<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

PATENT OF INVENTION "Apparatus for the study of the duration or the amplitude of a phenomenon".
The present invention relates to an apparatus for studying the duration or the amplitude of a phenomenon whose onset is caused or when the apparatus is in a determined position, comprising a device for translating the phenomenon to. study in variations of electric current.
Its purpose is to make it possible to obtain both an automatic recording and an optical indication of the duration or the amplitude of the phenomenon to be studied.
For this purpose, according to the invention, said device is connected simultaneously to an apparatus for recording by perforation of the phenomenon to be studied and to an apparatus for optical indicator of this phenomenon.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This device therefore makes it possible to translate the phenomenon to be studied into two different forms without the use of two separate devices. It is therefore possible, according to preference, to base oneself on the information obtained in one way or the other, and even to use the recording apparatus as confirmation of the optical indicating apparatus.
According to a compact and particularly advantageous embodiment, the apparatus according to the invention comprises a rotating tube towards one end of which the recording mechanism is wedged and towards the other of the ends of which is mounted an oscillograph, the light beam. reflected by the mirror of this oscillograph being received on a mirror wedged in the tube at the opposite end and inclined so as to reflect this ray at a great distance from the axis of the tube on a fixed screen.
Preferably, said tube is carried towards the middle of its length by two bearings arranged on either side of a central support to which the recording mechanism and the screen of the optical device are attached.
The invention also relates to a recording apparatus suitable for the automatic recording of the duration or the amplitude of a phenomenon the beginning of which is controlled, comprising a tape on which the phenomenon is recorded from a. origin by which the recording device passes at the beginning of the phenomenon, this recording being effected by perforation of the tape by means of a perforating mechanism which moves at constant speed in front of the tape and which is triggered at the desired moment as a result the opening of an electrical circuit under the action of a relay influenced by the phenomenon to be studied.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In this case, its aim is to prevent the triggering of the perforating mechanism outside of its passage in front of the recording tape, so that the parasites and other disturbances which could act on the said re-readings have no effect during the period of non-operation. recording.
To this end, according to the invention, at the terminals of said relay is mounted a bypass switch, the closing of which is caused, during the time when the perforating mechanism is not facing the useful part of said. band, by a cam moved with the perforating mechanism.
The drawing appended hereto schematically and by way of example only one embodiment of the invention.
This drawing is a perspective view, after partial breaks, of an apparatus comprising simultaneously a perforation recording device and an optical indicator.
There is shown an apparatus comprising a strip of paper 2 moved in the direction of arrow X by drive rollers 3. This strip bears lines 2a traced by styluses 4. Eele can be perforated by a punch. needle 5 carried by an elastic blade 6 integral with an arm 7 wedged on a rotating tube 8. The latter is for example set in rotation by a motor 28 rotating at uniform speed a worm 29 which meshes with a helical wheel 30 wedged on this tube, the speed of this motor can be regulated and its maintenance can be ensured automatically by means of a control device.
The needle 5 is normally kept away from the paper web 2 by the fact that the blade 6 is drawn into a deformed position when an electromagnet 9, happily carried by the arm 7, is connected to a source / current 10 via conductors 11 and 12, connected to rings 13 and 14 wedged via an iso-

lant on the tube 8, brushes 15 and 16 and conductors 17 and 18. Between the brush 16 and the battery 10 / is also interposed a switch 19 - which is normally closed under the action of a spring 20 but which can be open when current flows through the coil 21 of a relay * This coil can be powered from an amplifier 22 influenced by the phenomenon to be recorded.
Suppose that at the moment when the needle 5 passes in front of the line 2a of the strip 2 which is chosen as the reading origin, a cam 23 fixed on the tube 8 causes the closing of a switch 24 inserted in the circuit d. a transmitter device 25, which, in the case of a soridage device, emits sound or ultrasonic vibrations, when it is excited. Switch 24 is for example interposed in the power supply circuit of the transmitter. When the reflective wave, for example from the seabed, influences amplifier 22, switch 19 is opened and the percussionist is triggered.
The perforation made in the strip of paper 2 by the needle 5 can be seen through a magnifying glass 26 and its location is facilitated by the fact that a lighting lamp 27 is placed on the other side of the sheet of paper. .
In addition to this punch recording apparatus, the apparatus according to the invention further comprises an optical indicating apparatus. This is for example constituted by a lamp 31 placed at the end of the tube 8 close to the recording apparatus and sending a light ray onto the mirror 32 of an oscillograph placed at the opposite end of the tube. The lamp 31 is supplied for example by a source
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
current 33 earthed as well as the lamp and connected by a conductor 34 to a brush 35 rubbing on a conductive ring 36 wedged by means of a side on the tube 8 and to which the lamp 31 is connected by a driver 37.
The aforementioned oscillograph can in principle be of any type * The one shown comprises a disc 38 wedged on the tube 8 and carrying the pivot 39 of the mirror 32. This pivot is secured to a magnetic pallet 40. The end thereof is located in the vicinity of a fixed electromagnet 41 creating a constant magnetic field between its polar parts 42 and 43 by the fact that one of its windings 44 is traversed by a constant current coming from a source 45.
The other winding 46 is connected to amplifier 22 which is therefore a dual output amplifier. When the winding 46 is traversed by a current, the additional magnetic field which it generates varies the angular position of the pallet 40 against a return spring 47 and consequently causes the oscillator to oscillate. mirror 32.
The light ray coming from the lamp 31 is reflected on a mirror 48 wedged in the tube at the end opposite to that where the oscillograph is located. This mirror 48 is inclined so as to reflect the light ray at a great distance from the axis of the tube on a fixed screen 49 which can be graduated oiroonferentially and radially. The ray reflected on the eoran passes, for example, through a converging lens 54 fixed to the arm 7. The screen 49 is preferably opaque and non-reflecting.
The tube 8 is carried towards the middle of its length by two bearings 50 arranged on either side of a central support 51 to which they are integral. This support carries the various fixed parts of the recording mechanism as well as the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
notch 49 of the optical indicating device.
The recording apparatus described above is also advantageously provided with a device preventing the triggering of the perforator when the needle 5 is not facing the strip of paper. To this end, it comprises as a bypass at the terminals of the switch 19 actuated by the relay constituted by the coil 21, another switch 52 which, while the needle 5 is not facing the useful part of the strip of paper 2, is kept closed by a cam 53 wedged on the shaft 8. This switch 52 therefore puts the switch 19 in short circuit for the aforesaid time and if any disturbance, a Para-, atmospheric site for example, influences the amplifier during this time, the perforator is not triggered.
Needle 5 therefore never runs the risk of being put into oscillation as a result of the period of oscillation proper to the elastic blade 6 at the moment when it passes in front of the useful part of the strip of paper 2.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of the elements involved in its realization without departing from the scope of the present document. patent. Thus, for example, the motor 28 can be of any type and the transmission of its movement to the tube 8 can be done in any way other than that shown in the drawing. The transmitter device 25 is not necessarily an ultra-sound transmitter. It could be constituted, for example, by an acoustic transmitter or with magneto-stricture.
The apparatus according to the invention allows the study of currents and the recording of certain phenomena, either of their duration or of their amplitude. Their duration can be
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
observed on the recording tape 2 or on the screen 49 in the circumferential direction. Their amplitude can be observed on screen 49 in the radial direction. This device can be used in particular as a sounding device for the navy.
