<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"SELF-LUBRICATING Looms"
The looms of the looms which are used to print on the shuttles, by a succession of shocks, their continuous back-and-forth movement, are made up of pieces of specially treated leather or of horn. cleats are guided either by metal rods and grooves, or only by grooves in which the side projections of the cleats engage. The rubbing parts must be greased to facilitate movement. However, the air in the workshops is always contaminated by dust from textural materials which stick to the greased parts so that the conglomerate of grease and fibers thus formed is very often
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
thrown by the cleat between the warp and the weft of the fabric, which produces defects in the fabric.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback by the use of cleats which do not require lubrication.
It consists of self-lubricating looms cleats with their rods and guide grooves characterized in that one or more of the rubbing parts are of a homogeneous material containing a solid self-lubricating product, fibers, a binder and fillers. , said material having a density and elasticity close to that of leather and a resistance to dry rubbing much greater than that of leather.
The accompanying drawings show several examples of execution of the object of the invention.
Figures 1 and 2 show views of a cleat according to the invention for looms "whip".
Figures 3 and 4 show transverse and longitudinal sections of this embodiment.
FIG. 5 shows a second embodiment in partial cross section.
FIG. 6 shows in longitudinal section a third embodiment of such a cleat.
Figures 7 to 10 show in two views and two sections a cleat for "saber" looms which is constructed according to the invention.
The stopper shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 comprises, at the orifices for the passage of the guide rod, two bushings d and dl made of generally graphite material, each bush being placed a little behind the corresponding face of the stopper.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
so that it is not exposed to shocks liable to damage it. The material used may include as a solid self-lubricating substance graphite, talc or even mica, etc., as a binder of a synthetic resin or a rubber-like substance, and as a filler of sawdust, chalk and also a metallic powder facilitating the flow of the heat of friction. A suitable choice of fibers and binder will be made so as to ensure that the self-lubricating material has suitable mechanical characteristics (density, elasticity, etc.).
This is particularly useful when the body of the cleat is of a material similar to that of the rubbing parts. An example of such a stop will be described later. All the substances in question are, as the case may be, cold or hot pressed, each according to its category polymerized or vulcanized, molded or machined.
The anchoring of the parts made of self-lubricating material in the body of the cleat can be ensured by known means, for example, using threads, or by gluing using glue, cement or mastic or by overmolding a plastic material on the parts of self-lubricating material or the like. If it is desired to incorporate the parts of self-lubricating material in a plastic cleat, said parts may have grooves f and fi or other roughness on the outside which ensure good anchoring of the parts in the mass of the cleat and the two materials can. be subjected together to molding pressure and polymerization or vulcanization.
Since a cleat according to the invention does not need lubricating oil for its operation, it can be carried out before
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the body, instead of leather or horn, in a material such as rubber, natural or synthetic, gutta-percha, or balata, or their mixtures with other bodies, which is what it is. Could not have considered previously, said materials being attacked by mineral oils. However, it is obvious that a flexible rubber quality, sufficiently rigid, is the ideal material for these cleats because it withstands impacts well without breaking, cracking or wearing out. Figures 3 and 4 show, in section, with mixed hatching the parts e of the rubber or rubber-based substance.
Other very suitable materials for the construction of the cleat bodies are fibers impregnated with synthetic resins - spun, felt or woven - the fabrics, paper or board which can be formed in loose clippings or in equal layers.
The thinned end b of the cleat which slides freely in a groove is, according to Figures 1 to 4, covered with a metal jacket which is intended to give it more rigidity. This part can be fixed by two rivets, as shown in the drawing, or can be anchored in some other way in the body of the cleat, for example with its edges curved inward. As shown in FIG. 5, this end b can also be made of the same material containing graphite as the bushes d and be anchored in the material of the tacuet, for example by a dovetail interlocking g. The molding allows to obtain by heat and pressure a permanent fixation of the whole. The use of a metal shirt then becomes unnecessary.
Figure 6 shows another kind of application of the invention to a whip cleat: instead of using only self-lubricating sockets and ends, the entire cleat
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is made of self-lubricating plastic. At the places where the cleat comes into contact with the points of the shuttles, two rubber buffers g and g 'have been placed, for which a rubber mixture is naturally used such that it has the desired elasticity and sufficient wear resistance. - health. These two rubber buffers can have the special shape indicated by the figure, their emerging part gradually widening under the action of repeated shocks against the shuttles. These pads can be fixed or removable to allow their eventual replacement.
Instead of using such rubber buffers, test the self-lubricating plastic material of which the cleat body is made, which may itself have the necessary shock absorbing characteristics. It can, for example, contain soft rubber or materials with similar physical properties as a binder.
FIGS. 7 to 10 show an example of application of the invention in the case of a saber cleat, guided in its reciprocating movement by two grooves in which the lateral projections h and ht slide; the hatching in solid lines indicates the parts in self-lubricating material and the mixed hatching represents the soul of the cleat; this core will preferably be made of flexible, impact-resistant rubber.
The embodiments indicated so far in no way limit the invention. In any case, the body of the cleat can, as until now, consist entirely or partially of leather previously treated in a special way.
For example, it is possible to manufacture a "whip" cleat, consisting as hitherto of leather, to which bushings of self-lubricating material are simply fitted for the passage of the guide rod. Likewise the cleat described last.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
may have a leather core for "sword" trades.
The cleat body may be made of any other material, for example wood or any molded plastic, or aluminum, or aluminum alloy or a light alloy, provided that for the rubbing parts self-lubricating materials are used entirely or partially and that therefore self-lubricating bushings, grooves or ends are embedded in the cleat body. This embodiment of the invention requires the use of irremovable or removable rubber buffers or other inserts which absorb shocks at the places which come into contact with the ends of the shuttles.
The object of the invention, elimination of lubrication, can also be achieved by employing, simultaneously with the cleats described above, or also with the usual cleats in leather, rods and guide grooves consisting of self-lubricating material or coated with such material.
The cleats with their associated parts, when they are manufactured according to the invention, have the double advantage on the one hand of avoiding the projection of lubricating oil on the fabric during manufacture, and on the other hand of allowing the use of cleats which are cheaper than the usual leather cleats.
Cleats whose body is made of a material similar to that of the rubbing parts, whether or not containing a solid self-lubricating substance, are particularly advantageous because of their mechanical characteristics similar to those of leather and of their great resistance to wear and their simplicity of manufacture.
