 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Conformément à l'invention,la pièce de contact mobile c peut affecter des profils variés et être en une seule ou en plusieurs parties, elle présente à la base un   évidement .0.'   en relation avec la face supérieure par un orifice 0 approprié; au moment de la coupure, par suite du mouvement de la pièce de contact moblie c suivant la flèche f, le liquide se trouvant sous cette pièce pénètre dans l'évidement c', jaillit par   l' orifice   0, comme représenté schématiquement par les flèches t, et se trouve projeté sur l'arc a formé entre les pièces de contact fixes d, e et mobile m en cours de séparation;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  "IMPROVEMENT IN CONTACTS FOR LIQUID SWITCHES"
There are many extinguishant liquid switches with linear contacts of the so-called compensated type. This type of construction comprises, in principle, two fixed, parallel contact parts, between which is inserted a movable contact part.

   The electrodynamic forces exerted between the two fixed contact parts counteract the effect of the repulsion forces occurring at the points of contact and, by judicious sizing of the different constituent parts, it is possible to obtain complete compensation between them. forces of attraction and repulsion of the contact parts and thus prevent their lifting under the action of the current.

   The present invention consists in giving the movable contact parts certain special constructive forms, produced in a simple manner and making it possible to increase, in notable proportions, the breaking capacity of a switch or

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 circuit breaker comprising such contact parts of the compensated type; the devices described also relate the improved devices to the class of so-called liquid jet switches.

   In the accompanying schematic drawings to which reference is made in the description which follows: FIG. i shows, by way of example, a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention and will explain the scope thereof. figs. 2 to 5 show variants, also in perspective.

   In fig. 1, d and e denote two fixed linear contact parts and c a movable contact part moving along the arrow. when the switch is triggered.

   According to the invention, the movable contact piece c can affect various profiles and be in one or more parts, it has at the base a recess .0. ' in connection with the upper face by a suitable orifice 0; at the time of the cut, as a result of the movement of the moblie contact part c following the arrow f, the liquid located under this part enters the recess c ', spouts out through the orifice 0, as shown schematically by the arrows t, and is projected onto the arc a formed between the fixed contact parts d, e and mobile m during separation;

The movable contact piece g, is designed so that the sections of passage of the liquid in the recess c ', following planes perpendicular to the direction of movement, tapering upwards, so that the speed of the threads of extinguishant liquid grows from the moment when the base or a determined part of the movable contact part c meets these streams of liquid until the moment when these same streams exit through the orifice 0, heading towards the place of separation contacts.

   When the switch is triggered, the part

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 movable contact c having thus been produced, the oil or the extinguishing fluid passes at a satisfactory speed through the orifice 0 and promotes the extinction of the arc. Throughout the duration of the movement of the movable contact part c, the extinguishing fluid thus injected into the surfaces concerned by the arc is fresh since it is taken outside the space where the products of the arc develop.

   The movable contact part c, shown in fig. 1, has a trapezoidal section extended at the lower part by parallel sides.

   This movable contact part can also be constituted, in particular in the case of double phase break switches, by an inverted V-shaped profile closed at both ends, as shown in FIG. 2, which offers a sec-. decrease from bottom to top, so as to obtain the desired effect of increasing the speed of the streams of extinguishant liquid.

   It is naturally permissible, without departing from the scope of the present invention, to produce other variants having the same characteristics; in particular, the movable contact can be constituted, as shown in fig. 3, by two side dishes 1 fixed on supports a, s' of suitable shape and between which a space is provided.

   Similar effects, although less pronounced, are obtained even if the hermeticity is not achieved at the ends; such is for example the construction according to FIGS. 4 and 5, which correspond respectively to FIGS. 2 and 3.
