<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

CARBURETOR FOR SUPPLYING EXPLOSION ENGINES USING LOW VOLATILE FUEL
The invention relates to a carburetor capable of supplying internal combustion engines with the aid of a fuel with low volatility, which may even be added with water, such as 80% hydrated alcohol; this carburetor also ensuring the cold start.
This carburetor makes it possible to obtain a very homogeneous fuel mixture thanks to a very special atomization of the fuel. Cold start is ensured by heating an electric resistor operating using the vehicle's accumulators.

cule, if the motor is a traction motor, or a fixed battery if the motor is fixed.
To make the invention fully understood, it will be described more particularly with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of the carburetor assembly; Figure 2 is a plan view of the spray device and the constant level tank.
The carburetor first of all comprises a tank forming capacity 1 constantly supplied by a constant level tank 2, provided in the usual way with a float 3 acting on a needle device 30 controlling the arrival of the fuel liquid. via connection 31.
The tank 1 is crossed by two sprayers 4 and 5,
Sprayer 4 is only used for starting and when the engine is idling. This sprayer is constituted as represented by a calibrated tube 6 intended for the inlet of the combustion air and which is extended by a kind of plate 7 on which are mounted one or more calibrated tubes 8, inclined towards the axis. tube 6, and through which the fuel comes out. The tube 6 is mounted with gentle friction in a sheath 9 extending the lower partition of the tank 1 and joined at its upper end to a boss 10 integral with the upper partition of the tank 1 and in which are formed conduits II serving for the outlet of the fuel liquid to be sucked through the calibrated tubes 8.
The plate 7 carrying the calibrated tubes 8 rests on the top of the boss 10 and is extended by a cylindrical edge 12 surrounding the said boss so as to be able to turn on the latter using any control.
The calibrated tubes 8, interchangeable to allow adjustment, open out at their lower part facing the inlet conduits 11 drilled in the boss 10 of the tank 1. The sealing

of the sprayer 5 is ensured by the perfect contact of the plate 7 with the boss 10. The contact being ensured by Inaction CI 'a return spring 13 surrounding the tube 6 and bearing on the lower wall of the tank 1; the pressure can be adjusted by a nut
14.
As we have said, the assembly formed by the sprayer can rotate around its axis, so as to allow the calibrated tubes
8 to stand in front of the fuel inlet holes 11 or to move away from them.
Some of the calibrated tubes 8 may thus be clogged depending on whether more or less fuel is to be admitted for cold starting or normal idling.
The central tube 6 of the sprayer 4 can be provided with linings making it possible to reduce the entry of air for the metering of the fuel mixture.
The sprayer 5 is used to ensure normal operation. It consists of a cylindrical part 15 provided with a calibrated central duct 16 whose diameter can be reduced by inserting one or more furring strips 17 of varying thickness. In the thickness of the part 15 and suitably arranged around the central duct 16 are drilled a series of smaller diameter ducts 18 also calibrated; the number of these conduits 18 being able to vary according to the power of the motor to be supplied.
Above each of the conduits 18 are inserted, by screwing into an annular extension 20 of the part 15, nozzles 19 inclined towards the center and intended to supply the fuel in a quantity also determined by the power of the engine to be supplied. The annular part 20 of the sprayer rests on the reservoir 1 by jingling the middle of a seal and is clamped on the lower part of the latter by a nut 21 also with the interposition of a seal.
The whole formed by the tank. constant level 2 and the tank 1 carrying the sprayers 4-5 is used by a bell 22
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
on which is mounted the inlet connector 31 of the carburetor and its needle device 30. In this bell 22 are formed two tubes, one central 23 is located in the axis of the sprayer 5, while the other 24 slightly inclined from the sprayer 4 to emerge in the pipe 23 slightly above the control valve 25 of the fuel mixture. The bell 22 ends with a flange 26 for its attachment to the motor to be supplied.
As will be noted, the adjusting butterfly valve 25 placed in the central pipe 23 does not block the pipe 24 corresponding to the sprayer 4 used for the start and for the idling period.
Above the butterfly 25 and in the central tube 23 is mounted an electrical resistance 32 carried by a plate 27 screwed onto the tube. A second electrical resistance 28 also carried by a plate 29 is screwed onto the idle tube 24.
The resistors 33 and 28 are supplied by a battery of accumulators (that of the vehicle in the case of a traction motor), and serve either to strongly heat the "atomized air-fuel" mixture arriving in the pipe 23, or in spraying part of it into the pipe 24 to ensure the cold start. These resistances are calculated so as to release a suitable temperature which is set according to the nature of the fuel.
The operation is as follows:
Before the engine is started, the electric current from the battery is started through one or the other of resistors 32-28 (or both at the same time, if the temperature is very severe), for a few seconds.
As soon as the resistors are hot enough, the engine is started. During the suction period, this creates a strong depression in the starting pipe 24 under the action of the fuel coming out of the tubes 8 of the sprayer 4 placed in the position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
“departure” option, that is to say having all its tubes 8 in the flow position, that is to say placed opposite the conduits or holes 11 serving for the passage of fuel.
The carburetor is thus sprayed immediately by the air entering at high speed through the central calibrated tube 6. By its contact with the resistors 28-32, the fuel mixture heats up and vaporizes in part to ensure the starting of the engine. Then, as soon as the engine has reached a sufficient temperature allowing a fairly slow idling speed, the starting sprayer 4 is acted on so as to rotate its plate 7 on the boss 10 so as to partially intercept the communication of conduits 11 with the calibrated tubes 8 and leave only a small number of them in action.
,
As soon as the throttle 25 is open, the vacuum acts immediately in the central pipe 23 and consequently on the sprayer 5, the nozzles 19 of which instantly deliver fuel, The air, also entering at high speed into the pipe 23 Through the conduits 18 opening under each nozzle 19, the fuel is thus sprayed which then mixes with an additional quantity of air, entering in turn into the tubing via the eemtral conduit 16 to finally give a perfectly homogeneous mixture suitable for the fuel. perfect combustion in the cylinders of the engine.
It is obvious that the carburettor described above could be constructed with horizontal or vertical tubing to allow its adaptation to all types of engine.
This carburetor can be applied in a very general way and particularly allows the use of very diverse fuels of low volatility, without requiring any modification of the engine on which it is mounted, either to obtain an economical operation, or even to produce a highly combustible gas. antiknock then allowing a strong over-compression of the engines, or again for all other reasons.
