Dispositif extincteur d'incendie.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Fire extinguisher device.
This invention relates to a fire extinguisher device.
The extinguishing devices generally used in the fight against fires work by projecting on the fiame materials a body, gas, liquid or pulverulent solid, intended for. stop the spread of: the fire and extinguish it.
But the mode of action of these devices
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
devices is often faulty in that it projects-- ,. the body used for extinction at a single determined point, effectively extinguishing the fire at this point, but does not subtract it from the radiation of heat resulting from the combustion of the surrounding points. that as soon as one leaves one point for another, the fire resumes at the point abandons, reducing to. nil them. efforts already made.
The device according to the invention, which overcomes these drawbacks, comprises in combination with a reservoir capable of supplying a suitable extinguisher body or fluid under suitable pressure, an ejector capable of distributing the extinguisher body or fluid in a conical sheet, at an angle to the suitable top, allowing encirclement of the inflamed area and its gradual reduction by the appropriate operation of the ejector. in order to ensure a rapid and safe extinction of the fire occurring in this area.
In the appended drawings which show schematically by way of examples of the extinguisher apparatus according to the invention:
Fig. 1 shows one type of ejector that can be used, Fige. 2 and 3 are two diagrams showing two different modes of use of the voter,
Fig. 4 shows a form of extinguisher device,
Fig. 5 shows in section, on a larger scale, the ejector of the device according to FIG. 4,
Fig. 6 is a variant of FIG. 5.
Fig. 7 shows a sectional view of an ejector capable of distributing the extinguisher fluid body along a dtangle sheet with a variable apex,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 8 is a cross-section along V-V of FIG. 7
Fig. 9 is a variant of Fig 7, allowing the automatic variation of the apex angle,
Fig. 10 schematically shows another form of the extinguisher device.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the extinguisher apparatus comprises, connected to the extinguisher body tank, an elector 1, for example such as that indicated in FIG. 1, receiving by a pipe 2 the body that it is responsible for distributing, intended to ensure the extinction of the fire.
This ejector, of any desired type, may or may not be arranged so as to be able to vary the angle at the top of the conical sheet along which the body is distributed. This ejector is carried by a frame of any desired size and constitution, so as to be able to bring it above an inflamed area, this frame comprising, of course, an arm not shown at the end of which is fixed the ejector with its supply line 2.
In Fig. 2 is shown a first mode of use of the ejector of FIG. 1. This ejector is brought over the inflamed area 5 and to a sufficient Thrower in position.
A, so that the conical layer 4 of the body distributed by the ejector completely encircles this inflamed zone then, by gradually lowering the ejector by the suitable maneuver of the btti which supports it, it is successively brought to positions B , C: by this lowering of the ejector, the area surrounded by the sheet 4 gradually decreases in surface area, so that the fire prevailing in this area is gradually reduced until it is completely extinguished.
Gn therefore sees that the fire, attacked over the entire periphery of the inflamed area
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ignited, is fought in an absolutely safe manner and the progressive reduction of this zone in a confinât way does not leave at any point an outlet by which the fire could spread outside.
In Fig. 3 is indicated, still schematically a mode of use of the ejector, the ejector 1, used in this case. has a control 6 making it possible to vary the angle at the top of the conical layer of distributed body. The use is then as follows: - The ejector brought above the inflamed zone 5 is put into operation so that the angle at the top of the layer 4 allows the latter to completely surround the zone 5 then , by means of control 6, the angle at the top of the sheet is progressively reduced: until the distribution of the body or fluid is brought about in the form of a vertical jet, so as to also reduce zone 5 as far as when the fire in that area is completely extinguished.
It would also be possible to obtain the variation of the circled zone by the variation of the fluid supply pressure in the ejector, which results in: a variation of the angle at the top of the web.
The device could also be used in the opposite way, by first distributing the extinguisher body in the center of the inflamed zone, then by increasing the zone limited by the conical layer, either by increasing the height of the rod, or by varying the angle at the top of the water table, until complete reduction and extinction of the fire.

As seen in Fig. 5, the ejector 1 comprises a nozzle 9 having at its outlet end a conical orifice
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
conical 10 of angle to the determined subject. In a bearing 11 formed on this nozzle is suitably fixed. by its rod 12, a valve 13 of angle at the apex corresponding to that of the orifice 10, a determined clearance 14 existing between the valve and the orifice forming a directing nozzle, to allow the passage of the extinctive body -, its exit in a determined direction.
We see that, the extinguisher body arriving suffers; pressure determined by the pipe 2 in the nozzle 9, escapes through the nozzle 14 following a conical sheet of constant apex angle, determined by the taper of the orifice 10 and of the valve 13, as well as by the characteristics characteristics of the projected body.
In the example of Fig. 6, the ejector further comprises a nozzle 9 having a conical orifice 10 in which the valve 13 can move, the rod 12 of which comprises a button 15 on which a return spring 16 acts.
The normal position of the ejector according to Fig. 6 is closed: it suffices to press the button 15 to obtain the opening of the valve 13. There, again, the corpa. or extinguisher fluid is distributed in a conical sheet of angle at the apex determined by the conioité of the orifice .10 and the valve 13.
To obtain, with the extinguisher device using, one of the ekecteur shown in figs. 5 and 6. the reduction of an inflamed zone it suffices to bring the elector above this zone so that the conical layer of extinguisher body formed, covers in some aorta this, zone, the surface
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
continuous surface-formed by the sheet acting like an extinguisher, isolating the area from the outside air .. so that the fire goes out for lack of combustion air; the pressurized gas, used for the constitution of the web, also being an inert gas, carbon dioxide or the like, further tends to accelerate this extinction.
It is also possible to maneuver the ejector up and down, above the zone to reduce the fire more quickly, but it should be noted that the device has, even fixed, without moving the injector, a large efficiency.
In Fig.7 is a reader -pouvant distributing the extinguishant fluid according to a conical sheet of variable apex angle. The nozzle 9 has a cylindrical outlet orifice 16 in which a nut 17 can move, comprising on its periphery elementary channels 18 whose section decreases from the fluid inlet face 19 to the opposite face 20. . These channels constitute guiding nozzles 14 and are established following a helical path on the periphery of the nut 17, the pitch of the propeller being variable, maximum near face 19 and minimum near face 20, as indicated in drawing,
This nut is joined together by a head 21 comprising, for example, an elongated thread 22 engaged in a nut 23 integral with the stop.
an operating button 24 allows the rotation of the rod 21.
The operation is as follows: -
If the nut 17 has completely entered the hole
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
16 of the nozzle, the fluid arriving in this base under suitable pressure, engages in the channels 18 with a high speed which increases as a result of the decreasing section of the channels; each fluid stream escapes while keeping a direction tangent to the channel at its point of exit, that is to say at the lower part of the orifice 16.
It can therefore be seen that, depending on the position occupied by the nut 17 in the cylindrical orifice 16, the fluid threads guided by the channels 18 will have a direction more or less inclined to the vertical, thus constituting a conical sheet of variable apex angle. By operating the button 24 :, it is possible to obtain the displacement of the nut 17 and consequently to control the variation of this angle at the top.
Finally, in Fig. 9, in the nozzle 9 of the elector is mounted a turbine wheel 25 mounted on a freely rotating shaft 26 and may include a braking device not shown in the drawing.
When the pressurized fluid passes through the nozzle, the impeller 25 stopped and which, owing to its inertia, begins to rotate only gradually, initially acts as a stationary distributor so that the fluid streams exit in a direction. indicated by the arrows f (Fig. 9). flee, the speed of rotation of the wheel increases, the direction of the fluid threads becomes less and less inclined on the axis, thus achieving the formation of a conical sheet with a decreasing apex angle.
It is of course possible to establish a braking device on the shaft 26 according to the period suitably evaluated for
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
for the extinction of an inflamed area such as the conical sheet, which, at the beginning, is of angle at the maximum apex. n ', have $ one angle at the minimum vertex only after a time after which the inflamed area is completely extinguished,
In Fig. 10 is shown schematically another mode of use of the extinguisher device with the ejector distributing the fluid as much as a sheet of constant apex angle, with an axis inclined to the vertical.
In this case, pipe 2 (Fig. 4) becomes unnecessary, the reduction of the circled area being obtained by bringing the voter closer together, which is then directly attached to the tank 7. in the direction of the inflamed area. 5.
These devices therefore allow, by spreading the fluid along a conical sheet, the formation of a sort of snuffer, the conical sheet constituting a substantially continuous wall interrupting the contact between the inflamed area and the external atmosphere, and thus preventing the air to supply the oxidizer necessary for the coupling. In addition to the gas or extinguisher flude used for the dispersion of the body: powder, foam or other, being an inert gas, it further contributes to, depleting the ignited zone in oxidizing gas and, consequently, to accelerate its extinction.
The extinguisher device can, of course, use any extinguisher substance desired, in any suitable physical state, liquid, gas, powder or other, or a mixture of substances: these various states.
The invention has; applied to fire extinguishing devices, for all applications.
