La figure 1 est une vue en élévation d'une machine équipée conformément à. l'invention;
La figure 2 est une vue en plan du dispositif de la fig.l;
La figure 3 est une vue en élévation d'une variante d'exécu -tion;

tion sont dons les suivants: a) l'emploi d'une seule courroie courant toujours dans le même sens ; la seconde courroie habituelle à ce gen- re de mécanisme étant exclue; d'où. économie; b) l'emploi rationnel de moteurs électriques à la comman- de de ce genre de mécanismes,du fait de la suppression d'un appareillage électrique coûteux et délicat; les appels de courant, lors des inversions de marche, é- tant fortement diminués comparés au système !\inversion électrique du moteur, et permet d'utiliser un moteur de puissance strictement suffisante ;

Mechanism for washing and drying machines.
The present invention relates to mechanisms having the aim of mechanically producing periodic and automatic inversions of the active member (s) or of any device, such as for example the inner drum of washing machines or rotary dryers, etc. Periodic reciprocating movement is obtained starting from a rotating shaft always rotating in the same direction, the transmission of force from this shaft, to the inverter mechanism, being done by a single belt moving on a suitable arrangement of pulleys.
The mechanisms currently in use use either; a) starting from a transmission shaft, two belts, one open and the other crossed, moving alternately and respectively on the receiving pulley which transmits the movement, involved by each of the belts, to or to active organs. Under these conditions, the receiving pulley turns a few turns in one direction, then a few turns in the other.

meaning; this device therefore necessarily requires two belts; b) starting from an electric motor shaft, whether or not fixed to the device, this motor rotating automatically and periodically in both directions by means of suitable electrical equipment.
The two aforementioned processes have notable drawbacks, including the need for two belts and the use of expensive electrical equipment, which is subject to numerous hazards, respectively.
According to the present invention, a simplification is systematically achieved and a certain operation of the device is ensured while at the same time achieving an operating economy due to the high mechanical efficiency of the proposed new device.
On the other hand, the cost of running the device is also significantly reduced.
However, starting from a single belt forming a single transmission element between the motor means and the active receiving member of the machine, it is possible to present various embodiments all starting from an equivalent principle.
In order to make the essential characteristics of the invention clearly understood, two embodiments are described in detail below and shown diagrammatically in the appended figures, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a machine equipped in accordance with. invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device of fig.l;
FIG. 3 is an elevational view of an alternative embodiment;
Figure 4 is a plan view of the device of fig.3.

According to Figures 1 and 2, use is made of a single belt 1, open or endless, moving automatically and periodically on each of the end pulleys of a group of three pulleys, 2, 3, 4, while driving still the pulley 3, in the middle, the latter controlling a known mechanism are used for the transverse displacement of the belt.
The pulley 8 is clevetée on the shaft and drives a pinion 5 wedged on the same shaft. This pinion 5 controls a set of two pinions 6 and 7, engaging a large toothed wheel 9. The latter constitutes the receiving member whose direction of rotation should be regularly and automatically reversed. For this purpose, when the belt is placed on the right pulley 2, said receiving member 9 rotates in a determined direction; when the same belt is moved on the left pulley 4, the toothed pigeon 8, wedged on the same axis as this pulley and in engagement with the same receiving member 9, will make the latter turn in the opposite direction with respect to the previous movement. This inversion is thus repeated successively, creating the desired reciprocating movement, with the intervention of the single belt 1.
Following the examples of Figures 3 and 4, use is also made of a single belt 14, open or endless, moving on the four pulleys 10, 11, 12. 13. The groups of pulleys 10, 11 and 12, 13 always turn in the opposite direction.
The pinions 15 and 16, respectively wedged on the same axes as the pulleys 2 and 3, therefore always turn in the opposite direction. The pulleys 10 and 13 are idle, the pulley 10 controls a known mechanism for automatically moving the belt 14.
The pestles 15 and 16 are constantly engaged with the receiving member 17, the direction of rotation of which must be reversed periodically and automatically.
It is clear that, depending on whether the belt is on the pulley 11 or 12, the receiving member will turn in one or the other direction. The main advantages of the present invention
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The following are included: a) the use of a single belt always running in the same direction; the second belt customary for this type of mechanism being excluded; from where. economy; b) the rational use of electric motors to control this type of mechanism, owing to the elimination of expensive and delicate electrical equipment; the inrushes of current, during reverse operations, being greatly reduced compared to the electric motor reversal system, and allows the use of a motor of strictly sufficient power;
also allows the use of a normal commercial engine, * c) the transmission being done by means of a belt, this system fully enjoys the properties of this type of transmission; during inversions, brutalization of the organs is excluded because of the elasticity; d) operation is absolutely silent, elastic and vibration-free; e) the whole mechanism is very robust and simple.
The present invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described, but extends to any embodiment falling within the spirit or the scope of the following claims:
