<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
appliquée aux rasoirs dits de sûreté; Fig.3 montre une variante en coupe longitudinale; Figs.4 et 5 montrent, respectivement en coupe longitudinale et .en coupe partielle, deux autres réalisations; Fig.6 est une coupe longitudinale d'une autre variante;
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>
<EMI ID=11.1>
<EMI ID=12.1>
<EMI ID=13.1>
<EMI ID=14.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>
<EMI ID=16.1>
<EMI ID=18.1>
<EMI ID=19.1>
<EMI ID=20.1>

IMPROVEMENTS TO SHARP INSTRUMENTS, IN PARTICULAR
IN RAZORS, ESPECIALLY FOR SAFETY.
The invention relates to sharp instruments, and relates more especially, but not exclusively, to razors, in particular so-called safety razors.
Its main purpose is to improve these instruments, so
that they respond better than hitherto to their conditions of employment *.
We know that for the cutting of certain materials,
especially the sectioning of hairs, the cutting action is more
perfect, and in particular less irritating to the epidermis, when the
blade, or in any case its edge is moistened with a liquid.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
per periodically, more or less frequently, his instrument in a
appropriate liquid, which is not only a suggestion but
still leads to fluid consumption which is actually a lot
more important than necessary.
The invention overcomes these drawbacks.
To this end, it consists mainly of providing,
combination with the instruments of the genre in question, means
<EMI ID = 2.1>
edge or edges of this blade, an ingredient, and in particular an <EMI ID = 3.1>
suitable liquid to improve or facilitate the cutting operation, or
prevent skin irritation, or both.
It also consists in arranging these means so that they can be carried by the instrument, and better form part of it.
It also consists in making them such that the supply of the ingredient or liquid to the blade is intermittent, or continuous, and can also be modified at the discretion of the operator.
<EMI ID = 4.1>
Ticks set out above can be practically produced, certain preferred arrangements and arrangements will be described below in more detail, given by way of examples, of course not limiting, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which the invention is illustrated in its application to razors.
Figs. 1 and 2 represent respectively in longitudinal section <EMI ID = 5.1>
applied to so-called safety razors; Fig.3 shows a variant in longitudinal section; Figs.4 and 5 show, respectively in longitudinal section and in partial section, two other embodiments; Fig.6 is a longitudinal section of another variant;
<EMI ID = 6.1>
omitted; Fig.8 is a side elevational view of another variant; Fig.9 is a partial longitudinal sectional view of another arrangement; Fig.lO shows, in cross section, the application of the invention to common type razors.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, in a razor according to the invention, there is provided, together with a support 1 for the blade 2, a comb 3 comprising the usual teeth 4 and, in combination, a capacity 5 suitable for receiving a liquid or any other more or less fluid ingredient which will be distributed to the blade 2, in particular to the cutting edges of the latter.
This distribution is effected by the spaces left free around the reference pins 6 and the fixing rod 7 of the support 1,
<EMI ID = 7.1>
which give access to the outer face of the comb, as well as through grooves or channels 8 formed on this face.
The capacity 5 is advantageously provided with an extension 9 constituting the gripping handle of the instrument, in which is fixed a means for receiving the fixing rod 7, illustrated by the usual handle 10 of a razor of this type.
Any means, for example the hollow space 11 of said handle
10, completed by openings 12, is provided for introducing liquid or other ingredient into the capacity 5 and a plug 13, for example screw, closes the introduction passage.
Although it is possible to use the instrument constituted as has just been said, it is advantageous to provide means for
<EMI ID = 8.1>
a certain pressure, suitable for determining its distribution to the blade 2 at the appropriate time.
In the example, these means are constituted by openings 14 formed in the extension 9 and each equipped with an elastic membrane, constituted in this embodiment by a rubber sleeve lo enclosing the extension 9.
In operation, capacity 5 and duct II having been filled! of liquid, or any other ingredient that you want to make
<EMI ID = 9.1>
the free passages between the pins 6 and the fixing rod 7 on the one hand and the corresponding openings of the comb on the other hand, and then the channels of the outer face of the comb, therefore wetting the cutting edge (s) of the. blade 2.
If the influx was insufficient, or did not occur as desired
operator, it would suffice for the latter to exert pressure on the membranes covering the openings 14, pressure which would be communicated to the liquid or ingredient of the capacity 5 and would cause the desired flow.
A pressure, possibly adjustable, could moreover be communicated to the liquid or ingredient by means of the stopper 13, which will suffice, for this purpose, to establish sufficient length.
It will be noted that in this case the membranes of the openings 14 can bulge more or less outwards, making the pressure communicated to the liquid by the stopper 13 more or less constant. It will be further appreciated that by giving the flow passages the right size, this flow can be made permanent and adjustable throughout the operation.
To communicate a pressure to the liquid, one could also, instead of the stopper 13, connect the instrument, by the nozzle 13 <1>, or any other nozzle, to a rubber bulb or other anpira-tion device and delivery, which would automatically introduce the liquid or ingredient and deliver it under pressure on the cutting edge (s) of the blade.
It naturally comes within the scope of the invention to arrange the elements in a way other than that indicated, and in the variant of FIG. 3, the capacity 5 and the comb 3 are established in the form of one or more distinct elements. , which can or can be engaged between the blade 2 and the usual handle 10 of the instrument.
In the example, corresponding openings 16 and 17, of appropriate dimensions, are made in the wall of the capacity 5 and in the comb 3, the openings 17 communicating in turn with the channels 8 which was discussed previously. .
<EMI ID = 10.1>
<EMI ID = 11.1>
If it is desired to be able to impart a certain pressure to the liquid or ingredient, the wall 18 of the vessel 5 is preferably
<EMI ID = 12.1>
<EMI ID = 13.1>
to a rubber bulb or other suction or discharge device.
In the embodiment of Figure 4, the support 1 of the blade 2 is established hollow as shown and openings or slots 20 for dispensing liquid or ingredient are formed at the ends of the cavity 21 formed, in the vicinity of the cutting edges of the
blade 2.
The cavity 21 is connected to the space 11 of the sleeve 10 of the instrument by a duct 22 formed in the fixing member 7 and a plug 13 closes the space 11 as in the preceding examples.
If a pressure must be communicated to the liquid or ingredient of the space II and of the cavity 21, one can associate with the stopper 13
a piston 23, influenced by an elastic member such as a spring 24, the pressure possibly being modified by a more or less pronounced engagement of the stopper 13. Alternatively, the piston 23 can be connected by a rod so as to achieve a suction and pressure pump. When pressure is imparted to the liquid or ingredient of the ins-
<EMI ID = 14.1>
suitable for the desired flow.
According to the variant of Figure 6, instead of providing a cavity in the support 1, the liquid or ingredient is distributed to channels such as 8 of the upper face of the comb, from the duct
22, by openings or passages 25 formed at appropriate places of the fixing member 7.
<EMI ID = 15.1>
in principle similar to that of Figures 1 and 2, but, as shown more clearly in Fig. 7, the comb is hollowed out in its central part,
<EMI ID = 16.1>
so as to form two distribution lips 27 in the vicinity of the edges of the blade 2, these lips possibly also being provided with passages
28.
According to fig. 8, in one or other of the arrangements described
with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, and 4 to 7, and even in the arrangement of FIG. 3, the stopper 13 can be replaced by a nozzle 29 allowing the instrument to be connected by a flexible conduit 30 under load, such as a tap for the distribution of water, liquid or ingredient.
from this source then being brought to the blade through the passages and in the manner indicated. We could also, by the said conduit 30, connect
<EMI ID = 17.1> a suction and rolling device, like a rubber bulb, with the effects indicated already with reference to figures 1 to 4.
In fig. 9, there is shown an arrangement in which
the blade 2 is uncovered on its underside, and the usual comb 3 is replaced by a kind of guide 34. An intermediate piece 35 is provided to serve as a lower support for the central part of the blade
and in the part 36 of this part, - which closes the capacity 5, are formed passage openings 37 for the liquid or ingredient,
which is preferably sprayed under pressure on the edges of the blade
2, thanks to one of the pressure means described with reference to figu-
<EMI ID = 18.1>
Finally in Figure 10, there is shown an application of the invention to a conventional razor blade, or other blade, 31, the capacity
<EMI ID = 19.1>
filling 13 preferably being provided at the upper part of this capacity.
The flow is obtained through openings or passages 32 provided in the vicinity of the cutting edge and, if desired, pressure can be imparted to the liquid or ingredient of the capacity 5, by
<EMI ID = 20.1>
As goes without saying, and as has moreover already been suggested, it is understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiments more especially described and shown, but also encompasses the variants and modifications.
