 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   Si

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

  Adjustment device for filling devices with
 EMI1.1
 -------------------------------------------------- --- against pressure.

   The present invention relates to a back-pressure filling apparatus for bottles and the like, which has two separate back-pressure tanks. The first reservoir contains the liquid to be transferred and over it compressed air, carbonic acid or a similar gas with which the cylinder to be filled is put under the same pressure, before the start of filling, as that prevailing in the first tank.

  The second reservoir serves to receive the compressed air flowing back from the bottle during filling.

   The mode of operation in principle of such an apparatus will be explained with the aid of the accompanying drawing.

   The bottle 1 to be filled is pressed firmly in a known manner against the filling element 2 and is thus separated from the outside air. Filling elements

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 2 are arranged near the periphery of the round tank of the filler, which tank consists of a middle tank 3 and an annular tank 4. The tank 3 can be called the front liquid or air tank, the tank 4 the return air tank.

   During the slow rotation of the tank around its central axis, the filling elements 2 are controlled in such a way that first compressed air or carbonic acid coming from the front air tank 3 through the front air hose 5 is introduced into the bottle until a pressure equilibrium is established between the bottle 1 and the tank 3. Then the liquid supply opens, which is not specially shown in the drawing, for the filling element 2. and the return air tube 6 also opens. The liquid flows from the reservoir 3 by its own weight into the bottle while the return air flows back into the annular reservoir 4. After the filling is completed, the liquid has risen in the tube 6 to the same height. that the liquid level in the reservoir 3.

   After filling the bottle, the filling element 2 is closed, the filled bottle is removed and a new bottle is put in place and pressed again against the filling element 2. As after closing the filling element. filling and after the completion of the filling, the part of the liquid which has risen in the return air tube 6 remains, when the liquid to be filled again arrives, this liquid residue is projected upwards in the tube of return air and collects in the annular reservoir 4. At certain intervals, this accumulated return liquid is discharged from the reservoir 4.

   The front air tank 6 and the return air tank 4 are separated from each other by the ring seal 7. So that the bottles are filled quietly and without foam, it is necessary

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 Note that in the front air reservoir 3 and in the return aid reservoir there is constantly approximately the same pressure. In addition, it must be ensured that the compressed air or carbon dioxide flowing from the front air tank 3 to the cylinder is constantly replaced. For this purpose, a sleeve 9 with supply openings 10 which serves to hold the tube 11 of the liquid supply has been arranged, for example, in the middle of the cap 8 of the tank.

   This mode of operation, known per se of the counter-pressure filling apparatus, with separate reservoirs of front air and return air, is however only possible by the fact that in both reservoirs a pressure approximately identical is constantly maintained and the return air is evacuated from the reservoir 4 without too great pressure variations occurring. In order to achieve this result, the filling apparatus is provided, according to the present invention, with an automatically operating adjustment device, which at the same time allows a certain overpressure to be achieved in the reservoir! return air relative to the front air tank 3, to adjust the flow speed of the liquid to be withdrawn from the tank 3 into the bottle 1.

   The new device consists of a closed container 12 which is disposed below the vessel of the apparatus and is in communication through line 15 with the upper part of the front air reservoir 3 and through line 14 with the part. top of the return air tank 4.

  In the container 12, a bell 15, open from the bottom, is suspended by means of a tape 16 from a fixed roller 17 and is balanced by a counterweight 18. This bell 15 forms a liquid closure between the air reservoir d. 'front and the return air tank 4 and controls by the lever 19, which turns on the pivot 80, the exhaust valve 21.

  The connecting pipe 13 advances sufficiently from the bottom

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 far into the bell so that it protrudes above the level of the sealing liquid.

   If at the start of operation, the reservoir 3 is filled with liquid and then put back pressure, this back pressure acts through the pipe 13, the container 12 and the line 14 on the return air reservoir 4. The compressed air from the reservoir enters under the bell 15 through the liquid closure formed by the latter, until the back pressure is reached also in the reservoir 4. This back pressure is relative to the pressure in the tank. tank 5 only smaller as the level of the liquid under the bell 15 drops relative to the level of the liquid in the container 12.

   The bell 15 and the counterweight 18 are balanced in such a way with respect to one another that for the same pressure in the reservoirs 3 and 4, the discharge valve 21 is opened under the influence of the lever 19 (see fig. 1) As soon as the filling device is in operation and compressed air constantly flows from the filling bottle 1 into the air / return tank 4, the pressure in this tank rises and propagates into the container 12 it then occurs in the container 12 relative to the reservoir !! a small overpressure which, in the highest case, can become as great as what corresponds to the highest level of liquid under bell 15 compared to the lowest level of liquid in vessel 12.

   By the overpressure in the container 12, an additional pressure is then exerted on the surface of the bell 15 by which the bell 15 is forced somewhat downwards and the lever 19 is actuated in such a way that it opens the valve. outlet 21 (fig. 2).

   As a result, the pressure drops in the container 12 and, consequently, in the return air tank 4.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 until under the influence of the counterweight 18 and the air pressure in the tank 3, the bell 15 rises again and the discharge valve 21 closes. The bell 15 therefore acts constantly on the discharge valve 21 and regulates the discharge of the return air from the tank.

   So that in any case return air cannot return from the tank 4 through the container 12 into the front air tank 3 the bell 15 can be balanced in such a way by the counterweight 18 that it can never occur in the container 12 relative to the reservoir 3 a greater back pressure than what corresponds to the difference of the level of liquid falling in the container 12 compared to the level of liquid rising under the bell 15. A very minimal overpressure in the return air reservoir! or in the container 12 with respect to the pressure in the front air tank 3 must therefore already be sufficient to produce the opening of the discharge valve 21 to a sufficient extent.

   As during operation of the filling apparatus for fresh compressed air, carbonic acid gas or the like can be constantly supplied to the front air tank 3, this air entering through the cylinders. and escaping again through the return air tank 4 so that there is a permanent flow of air or gas through the exhaust valve 21.

   the latter can also be established in such a way that through a fine side hole, even for the closed position of the discharge valve, a certain quantity of gas escapes which can however be chosen sufficiently minimal so that when the valve 21 is closed, there always occurs a moderate build-up of pressure in the vessel 12 or in the return air reservoir 4 and the adjustment by the bell 15 extends only to a further opening of the evaouatioh valve. We can, in this way, limit the work

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 adjustment of the discharge valve and ensure high uniformity of the air discharge.

   The mentioned auxiliary opening can also be set up as an independent discharge device, either on the return air tank 4, or on the connecting line 14, or on the container 12 with a valve stem movable by hand.

   It is also within the scope of the present invention to shape the bell 15 with the counterweight 18, in combination with the discharge valve 21, such that for a relatively large stroke movement of the bell 15 it occurs. a progressive widening or narrowing of the discharge opening of the valve 21, to avoid rapid pressure variations.

   It also comes within the scope of the present invention, to establish the discharge valve 21. according to FIGS. 3 and 4, in such a way that in a cylindrical passage sleeve 22 there is arranged a cylindrical shutter body 23, freely guided, which has one or more recesses 24 which widen downwards and is controlled by the lever 19 using the bell 15.

   It is possible by the lever 19 to increase or decrease at will the stroke movement of the discharge valve relative to the stroke movement of the bell 15.

  It is also possible, by the shape and size of the bell 15, to make the pressure adjustment more or less sensitive.

  In the case of a large diameter of the bell 15, a very small overpressure in the container 12 and in the return air tank 4 will be sufficient to open the discharge valve 21. while in the case of a smaller one. diameter of the bell 15, a greater pressure difference is required for the running movement. In the end, it is also possible to influence the balancing between the bell 15 and the counterweight 18 from the outside using simple devices.

   Yes

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 for example, the cylindrical closure body 23 is provided, at the lower part, with an extension 25 in the form of an eyelet in which engages a leaf spring 27 fixed to the rod 26 of the screw, and if the threaded rod 26 is movably guided upwards and downwards in an extension 28 of the container body 12, by a thread and a lock nut 29, it is possible to exert upwards and downwards by the spring to blade 27 on the cylindrical shutter body 23, in the axial direction, a slight pressure so that the action of the bell 15 is influenced in one or the other direction.

  During operation, it is then possible to regulate with precision the overpressure in the return air tank 4 for which the discharge valve completely closes or in any case generally throttles an air discharge. A possibility of displacement of the discharge valve 21 during operation is for example also achievable by the fact that by eliminating the counterweight 18, the bell 15 is suspended directly from the lid of the container 12 with the interposition of a spring in helix and that this helical spring is raised and lowered in a known manner, by an adjustment screw in the lid of the container 12.

   This latter arrangement allows a particularly simple implementation of the idea of the invention when, as has been shown for example in FIG. 5, the upper part of the bell 15 is established with the lid of the container 12 as the discharge valve. The lid of the container 12 receives an extension 30 in which the pivot 31 of the bell 15 is guided with gentle friction. The bell 15 is connected to the pivot SI by means of the helical spring 32 with the adjusting screw 33 by which the bell 15 can be raised or lowered at will from the outside.

   The extension 30 of the container cover is provided,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 at the bottom, one or more holes 34, which may be at the same height or at different heights. The pivot 31 has a transverse hole 35 and a longitudinal hole 36 which are so arranged that the compressed air in the container 12 or in the return air reservoir 4 can enter the cavity of the extension 30 If the pressure rises in the container 12, the bell 15 is drawn downwards and thereby the outlet of the compressed air through the cylindrical holes 34 is released.

   As the pressure in the receptacle 12 or in the reservoir 4 decreases, the bell 15 is again drawn upwards under the action of the helical spring 32 and consequently the evacuation of the air. compressed by the openings 34 is constricted or closed completely.

  The arrangement shown provides simple, shock-free adjustment for the discharge of excess return air.

   Provision has been made in FIG. 1 that the container 12 with the built-in adjustment device is mounted on the rotating work table of the filling apparatus. If it is feared that for some reason, as a result of the uneven movement of the table of the filling apparatus, the adjustment device will be adversely affected and cannot be faultlessly tuned during operation, the container 12 with the assembly of the adjustment device will, according to the present invention, mounted outside the rotating device, on a fixed base.

   In this case the connecting pipes 13 and 14 which lead to the front air tank 3 or to the return air tank 4 must be placed in communication with a rotary slide of known construction which is housed in the central axis. of the filling device and allows a simple and certain connection between the rotary front air and return air reservoirs, on the one hand, and the container 12, on the other hand.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

   If in the arrangement of fig. 5, the weight of the bell 15 must be balanced against the helical spring 32 or be unloaded, this can be done in a known manner, for example by counterweights.
