 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  Adjustment device for individual control of continuous rolling mill trains.

   In continuous rolling mills individually controlled by direct current motors in which it is necessary to roll, without drawing, the material to be rolled in order to avoid section reductions, there is no difficulty in running in a concordant manner all the motors during work, when all the cages are already loaded. The different angular speed ratios of the rolling mill motors can be adjusted with sufficient precision, by hand, by means of coarse adjustment devices and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 precise adjustment devices, without it being necessary to use an automatic device to achieve a concordant running of the motors.

   On the other hand, with each introduction of a new piece of the material to be rolled, there are harmful disagreements in the angular speed ratios of the motors, as a result of the natural decrease in the number of revolutions of the motors when passing through the idling to running under load. When the material to be rolled enters the first stand, the angular speed of the corresponding control motor decreases, while the other motors still have their higher angular speeds corresponding to idling. When the material to be rolled enters the immediately following stand, the peripheral speed of the rollers is initially greater than that of the material to be rolled.

   Stretching of the material to be rolled therefore occurs as long as subsequent motors have not reached the load angular speed for which they were set. even the use of adjustment devices for the. simultaneous operation of the motors does not prevent, at the usual high speeds, sudden loads momentarily lowering the angular speed of the rolling mill motors and it follows that the speed of the material to be rolled is too low at the time of its entry between the next pair of cylinders and that, in spite of these devices, there is therefore a stretching of this material.

   It has already been proposed to reduce, at the same time as the angular speed of the motor under load at the moment envisaged, that of the motor immediately following still running empty. ±, for this purpose, each of the motors except that of the first rolling mill is wound in compound. In this case, the induced current of the preceding motor working under load always travels through the compound winding so that, when the angular speed of the latter bends, that of the following motor also drops.

   However, this progressive compounding is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 achievable only in combination with an adjustment device for the concordant running of the motors, which again raises, at the desired angular speed under load, the motor, compounded from an independent source, the number of revolutions of which would decrease further by continuation of his charge.

   In accordance with the invention, a device is now proposed which also achieves the correct ratio between the speeds of the motors working at full load and those operating at no load when the material to be rolled is introduced, but which achieves this ratio, when changing from idle to loaded operation, without the use of an adjustment device for the corresponding running of the motors.

  According to the invention, all the motors, or all the motors with the exception or the first, are brought back during idling, to their angular speed under load, by an auxiliary device. However, when the load is applied, this device is made inactive by a device (servo-motor element, relay, etc.) which is traversed by the induced current of its own motor and which reacts proportionally to the current. of this current. This apparatus must be adjusted in such a way that it can withstand, without reacting, at least the current of the motor, when the latter is running without load and that it reacts, due to the higher current consumption, when the engine is suddenly loaded.

   The motor which runs without load at the angular speed corresponding to the load has, at the time of application of this load, a tendency to rotate more slowly, owing to the greater consumption of current, but it is prevented from doing so by the auxiliary device which can be used for example to decrease the intensity of the magnetic field.

   Although the two causes (the load, which causes the decrease in angular velocity, and the weakening of the magnetic field, which increases the angular velocity) 'do not act at the same time to cancel each other out, however, by adjusting suitable rheostats, etc ... achieve the result that between the cages, only a small loop of the material to be rolled loop occurs, @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 if necessary reduce further by intervening by hand during rolling. In any case, by using the device which is the subject of the invention, stretching of the material to be rolled is surely avoided.

   The appended drawing shows schematically, by way of example, some embodiments of the subject of the invention in which the inductor of each independently excited motor has been designated by F.

   According to the embodiment example I, a resistor R, which can also be a rheostat and which is shunted by a servomotor element S traversed directly or indirectly by the motor 1, has been switched on in front of the inductor F of the motor 1. induced current of motor I. When the load is applied, the servo-motor unit S reacts and removes the short-circuit of resistor R. When the connection is indirect, a chemical auxiliary resistor or a auxiliary inductive resistor, which can also be fitted with sockets.

   In addition, a rheostat can be inserted in the conductor connecting the coil of the servo-motor element and the aforementioned auxiliary resistor; We therefore have sufficient means to modify, as required, the weakening of 1 set of the magnetic field of motor 1.

   Embodiment II is a development of Embodiment I in that the servo-motor unit S and therefore the switching on of resistor R are further influenced by a relay Re, with or without setting in time, relay Re also being passed through directly or indirectly by the induced current of motor 2.

   It is also possible, in accordance with embodiment example III, to replace the action on the magnetic field of the motors by an action on the induced current. For this purpose, an auxiliary dynamo is placed in the circuit of the induced current of motor 3

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 or mounted in opposition Z, the inductor F2 of which is influenced in a manner analogous to that of the servomotor in the aforementioned examples by the intensity of the current induced by the motor 3.

  To reinforce the adjustment effect of the auxiliary dynamo Z, it can be provided with an additional inductor winding F1, which flows directly or indirectly by the induced current of the preceding load motor 2 and which, therefore - quent automatically varies the voltage of the auxiliary dynamo Z according to the size of the load, which may differ according to the temperature of the material to be rolled.

   The drawing shows a different adjustment device for each rolling stand, but it is obvious that in practice it is possible to adopt, for the entire rolling train, that is to say for all the stands, only the same adjustment device; in other words, it is possible to use only adjustment devices according to Example I, Example II or Example III.
