 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   PATENT OF INVENTION "METHOD OF MANUFACTURING AN ENGINE FUEL FROM COKE OVEN GAS OR OTHER INDUSTRIAL GASES"
Liquefiable fuels for engines at normal temperature are obtained, only by application of pressure, from industrial gases, such as coke oven gas or similar gases by separating working gases, suitable parts, by adsorption or again using washing agents or other industrial means, under suitable temperature and pressure conditions.

  It was found that in this case, the products obtained were not immediately suitable for the operation of internal combustion engines, because, due to their content of substance forming resins, they tend to deposit resin on the rods of valves and other parts of engines. However, it has been observed according to the present invention, that the bodies forming resins

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 are contained in the more difficult volatile parts of the separated hydrogen carbides and which can only be used as motor fuels those products from which a high boiling part has been removed from this gas mixture, which can only be liquefied under pressure at normal temperature.

   The invention will be explained in more detail with the aid of a few examples of particular importance in practice.

   When recovering hydrogen carbides from coke oven gases or other industrial gases, by adsorption on activated carbon or similar adsorption material, functioning as activated carbon, such as, for example, silica gel, it occurs, for example, when discharging the adsorption agent, after cooling of the discharged gas, in addition to the liquid phase - which contains the condensed water vapor and liquid hydrogen carbides, such that, for example, benzol and its homologues - a gas phase which consists of gaseous hydrogen carbides under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure.

   By subsequently treating the gaseous phase to give a liquefiable motor fuel at normal temperature only by applying pressure, however, by compression and / or strong cooling, products are obtained which are not directly suitable, for the reasons given above, for operation. of internal combustion engines., In accordance with the present invention, the gaseous phase obtained during the discharge is therefore treated in such a way that, during the liquefaction in stages by compression or strong cooling, the hydrogen carbides are separated

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 hardly volatile which condense first. It has been found that upon compression, at about 3 to 6 Atm of the discharged gas mixture, a liquid product is obtained which contains virtually all of the resin forming bodies.

   In accordance with the invention, this product must be removed separately and only what remains gaseous above 6 Atm, to a final pressure of 30 Atm, is compressed to obtain a liquefied driving gas.

   In the treatment of the liquefiable gas mixture, obtained from coke oven gas, it separates, in the first compression stage (3 to 6 Atm), approximately 8 to 10% by weight, of the hydrogen carbides reported to the total quantity of engine gas. To increase the output of engine gas, we can optionally partially expand this liquid which condenses to 3 to 6 Atm and return the gases to the compressor because they hardly contain any substance forming resins while the residue, because of its content in materials capable of reacting, can be used as raw material for obtaining resins or other products. For example, by treatment with about 1% aluminum chloride, 20-30% and more of a wax-like resin is obtained.

   As the temperature which occurs during compression can cause resinification of the bodies giving the resin, contained in the gases, it is still possible to proceed by first separating, in liquid form, by strong cooling, the part containing the bodies giving the resin. resin, after which the gaseous material can be liquefied by continuing to cool or by applying pressure and cold.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   In the case of separated gases, other than those from a coke oven, the quantity ratios of the fractions to be separated as well as the pressures and temperatures to be applied, to the nature of the gas and to the quantity of body giving resins it contains.

   It is also possible to proceed in any other suitable manner, optionally already in the preceding operations, such as in adsorption or discharge, with the elimination of the hardly volatile constituents of these liquefiable gases only under pressure at normal temperature.
