<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
L'écrou I est pourvu d'oreilles.

FITTING FOR PIPES.
The present invention relates to three-piece fittings for pipes. It refers more particularly to those of these fittings, a part of which, integral with one of the pipes, has a groove which serves as a housing for an annular seal, on which a lip formed by the part integral with the other rests. pipe.
According to the invention, the internal wall of the joint 10gement is given a sufficiently small thickness so that this wall can flex under the effect of the pressure prevailing in the pipes, and exert a lateral thrust on the joint which reinforces the pressure. sealing.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of a connector according to the invention.
Fig. I shows, in section by the axis, the first of these forms.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 2 likewise shows the second.
According to fig. I, nut I brings together the other two parts 2 and 3 of the fitting, welded or screwed, each on one of the pipes 4 and 5. Part 2, on which the nut I is threaded, forms, on its end face, an annular lip 6, of rounded section. This lip is supported by the nut against an annular seal 7, housed in a groove of the end face of part 3, onto which the nut I is screwed.
The thickness of the internal wall 8 of the housing of the seal 7 is sufficiently small so that this wall can flex under the effect of the pressure which prevails in the pipes in service. It is however large enough so that the material of this wall does not not exceed its elastic limit.
The particular tightness of the fitting thus formed results on the one hand from the compression of the seal 7 by the lip 6 and on the other hand from the radial force exerted on the thin wall 8.
As an indication, in a mild steel fitting, intended to join pipes of 30 m / m in internal diameter, the wall 8 has a thickness of about 2 m / m. Such a connection was able to remain sealed under a hydraulic pressure exceeding 100 kg / cm2.
According to fig. 2, the two parts 2 and 3 of the fitting are fixed to the pipes 4 and 5 by means of flanges 9.
Nut I is provided with ears. The connector contains a protective fur 10, consisting of a simple section of independent tube which is replaced after wear.
An assembly is thus produced which lends itself to rapid dismantling of the tube elements and the use of which is particularly advantageous in hydraulic backfill installations, where dismantling is frequent and the pipes wear out rapidly.
The expensive part which is the connection is effectively protected there.
