<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of an IMPORT PATENT APPLICATION Corridor with an inclined helicoldal2 plane, in particular for mining underground.
With regard to the top-down transport of bulk materials, in open-cast operations, the use of helical inclined planes is already known, just as these helical inclined planes have already been used for transport to the ground. low coal, for underground operations, in chimneys and false wells. These helical inclined planes consist essentially, like a snail staircase, of a central column constituting the element carrying the entire device, around which is placed, in the form of turns, the sliding corridor in the form of trough. The section of this corridor shows a more or less accentuated curve, and the arrangement is such that there is an elevation towards the exterior.
However, these corridors with helical inclined planes do not yet constitute a satisfactory means for transport in the exploitation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
underground station, because they are not sufficiently adapted to the working conditions of the bottom of the mines. It is above all the open construction of the corridor which proves to be disadvantageous because, when the corridor is overcrowded - a circumstance that cannot sometimes be avoided - there is a danger that the coal, by exceeding the edge, rushes towards the bottom of the well, fall which can cause accidents among miners. This drawback is all the more annoying since the central column can easily determine, in the sliding corridor, a heap of coal, and this obstruction therefore frequently causes the overflow and fall of the coal.
In addition, as regards the work at the bottom of the mines, these corridors with a helical inclined plane show the main defect that they require relatively too much space, and this is all the more unfavorable since, in most cases, they are used precisely. as a replacement for a frame conveyor, and that they must, therefore, be mounted in a exhaust compartment, the width of which is however rather small, so that the dimensions of the central column and those of the corridor must be very reduced which, in turn, further disadvantages material sliding.
The essential aim of the present invention is to create, for the service at the bottom of the mines, a corridor with a helical inclined plane which does not have the drawbacks listed above.
To do this, the corridor is housed in a tube acting as a conduit; at the same time, this tube replaces the central supporting column and constitutes the element supporting the entire installation.
This leads to the advantage that no fragment of coal will be able, while passing over the outer edges, to fall into the well; moreover, the sliding corridor is now, towards the center, to be completely free so that the coal cannot pile up and thus cause the obstruction of the corridor.
We choose, for the latter, a profile such that it does not lower
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
towards the interior, so that the coal has, as a result of the centrifugal force, a tendency to come as close as possible, during its sliding, to the outer wall of the passage. Thanks to the so-called centrifugal force, the materials are even pressed against the wall of the conductive tube, so that there is produced, between the latter and the carbon, a friction determining a braking effect. This effect is further enhanced by the fact that the sliding passage is, near its outer periphery, curved upwards so as to form an angle with the wall of the tube.
The top of this angle is arranged so that the centrifugal component passes essentially through said top, which determines a certain wedging of the material in the angle formed by the wall of the conductive tube and the peripheral part of the sliding passage , which jamming further increases the aforementioned braking effect. The opening of the angle formed by the passage with the wall of the tube depends on the nature of the material and on the sliding speed that is desired.
As the sliding corridor, considered transversely, extends freely towards the interior, it is possible to lower in this corridor pieces of coal measuring, at the edge, up to 800 mm. approximately, and these pieces will slide off without any hitch as their center of gravity is in the outward sloping corridor; there is therefore the possibility that these pieces - when the corridor is, transversely, quite full - protrude from the interior side of the sliding corridor. On the other hand, by using a tube serving at the same time as a supporting element, the corridor can be given the width which suits the size of the pieces. This can be achieved in the sense that the cantilever branch of the section exceeds the middle part or remains slightly below, with respect to the latter.
This latter embodiment appears to be the most advantageous, since it is thus created, from the inner edge of the sliding passage to the opposite wall of the tube, a free space which, in the event of an overload of the passage, allows pieces of coal
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to fall directly on the next turn of the corridor, which makes any obstruction of the corridor impossible.
Thanks to this construction, it is therefore possible to give the sliding surfaces and, thus, the section of the installation as such, in relation to the maximum size of the pieces of coal, and in relation to the available section of the well , dimensions such as to obtain the optimum conditions for the movement of the coal, inside the tube or cylinder, as well as for the assembly of the entire installation in existing false wells.
In addition, this conformation brings, from the point of view of construction, certain facilities which make it possible to adapt the assembly to the special requirements of work in mines, namely: easy transport, easy assembly and solidity. Thus, 1 "installation consists of several sections or elements each of which constitutes a cylindrical part, the interior of which receives only the part of a turn of the sliding passage. By fixing this turn, by welding, in the cylindrical element, the shape of the tube, already favorable in itself, from the point of view of stability, is further reinforced. Considering the angle of sliding, of the passage, necessary for the descent of the materials, one obtains, for these cylindrical elements comprising a half-spiral each, a height of about 650 mm, while the inner diameter is about 1100 mm.
Such dimensions make it possible to easily assemble and transport the various parts, in the operation at the bottom of the mines, and also to make them pass through the molds and through the compartment adjacent to that intended to receive the corridor with an inclined helical plane. dal.
Corridors with a helical inclined plane are already known, also housed inside a cylinder; however, they are used exclusively in open pit work, and do not exhibit the characteristics of the spiral inclined plane corridor.

according to the present invention. The fact remains that the known corridors do not adapt to the particularly difficult conditions of underground mining, whereas the object of the invention lends itself particularly well to this.
In the accompanying drawing is shown a corridor with a helical inclined plane according to the invention; Fig.l shows, in elevation, the assembly mounted in a false well compartment, while Fig.2 is a cross section; fig. 3 shows, on a larger scale, a longitudinal section of part of the corridor with a helical inclined plane. Figs. 4 to 12 show a special embodiment of the object of the invention; FIG. 4 is a longitudinal section of a passage element, while FIG. 5 shows, on a larger scale, the method of fixing the sliding passage; fig. 6 is a corresponding schematic drawing of the corridor with a helical inclined plane.
Figs. 7, 8 and 9 show, in three views perpendicular to each other and in partial section, corridor elements comprising an inlet member, while Figs. 10, 11 and 12 also show, in three views perpendicular to one another, the method of mounting the corridor with a helical inclined plane, in a false well.
In the false shaft 10 is mounted the corridor with a helical inclined plane 11, through which the coal from the upper gallery 12 passes, to the lower gallery 13. The corridor with a helical inclined plane 11 is composed of elements 11 ', connected l 'to each other by flanges 14; section of the device is circular, which has the advantage that the body, which is made of sheet metal, is particularly resistant; on the other hand, this circular section ensures, as to the manufacture of such a sheet body, the best conditions from the point of view of undeformability, in particular at the joints of the various cylindrical elements.
Inside the tube or cylinder 11 is arranged the sliding passage 15 in the form of a spiral, the assembly of which, with the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
EMI6.1
cylinder or tube, can be made by welding, so that the latter not only serves as a casing preventing the coal from overflowing and falling into the well, but also serves as a member carrying the actual sliding passage.
It follows from all this that it is therefore possible to give the helical corridor a diameter small enough to allow it to be mounted inside an extraction core 10 'of an already existing false well and designed according to the specifications. usual rules; thus the object of the invention is particularly suitable for use in underground mining. In addition, the nélicoidal corridor is subdivided into elements, the dimensions of which are such that they each receive a fraction of a turn, for example a half-turn, which at the same time allows an excellent execution of the assemblies of the trough.
In addition, this subdivision makes it possible both to adopt a sliding angle which allows the coal to descend without hindrance, - which can be further encouraged by the choice of a particular profile - and to give the elements of the corridor discharge a length such that they can be easily fitted inside the extraction core through the 10 "molds.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the sliding profile adopted consists of two branches 16, 17, the arrangement of which is such that, on the whole, the profile is in a way at the bottom of the boat. The branches 16 and 17 can optionally be assembled by means of a curved insert. Instead of a "broken" profile, one can obviously also choose a completely curved profile, as indicated in fig.3 by dashed lines; the conditions described above are also given in this case. The arcuate sliding profile also has this particular advantage that it is flush with the assembly surface of the elements of the tube, which means additional ease for the positioning of the elements.
In order to allow access to the interior of the corridor if necessary
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
is, without having to dismantle the elements for this, longitudinal hand holes 18 have been provided in the mantle, which will be usefully arranged according to the inclination of the trough.
The developments illustrated in fig. 4-12 proceed from the idea that by further subdividing the construction of the helical corridor, the assembly can be done in a minimum time and that, moreover, the use of the helical corridor in itself will be made even easier. Thus, first of all, to fix the inclined trough proper to the wall of the cage, use is made of a removable seal, which allows the elements of the trough to be mounted and dismantled. (due to wear, for example), by a manhole in each of the elements of the corridor, without having to dismantle the cylindrical cage itself for this.
This possibility arises when each corridor element contains a half-turn of the trough; however, for practical reasons, it is advantageous to subdivide this half-turn in turn, in order to allow easy assembly and installation. dismantling, even if the space is very measured. In accordance with this development, provision has also been made for the subdivision of the corridor element along its length; it is therefore sufficient to move a part away from the wall to be able to proceed with the installation and removal of the trough. In addition, this longitudinal subdivision is also used especially for the subsequent installation of new entry or exit parts for the sliding passage, as the need arises in certain operating processes.
In any case, this way of proceeding makes it possible to avoid important preparatory work, because the installation of a new entry part can be done in this way in such a time that, in practice, it does not occur. interruption of service.
The conveyor trough 15 proper is fixed to the inner surface of the cylindrical corridor elements 11, by means of screw connections 20; branch 16 of the trough terminates in a cantilever in the middle part of the corridor element
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
11, while the other branch 17 forms an angle with the inner wall of the passage element 11. The trough 15 forms a half-turn inside a passage element 11, and in this case, it splits again in the middle. The parts 15 ', 15 "are therefore quarter turns; moreover, their dimensions are such that they can be assembled and disassembled easily through a manhole 18, provided in the wall of the corridor element 11.
It is obviously possible to subdivide the sliding corridor into more or less elements, but from a practical point of view, the division of a half-turn into two quarter-turns has proved useful, because the conditions are then such that they allow rapid assembly and removal of the conveyor trough, even under the most unfavorable circumstances in underground operation.
The fixing of the sliding trough inside the cylindrical cage 11 is carried out as follows; By means of special devices, is welded on the inner wall of the corridor elements 11, bases 21 suitably adapted to the inclination of the sliding trough and to the obliquity of the trough arm 11. The sheets constituting the trough are placed on these bases 21 and assembled with the latter by means of screws 22.
These have a conical head 23, which is flush with the sliding surface. The conical widening of the sliding sheet around the screw hole and serving to receive the screw head is engaged in a conical recess of the base 21, which ensures good fixing of the sheets of the trough. The fixing screws 22 are distributed around the circumference of the circle in such a way that the trough elements, being arranged in the manner of the tiles of a roof, but otherwise in all points similar to each other, together ensure the continuity of the sliding trough, especially up and down fittings.
Thanks to the identical shape given to all the elements, the construction of a similar corridor with a helical inclined plane is considerably simplified.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
on the other hand, we have the great advantage that, the corridor being in service, these elements are always interchangeable, without it being necessary to carry out lengthy and expensive accessory work.
In the exemplary embodiment according to fig. 4-6, the closed elements of the passage are assembled by the flanges 14, 14.
In accordance with the embodiment according to Figs. 7,8,9, the joints 24, 24 also subdivide the corridor element in the longitudinal direction, which makes it possible to remove the half-wall of a corridor element , after having loosened the flanged joint 14 and the screws passing through the joints 24, 24. This should in particular make it possible, when a new stage is started, to load the helical corridor from this point. To this end, it suffices to remove half of a corridor element and replace it with an inlet part 25, the slideway 26 of which is constricted and oblique so as to achieve a good connection with the trough part. 15 located in the other half of the immediately lower corridor element.
It is obviously possible to divide longitudinally any element of a helical inclined plane corridor, to remove and place element halves and to interchange the sliding troughs. In practice, however, corridor elements, longitudinally divided, will only be placed in places where it is anticipated that a new inlet opening will have to be created during operation. It is useful to arrange in similar places, one above the other, two longitudinally divided passage elements. It is certain that the entire corridor with a helical inclined plane will thus be cheaper than if all the elements of the corridor were divided.
So that the assembly and disassembly of the parts forming the trough can be done easily, it is important to spare as much space as possible around the corridor; it is therefore a question of fixing it in the cage by means of members as compact as possible. This is achieved, according to the invention, if, near the upper flange

14, each eighth corridor element is provided with radial surfaces 27, 27, placed on the two exactly opposite sides, on which is screwed an adjustment plate 28 ending at the top in a bolt 29, which passes through a beam 31 placed on the molds 30 and is held by the nuts 32. Several holes are provided in the screw surfaces 27 and in the adjustment plates 28, in order to be able to adjust the suspension of the corridor.
In this way, together with the possibility of adjustment by means of the screw 29, it is possible to take account of the inevitable movements of the ground. This suspension has the advantage that, unlike the usual chain suspension, where these are generally oblique with respect to the molds, it is located very close to the cylindrical cage, parallel to it, and that therefore it requires very little little space, notwithstanding the large extent of adjustment possible.
