Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

  "Device balancing by springs the weight of sliding windows, in particular those for vehicles".

   The present invention relates to a sliding window balancer, especially for vehicles, comprising at least a spring whose band varies according to the height position of the glass but whose vertical component of this band, applied to the ice by the 'intermediary of a mechanism, remains constant.

   There are balancers of this kind in which the constancy of the said component, despite the variation of the band of the springs, is obtained by a mechanism which makes the glass rest on symmetrical fixed guides, of suitable shape, for example parabolic, by the intermediary of a variable-length spring assembly, provided with the necessary rolling rollers and movable both with respect to the ice and to said guides.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The object of the present invention is to produce a balancer of simpler construction.

   To this end, in a balancer according to the invention, the crystal rests by means of members fixed relative to it, on two symmetrical guides suspended from horizontal pivots and on which the aforesaid springs act, said guides having a shape such that at each point the vertical component of the action of the springs brought back to the point considered is constant and equal to half the weight of the ice.

   The present invention further provides for special arrangements allowing the value of the constant reaction of the mechanism on the ice to be modified within certain limits to take account of the slight differences in weight which may exist between the actual weight and the theoretical weight of the ice. to balance.

   To this end, in the case where the springs work in traction or in compression on the pivoting guides, the distance between the pivot of each guide and the point of application of the action of the springs is adjustable.

   In particular, it is advantageous to make the pivots of the position guides adjustable relative to the latter.

   The object of the invention is also a particularly advantageous embodiment in the case where the windows are narrow.

   In this case, the pivoting guides are mounted close to one another, so as to be able to simultaneously support the same support member for the ice. The pivot guides are biased towards each other, preferably, by a spring working in flexion.

   Particular provisions are also provided in this case to allow acts at will separately or simultaneously on the strip and on the lever arm of the spring.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto and which represent schematically, and by way of example only, some embodiments of the invention.

   Figure 1 is an elevational view of a balancer according to the invention applied to a movable glass capable of itself ensuring the complete closure of the bay.

   Figure 2 is an elevational view of a balancer according to the invention applied to a movable glass capable of ensuring the closure of only the upper half of the bay, the lower half being closed, for example, by a fixed glass.

   Figure 3 is an elevational view of a balancer according to the invention applied in the hypothesis of Figure 1 but in the case of a narrow bay.

   Figures 4 and 5 are views in false perspective of two guide suspension mechanisms allowing, in the case of devices according to Figures 1 and 2, the adjustment by changing the ratio of the levers of the mechanism.

   Figure 6 is, on a larger scale, a horizontal section along the line VI - VI in the apparatus shown in Figure 3.

   FIG. 7 is a false perspective view of a part for supporting the spring on one of the guides of the apparatus of FIGS. 3 and 6, this part being able to be used for adjusting the band of the spring and the ratio of the levers.

   Figures 8, 9 and 10 schematically show three variant embodiments of the invention.

   In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.

   In Figure 1, we see a window 1 in which is disposed a sliding glass 2; this is armed at its lower edge by a metal yoke 3 to which are

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 fixed two pieces 4orting each a roller 5. These rollers are arranged symmetrically with respect to / instead of the ice and are relatively distant from it.

   These rollers constitute a support member rolling the ice on two support guides 6, arranged in the plane of these rollers and symmetrically.

   These guides are suspended and articulated at their upper end to pivots 7 integral with the window opening.

   Their inner edges are kept applied against the ice support rollers 5 by the tensile force exerted by a set of springs 8 which connects the lower ends 9 of these guides.

   It can be seen, from the general shape of the edge of the guides on which the rollers rest, that any downward movement of the ice causes a symmetrical rotation of the guides around the pivots 7, which separates them and increases the band of the springs 8 while any lifting movement of the window causes under the force of the springs a rotation of the guides in the direction of their approach causing a reduction in the force of the springs.

   The desired balancing is achieved by giving the outline of the support edge of the guides a shape such that at each point the vertical component of the action of the springs brought back to the point considered is constant and equal to half the weight. ice.

   In the case of Figure 2, the support of the ice on the guides is not done directly as in the case of Figure 1 but indirectly via a bar 10 integral with the uprights on which the glass is fixed .

  The entire balancing mechanism is placed under the glass and in its plane, and the bar is made up of two twin pieces placed on either side of the support guides.

   It is obvious that in the case of figure 1, we could

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 also place the entire balancing mechanism in the plane of the mirror and below it, constituting it symmetrically with respect to this plane and by doubling the support guides and the support rollers.

   The two devices described also include an adjustment device making it possible to modify the initial band of the springs. It consists, for example, of a sliding tie rod with tightening nut. This part can obviously be replaced by a screw tensioner or any other equivalent device.

   Another means of adjusting the apparatus consists, according to the invention, in modifying the ratio of the arms of the levers constituted by the movable guides - by moving the fulcrum of the upper ends of these guides vertically.
To this end, the suspension and articulation pivot 7 shown schematically in Figs 1 and 2 is constituted for example as shown in Figure 4.

   The upper end of the guide 6 is provided with a heel 11 fixed on this guide and the lower edge 12 of which is of small width and rests on a plate 13 forming the bottom of a case such as 13 'fixed under the threshold of the bay so as to support the glass and the appliance.

   The horizontal reaction of the end of the guide due to the action of the springs 8 exerted at the opposite end 9 is applied against the edge 14 of a thin horizontal stop piece 15 housed in the housing 13 'and whose position in height can be adjusted by means of a part such as 16 screwed into the bottom of the case and provided at its upper part with a groove 17 enclosing the stop part 15 and thus fixing its position. For ease of assembly, this stop piece is provided with a groove 18 allowing it to be engaged in the groove of the head of the piece 16.

   It is obvious that during displacements with the rotation

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 of the support guides resulting from the operation of the device, slight friction occurs between the two edges on their respective supports.

   To reduce this friction, it is possible to provide the vertical support for the guide in the housing by means of a pivot 19 (FIG. 5) and two rollers such as 20 rolling on the bottom 13 of the housing 13 'and replacing the heel 11. of the arrangement of figure 4.

   The embodiments of Figures 1 and 2 can obviously be suitable only in the case of sufficiently wide bays.

   In the event of narrow bays, such as those of railway doors, for example, it is necessary to reduce the overall width of the device, this reduction is, according to the invention, carried out by the device of Figure 3.

   In these, the pivots 7 of the guides are coincident as well as the pivots of the support rollers 5 and the coil springs 8 are replaced for example by a spring such as 21 working in bending.

   In order to avoid the bending forces of the shaft of the rollers, one of the guides is formed by means of two flanges 6 '(figure 6) paired placed symmetrically with respect to the other guide 6 and the roller d is also symmetrically doubled. 'support 5' of the double guide 6 '. The rollers 5 'can rotate freely with respect to the roller 5.

   In order to allow the adjustment by separate or simultaneous modification of the band of the spring and of the ratio of the levers, it is provided, according to the invention, that the two support ends of the spring are shaped like a knife so that they can be fixed in notches 22 and 22 'of the outer edges of the guides.

   The notches 22 are hollowed out directly in a part

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 straight line of the single guide 6, while the notches 22 'are formed in a part 23 (FIGS. 6 and 7), the position of which is adjustable with respect to the double guide 6'.

   This part 23 comprises an appendage 24 which engages between the two flanges of the double guide 6 'and two rectilinear heels 25 intended to bear against two straight parts of the flanges which, in the position corresponding to the lighted ice, are parallel to the straight part in which the notches 22 are provided.

   This part 23 has a flat face 26 oblique with respect to the bearing plane of the heels, in which the notches 22 'corresponding to those of the edge of the simple guide 6 are formed.

   The appendix 24 of the part 23 is drilled with a series of holes 27 which allow, thanks to corresponding holes 28 drilled in the flanges and a pin 29, to immobilize the part 23 in its support guide at the suitable height .

   It can be seen that as a result of the inclination of the face 26 with respect to / the direction of movement of the part 23, at any movement of the latter, which does not modify the height position of the spring 21 with respect to the whole of the apparatus, corresponds to a modification of the opening and, consequently, of the spring band and that, on the other hand, any displacement in height of the position of the spring modifies the ratio of the levers of the mechanism. It can also be seen that so that a movement of the spring does not modify, at the same time, the band thereof, it suffices to make the part 23 participate in the movement of the spring.

   The balancing device according to the invention could obviously be produced in many different ways; it is thus that one could, as represented in FIG. 8, place the guides 6 so as to make the spring 8 act in compression instead of making it act in extension, that

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 one could also, as shown in Figure 9, maintaining for the guides 6 the same position as in Figure 8, replace the spring 8 working in compression by two half-springs 8 'each fixed to the fixed upright. laying the bay and working in traction and that one could also, as in the case of figure 10, replace the spring 21 of figure 3 by two half-springs 21 'acting for example vertically and at the traction,

   fixed at one end to the upright of the bay and at the other end to a horizontal arm of the corresponding guide, this fixing being able to be done at different determined points, for example. by notches 22 so as to allow adjustment by modifying the distance between the guide pivot and the point of application of the spring force.

   It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiments shown and that many modifications could be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of certain elements involved in the realization of the invention without get out of the scope of the beevet.
