Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

     Marne lors de la fusion et de la coulée de métaux et d'alliages, on a, jusqu'à présent, attaché la plus grande importance à l'absence de tout contact entre le métal et l'air ou 14 oxygène. A cet effet, les bains étaient pourvus PROCEDE POUR LA COULEE DE MOULAGES A PAROIS MINCES EN METAUX NON FERREUX ET LEURS ALLIAGES"

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Fig. 1 est une vue en coupe du moule connu ;
Fig. 2 est une vue en coupe du moule destiné à   l'exécu-   tion du nouveau procédé de coulée;
Fig. 3 est une vue d'élévation d'un dispositif auxiliaire pour l'introduction de   ggz   inertes dans le moule;
Fig. 4 est une vue en coupe montrant l'application du nouveau procédé de coulée à l'établissement de moulages composites, le moule représenté étant un moule en sable;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

   The present invention relates to a process for the casting of moldings with year walls in non-ferrous metals and their alloys and aims to obtain a molding with a compact texture, completely free of blisters and oxides and in which liquations are radically avoided.

     In the melting and casting of metals and alloys, the greatest importance has hitherto been attached to the absence of any contact between the metal and air or oxygen. For this purpose, the baths were provided. PROCESS FOR THE CASTING OF THIN WALL MOLDINGS IN NON-FERROUS METALS AND THEIR ALLOYS "

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 blanket of slag and were further treated, after completion of the melting process, with reducing agents. Finally, and in the case of sand molds, the pulverized coal sand was even added, in order to make the latter react with the oxygen present in the bath and in the mold and thus render this oxygen harmless.

  Despite these measures, it has not always been possible to obtain, in the case of a thin-walled molding, a tight and perfect texture under pressure.

   The present invention is based on the observation that the main origin of the drawbacks which arise during casting must be sought in the fact that at the time of the introduction of the molten metal into the mold, eddies of the water occur. molten metal in the elbows of the flow channels, eddies which cause foaming and swirling of the metal and which inevitably results in the absorption of oxygen.

   According to the invention, it is proposed to first fill, with the molten metal, a cul-de-sac channel curved over its entire length and which forms the extension of the main jet and then to pour the metal into the filled mold. preferably heated inert gas. The cul-de-sac channel curved over its entire length and forming an extension of the main jet effectively eliminates the eddies and swirls that are harmful to the material being cast: in addition, the oxides and impurities which, at the start of the casting , could possibly be contained in the first part of the molten material introduced into the mold, are discharged into the cul-de-sac channel, where they do not exert any detrimental action.

   Thanks to the provision of the curved cul-de-sac channel, the mold itself receives only pure and unstirred material, this mold being further filled, according to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 the invention, and before the introduction of the molten substance, of an inert gas, preferably heated, deports that, even in the mold, a formation of oxides, an absorption of oxygen or the like is no longer to fear.

   According to the new process, it is possible to produce, in an absolutely perfect manner, very thin-walled moldings, only a few millimeters thick.

   According to the invention, the new casting process can be applied very advantageously to the establishment of composite castings obtained by casting non-ferrous metals or their alloys, in particular bronze (lead bronze) on an iron or steel body. . Such a composite molding is particularly relevant for the establishment of bearings, piston rings, toothed wheels and the like. When making composite castings, not only is the metal or alloy layer cast against the iron or steel body perfectly homogeneous, but also a perfect weld of the two layers of the composite body. The new casting process makes it possible, in the case of a composite casting, to give the layer of non-ferrous metal or its alloy an extremely low thickness.

   It goes without saying that the new casting process can be applied to sand molds as well as to permanent molds. When the process is performed with permanent molds, the curved cul-de-sac channel can serve as a heat accumulator for the mold, in order to heat the permanent mold for regular successive castings.

   The object of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in detail and by way of example,
In these drawings:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

Fig. 1 is a sectional view of the known mold;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the mold intended for carrying out the new casting process;
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of an auxiliary device for the introduction of inert ggz into the mold;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the application of the new casting process to the establishment of composite moldings, the mold shown being a sand mold;
Fig. 5 shows a mold corresponding to the previous one, but established in the form of a permanent mold.

   In the known mold shown in FIG. 1, the molten metal 1 is introduced by the jet 2 into the actual mold 3. At point 2a the first shocks and swirls and the first absorption of oxygen occur. The molten mass also abuts at 2b. This results in absorption of oxygen, formation of shrinkage, liquation of the metals making up the alloy, formation of intermediate layers, etc.

   The arrangement according to FIG. 2 makes it possible to avoid eddies in the molten material, the formation of blowholes, skimming and, consequently, 1-air absorption, this result being obtained by the fact that the molten metal is caused to follow a path whereby the jerk of the metal during casting is avoided.

   For this purpose, for the introduction of the molten metal 1, a channel 2 is provided which closes the arcuate extension of the main jet, thus avoiding sudden bends and allowing uniform flow of the metal. It is only after having entered the channel 2 into the bypass channel 2c that the metal rises uniformly in the mold 3, since the jerk in 2a according to FIG. 1 is avoided.

   In order to render the weak eddies completely harmless

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 which could still occur at other points of the mold, the present invention makes use of the auxiliary device shown schematically in FIG. 3.

   It is a device for the introduction of gas under pressure. According to the invention, during casting, an inert gas, nitrogen, for example, under pressure, will be introduced into the mold, this gas being usefully heated for reasons which will be explained below.

   This device consists of a tube 4 joined, for example, to a nitrogen canister, not shown, and provided with a nozzle 5 and a heating element 6, which may for example be an electric heating resistance. The nozzle 5 of the tube 4 opens, as shown in FIG. 2, in an inlet channel 7 communicating with the mold 3 in such a way that the inert gas enters the mold through the inlet and through the bottom thereof, simultaneously flowing through the bypass channels 7a and 7b.

   The method according to the invention is carried out as follows, using the device described above:
The molten material first fills the curved channel 2 over its entire length, which takes place almost smoothly.

  The mass of metal which continues to flow enters the mold 3 and meets here the nitrogen atmosphere which already prevails there at that moment and which had driven back the air or oxygen. Under such conditions, the eddies which could possibly occur would only have the effect of absorption, by the molten metal, of the harmless nitrogen.

   The heating of the nitrogen, provided by the heating element 6, is desirable in order to avoid the cooling of the molten metals by the nitrogen introduced into the mold.

   Thanks to the process described above, it is possible to obtain

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 To achieve, in a hitherto unknown way, an absolutely sealed die-casting under pressure and which is also distinguished by a higher resistance, since any introduction of oxides is avoided with certainty.

   Fig. 4 schematically shows a sand mold for the execution of composite moldings, which can be used for the implementation of the new casting process.

   The mold 10 provided with a vent 9 and a core 8 is provided, as shown in the drawing, with the steel frame 11. The introduction of the molten bronze is made by the channel 12 bypassing a channel 13 which ends in a cul-de-sac channel 14 curved over its entire length. Through channel 15, an inert gas, for example nitrogen, preferably heated, is introduced into the mold, which forces the air contained in the mold, expelling it upwards.

   The permanent mold for the execution of composite moldings shown in Fig. 5 has a conformation which can be completely compared to that of the mold according to FIG. 4.

   The bearing element or support body 16 for the composite bearing is embedded in a shell 17 so as to surround a core 18. Two channels 19 and 20 lead into the shell. Through channel 20, inert gases, eg nitrogen, preferably heated, are introduced into the shell with the aim of expelling air or oxygen therefrom. The jet 19 serves for the introduction of the antifriction metal, which first enters a dead end chamber 21 curved over its entire length and provided with a vent 21a through which the air contained in the shell or Inert gases driven back by the molten metal can escape.

   Through the bypass channel 19a the anti-friction metal flows smoothly, in a uniform flow, to the support body 16, filling the space.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 between the latter and the core 18, as well as the entire shell.

   The dimensions of the space 21 are chosen such that the material filling the latter constitutes a heat accumulator serving for reheating and thanks to which the mold, after completion of the casting, remains hot enough to allow the execution of the casting. succeeding regularly.
