<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Fuel pump for internal combustion engines with mechanical fuel injection.
The present invention is relative. a fuel pump for internal combustion engines with mechanical fuel injection, in particular for controlling motor vehicles. The object of the invention is to improve the mechanical injection of fuel, to simplify the control and to obtain a favorable effect on the combustion, in particular for small loads. It consists in that, not only the control cams of the pump piston have
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a symmetrical shape, but also the adjustment of the quantity of fuel sx made by modifying the moment when the injection begins, by closing a member, for example a valve, while the moment when the injection ceases. the injection is not modified, whatever the quantity of fuel injected.
Preferably, the suction valve is disposed in the piston of the pump so as to have a small nuisance space.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically two exemplary embodiments of the invention.
FIG, 1 is a longitudinal section of a fuel pump according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a variant.
The fuel pump 1 comprises a piston 2 which is actuated, in a forced manner, during the delivery stroke, by the cam 30 of the fixed cam disc 3. on the shaft 4 via the roller 5 and with guide 6, while the suction stroke is effected by the action of the spring 7. During forward travel, the shaft 4 turns in the direction indicated by the arrow and when reversing in the opposite direction. Next to the pump piston, there is provided a suction valve 9 which separates the suction line 10 from the chamber 11 of the pump, while the discharge valve 12 is arranged in the extension of the piston 2 of the pump. the pump.
The springs 13 and 14 serve to close the suction valve 9 and the discharge valve 12. The lever 16 is actuated at the same time as the pump piston 2, it turns around the axis 17 and it actuates the rod 18 which serves to hold the valve 9 open and which is lowered by the spring 19. The point of rotation 17 is adjusted by means of the eccentric 20.
While the piston 2 is lowering, the fuel
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tible is sucked from line 10 through suction valve 9 into pump chamber 11, suction valve 9 is held open by lever 16 and rod 18 from a position of the pump. piston 2 of the pump determined by the position of the point of rotation 17 or of the eccentric 20 and this suction valve 9 remains open all the time, because the piston 2 of the pump remains in its neutral position lower until the piston 4 in its discharge stroke has reached the same position as in the suction stroke and has pushed the rod 18 down enough so that the suction valve 9 re - come to his seat. So until then
during the delivery stroke, the fuel in the rise of the piston 2 could return to the suction line 10 through the open suction valve 9, after the closure of this suction valve 9, the pump then delivers through the discharge valve 14 in the discharge line 15 and via the injection nozzle, not shown, in the engine cylinder, so that the start of the injection results from the closing ¯ of valve 9. By modifying the moment when the suction valve 9 closes or the moment when injection begins, the quantity of fuel to be injected is adjusted.
The end of the injection is determined by the internal dead center of the piston 2 because, then, the udder% ton 2 begins its suction stroke and closes the discharge valve 12 and, therefore, can no longer deliver com - bustible in line 15. The moment when the injection ceases is therefore independent of the moment when the suction valve closes, ie it remains invariable whatever the quantity of fuel injected. @
In fig. 2, the suction valve 9 is arranged in the piston 2 and, during the descent of the piston 3, it is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
pushed by the angled lever 23 and is kept open until the piston 2 has reached the same position, during the delivery stroke.
To modify the moment when the suction valve closes, that is to say when the injection begins, the elbow lever 23 is rotated around an eccentric 24 which can be rotated by means of the 'shaft 25, In order to obtain a precise adjustment of the lift of the suction valve 9, the screw 26 is used. The pump cylinder 28 is introduced into the casing 29 and, due to the position of the valve suction in the pump piston, it is possible to have an advantageous arrangement of all the components and all that is needed is a screwing or unscrewing to assemble or disassemble or to reline all the parts of the pump.
The invention provides the advantage that, in addition to the simplification of the control by means of symmetrical cams, the empty stroke of the piston is reduced to a minimum due to the use of a valve whose closure causes the injection to start and therefore a low cam height can be provided, and it is possible, especially despite this low cam height, to have acceleration conditions for the pump piston at least as favorable as with the current asymmetrical cams, which is of great importance for the use of fuel pumps with two-stroke engines, but in particular for engines has four times.
Thanks to the fact that the control cam of the fuel pump is symmetrical, there is obtained, in addition to an equivalent operation in both directions, the advantage that the control of the pump is very simplified in the case of reversing motors. sibles, because it is possible to leave aside a second cam, the double roller with articulation or the displacement of a shaft
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
control or an articulated shaft with the servo motors or control motors required. In addition, the invention provides the advantage which, in particular for vehicle engines is very important, that when the speed of rotation decreases, the injection takes place later and that with a low speed, no misfires can occur, although both the compression pressure and the maximum pressure are greatly reduced from full load.
It is therefore possible to have a safe ignition thanks to the fact that the injection is done only in neutral when running on empty, that is to say during the maximum compression pressure and in at the same time, during the maximum heat of compression.
In addition, since the adjustment is done by keeping the valve open, the back pressure on the regulator is very low, allowing the use of a lightweight regulator. An adjustable coupling known per se may be provided in the control of the pump to allow the period of ingestion to be adjusted as a whole. By means of this coupling which, for example, is interposed between the control shaft 4 and the cam 3, the position of the cam 3 is adjusted relative to the control shaft 4, or, like this control shaft 4 is actuated by the crankshaft of the fuel engine, relative to the neutral positions of the pistons of the internal combustion engine,
so that the injection period can be regulated as a whole with respect to the neutral positions of the pistons of the internal combustion engine for each pump separately or for all the pumps in common. This provides the advantage that for starting at full load and low rotational speed, the most favorable injection moment can be obtained by adjustment when it deviates from the most favorable injection moment for running. empty and for descent.
Thanks to the invention, there is also the advantage that
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the flank for forward motion and the flank for reverse motion of the common cam are connected directly to each other, which allows a clear limitation of the end of the injection and is surely avoided late injection often provoked by concentric intermediate arcs.
