BREVET D'INVENTION

PATENT
The invention relates to a flexible hose for conducting liquids, and the present improvement.
The main aim is to provide an unflattering and flexible tube which is particularly suitable for the pipe .. petroleum, liquid hydrocarbons, oils and the like.
The novelty of the flexible pipe described below resides - 'in the use of a layer of cellulosic material such as cellophanes or of another substance resistant to solvents, which is protected by the internal reinforcement (metal wire wound in spiral or flexible metal tube) by interposing a fabric. This solvent resistant layer can be employed as a separate sheet or can be formed on fabric by impregnating the textile cover with a condensation product of phenol and formaldehyde in solution.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the improved method of manufacture according to the present invention, suitable lengths of coiled, spirally wound metal wires or bands, the turns at the ends of each length preferably being closer together than in the intermediate regions, are wound in sheets of one length. solvent resistant material, for example an cellulose material such as cellophane, with insertion of a protective fabric. A reinforcing fabric treated with resin or linseed oil is then applied and the whole of an outer hoop formed of a metallic wire wound in a spiral which presses the fabric and the non-layer. porous in the spaces between the turns.
However, a braid or fabric wrap can be used instead of this outer thread.
In order to prevent the longitudinal displacement of the liquid at the connecting end of the pipe a fabric seal is arranged at this end, immediately above the closely spaced turns of wire. This seal may be made of a fabric treated with linseed oil or with a phenolic resin or other polymerized synthetic resin.
To obtain a plain bore, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of the liquid passing through the pipe, it is possible to use a tubular casing on which is wound, as has just been described, the metal wire, the impregnated fabric, the impermeable sheet and external cover, as needed. This envelope can advantageously consist of a flexible metal tube, formed of rings engaged with one another.
Two embodiments of the invention have been described below by way of example and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In the flexible pipe shown in figure 1, a designates the fabric joint housed in the connecting end of the pipe, b the internal reinforcement of metal wire wound in a spiral, 2 the layer of waterproof or solvent-resistant material (cellophane ), and d the protective fabric inserted between said layer and the yarn b. The outer reinforcing fabric is visible at e and the outer wire hoop is designated f.

In the embodiment shown in figure 2, g denotes the internal tubular casing consisting of a flexible metal tube formed of h rings engaged with each other, i the protective layer inserted, as in the construction. - previous tion, between the metal tube 3 and the layer of material resistant to solvents k. On the outside of this last layer k there is a fabric treated with resin or linseed oil, which in turn is covered with a fabric impregnated with rubber n. The whole is then surrounded by a metal wire 2 ′ then by a second layer of rubberized fabric and finally by an envelope in braid or fabric q.
