<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"-ampere-hour-meter for direct current".
When a short circuit occurs in the network to which an ampere-hour-meter for direct current is connected, the armature winding of the meter creates a magnetic field capable of weakening the permanent electromagnets which influence the armature operation, so that the meter gives inaccurate indications in the following.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To remedy this drawback, the DC ampere-hour-meter braking electrics are wound in order to compensate for the weakening action, on the braking electrics, of any short circuits that could occur. The winding can be done as a main line winding; but it can also be in series with the winding of the armature of the meter or in parallel with the latter.
The drawing shows three embodiments of the invention by way of example and schematically.
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment; FIG. 2 a second and FIG. 3 a third.
In the first embodiment, the reference 1 designates the collector of the armature of an ampere-hour-meter for direct current. The armature itself is not shown, but we can estimate that it is located in the air gaps of two permanent braking electrodes 2. References 3 and 4 denote the current lines of a network in branch 3 to which the winding of the counter armature is connected by brushes 5 of the collector 1.
In branch 3 of the line are connected windings 6 each surrounding a branch of one of the appliances 2; their winding direction is opposite to that of the winding of the meter armature. The windings 6 have only a few turns (for a meter of about 5 amps six per electro) so that they have no perceptible effect when the intensity of the current is normal. Reference 7 designates a shunt winding for the counter armature.
When a short circuit occurs in the line 3, 4, the action of the windings 6 on the permanent electros 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
grows in the direction of a magnetization of these; in other words, the windings 6 are opposed to the turns of amps of the armature of the meter which exert at this moment a demagnetizing action, so that there is no weakening of the permanent electros 2.
In accordance with the variant embodiment described, the compensator windings 6 are designed in the form of main line windings. These windings 6 can also, as shown in Figure 2, be in series with the winding of the meter armature or, as shown in Figure 3, in parallel with the winding of the meter armature.
