Mallette à deux fins.
La présente invention a pour objet une mallette qui est agencée de façon'à pouvoir servir à la fois de valise et de siège portatif, permettant ainsi au voyageur qui l'emporte de s'asseoir confortablement dans le couloir d'une voiture de chemin de fer lorsqu'il n'a pu trouver place dans un compartiment.
A cet effet, la mallette conforme à l'invention est munie de pieds escamotables, normalement effacés, que l'on peut développer pour transformer la mallette en une sorte de tabouret. Ces pieds sont préférablement disposés de manière à supporter la mallette couchée, c'est-à-dire avec une de ses grandes faces vers le haut pour former un siège de dimensions convenables, et on leur donne une longueur telle que la hauteur

du siège soit sensiblement celle d'une banquette ordinaire.
Suivant une forme d'exécution préférée de l'invention les pieds se replient dans un double fond de la mallette fermé par un couvercle, et ce couvercle ouvert sert d'entre- toise pour maintenir écartés les pieds dépliés. Le dessin annexé représente à titre d'exemple une mallette-siège ainsi ag encé e.

Comme une mallette ordinaire, celle qui est représentée sur le dessin comporte un corps rigide rectangulaire 1 avec poignée 2, et un couvercle 5 à fermetures 4. Mais le corps 1, dans lequel on peut placer des vêtements, du linge etc. est à double-fond et possède un second couvercle 5, normalement fermé par des attaches 6, qui lorsqu'on l'ouvre démasque les pieds 7, 8 repliés l'un sur l'autre dans le double-fond. S'étendant chacun sur sensiblement toute la longueur et la largeur de la mallette, les deux pieds 7,8 peuvent être dépliés en les ouvrant comme des battants de porte, par pivotement sur des axes 9 et 10 parallèles aux petits c8tés de la mallette et constitués par des vis traversant la paroi du corps 1.
Après avoir déplié les pieds 7, 8, on engage chacun d'eux dans une chape 11 ou 12, respectivement, fixée au bord adjacent du couvercle 5 du double fond, de telle sorte que les pieds se trouvent entretoisés par le couvercle 5 qui les maintient fermement près de leurs extrémités libres.

Il ne reste plus qu'à poser la mallette sur ses pieds pour obtenir un siège confortable, comme le montre la Fig. 2. On dispose, pour s'asseoir, de toute la surface du couvercle 3 de la mallette et la stabilité du siège est assurée grâce à la largeur notable des pieds 7, 8.
Dans l'exemple représenté, les pieds 7,8 sont faits chacun d'une planchette de bois, mais il va de soi qu'on peut aussi les faire en métal. De même, l'armature de la mallette peut être en bois ou en métal et recouverte de carton-cuir,de cuir ou de toute autre matière appropriée.
Il est évident aussi que, au lieu de deux pieds se repliant l'un sur l'autre, la mallette pourrait être munie de tout autre système de pieds escamotables, par exemple des pieds dépliants articulés en X, des pieds coulissants pouvant être tirés de logements ménagés par exemple dans les côtés de la mallette, des pieds télescopiques disposés aux angles de la mallette etc. Mais la mallette telle que décrite et représentée a l'avantage de pouvoir être fabriquée à, bon marché,dans les petits formats les plus demandés, tout en offrant un siège de bonnes dimensions tant en largeur qu'en hauteur, grâce à sa disposition judicieuse.
