 is made impossible, even if there is no elementary connection between these blocks.

   The second solution states the following remark, if the first block presses on the second and the second on the third, the first thus opposes, through the second, the movement from bottom to top of the third; and if, moreover, the third rests directly on the first, its downward movement is also impossible, so that there is a perfect connection between the first and the third paving stones. It is easy to see that the same is then between the first and the second blocks and between the second and the third.

   This bonding method according to the invention therefore makes it possible to obtain a continuous pavement body having all the qualities of a monolithic pavement, although being essentially, according to the invention, easy to assemble and dismantle. . In addition, the ease of implementation and the simplicity of the system resulting from the fact

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 that the paving stones according to the invention have several vertical planes of symmetry and that they are all similar to one another for a given type of roadway.

   The invention will moreover be better understood with the aid of the appended drawings, in which there are shown, purely by way of example, two embodiments according to the invention.

   FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a paving stone according to a first embodiment, and FIG. 2 shows, in plan, the assembly of four paving stones of this type.

   FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a paving stone according to a second embodiment, and FIG. 4 is a plan view of four of the latter paving stones.

   In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, the block is made up of two parallelepipeds, superimposed and forming a body, the major horizontal axes of which are rectangular and the centers of symmetry aligned on the same vertical. Referring to figure 2, we see that the blocks A & B, A & C, B & D, C & D, are directly connected to each other in a perfect way. On the other hand, the floors A & D and B & C are only linked indirectly according to the first solution envisaged.

   The example of Figures 3 & 4 shows a tiling established according to a second embodiment. The pavement of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 FIG. 3 is constituted by a regular hexagonal plate: lière, 3, provided, on its lower face, with vertical wings, 4, radiating from its center and protruding from its edges.

  These wings, three in number, are arranged according to three apothems of the hexagon and form between them angles of 120; they come under the upper part, 3, of the neighboring paving stones. The assembly of these paving stones is an example of an indirect connection according to the second recommended solution.

   The block shown in Figures 3 & 4 has many advantages. First of all, it enables an extremely efficient connection to be made between the elements of the roadway, which nevertheless remains easily removable. The hexagonal shape of the upper part of the paving stones leads to an excellent distribution of the tangential forces of the vehicles; these forces are, in fact, transmitted to the edges of the roadway and the formation of undulations is thereby rendered almost impossible.

  Finally, the upper plate being reinforced by the vertical wings, its thickness can be significantly reduced.

  Pavers of this type can be laid simply on a layer of sand held in place by the vertical wings. The borders can be made of concrete or any other material.

   It must be understood that the two aforementioned embodiments are given only by way of example.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 and that the invention relates, in all its generality, on the one hand to the method of bonding between the paving stones as described above and, on the other hand, to the new industrial product consisting of a paving stone. the shapes of which allow the practical implementation of said process. Finally, the subject of the invention is also, as a new industrial product, a roadway established with the preceding paving stones.

   The paving stones according to the invention can be made of any material, such as wood, metal, etc., and they can be homogeneous or heterogeneous. The upper part of the paving may or may not be provided with streaks; it can be used directly as a running surface or covered with any coating.

   Finally, although the main raison d'être of the process according to the invention is to allow the elimination of the monolithic foundation, it must be understood. that the paving according to the invention can, optionally, be placed on a more or less resistant lower layer comparable to a foundation.
