Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 pratiquement aucune self-induction.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 circulation d'eau.

  DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of a PATENT OF INVENTION APPLICATION
During the manufacture of electron tubes intended for very high frequencies, in particular at a wavelength range of less than 3 meters, it has been observed that the specific capacities of the electrodes and the inductances of the conductors ending in the electrodes take such high values. that it is not practically possible to amplify the oscillations, because the reaction coupling produced by the capacitors formed by the electrodes between them give rise to undesirable oscillations by self-excitation.

   To avoid this self-excitation, it has been proposed to place neutralization capacitors inside the empty bulb. But this solution gives rise to an inductive potential drop along the conductors of the cathode which has the consequence of destroying the symmetry produced by the neutralization capacitors. Electronic tube.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The subject of the present invention is an improved electron tube with a view to remedying this drawback. According to the invention two groups of electrodes operating in push-pull and two neutralization groups are arranged in a discharge bulb common to these groups. A particular advantage resulting from this solution consists in the fact that the conductors terminating at the cathodes are only traversed by direct current.

   According to another characteristic of the invention, the neutralization groups are preferably of the type of cold electrodes.

   The invention is easy to understand from the description which is given hereinafter, with the accompanying drawing attached, in which: FIG. 1 represents the assembly diagram of the groups of electrodes; FIG. 2 is a partially schematic cross section of one embodiment of an electron tube according to the invention; Fig.3, on a larger scale than Fig.2 is a section along line 3-3 of Fig.2; fig. 4 is a schematic detail view of the arrangement of the cathode of the tubes of the new type; Fig.5 is a partial plane, viewed in the direction of the arrow of the cathode arrangement shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

   One can see in fig.l all the capacities and all the elementary industances contained in the tubes according to the invention. I, II designate the elementary capacities of the groups of heated electrodes and III, IV designate the elementary capacities of the groups of cold electrodes which serve as neutralization groups. Each of these elements I to IV consists of the gate-anode capacitance Cga, the gate-anode capacitance

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 cathode CES and anode-cathode capacitance Cac. Lg denotes the inductances of the grid conductors, La the inductances of the anode conductors and Lc the inductances of the cathode conductors.

   The electrode groups of the tube are controlled through a coil A, while the output power is collected through a coil B of a single anode circuit. The single cathode conductor is grounded at E. The arrangement shown in this figure is perfectly neutralized by itself, so that no self-excitation of oscillations can occur. Likewise, no high frequency current can flow through the cathode conductor grounded at E.

   In an empty ampoule 1, two cathodes 2, 3, two grids 4,5 and two anodes 6,7 are arranged as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. The cathodes are in the form of ribbons or are flat and parallel to the anodes 6,7. As shown in Figures 3 and 5, the cathode 2 comprises an emissive layer 18. Similarly, fig.5 shows that the cathode 3 comprises an emissive layer 19. The layers 18 and 19 are located on each side of the axis bulb 1.

   This group of electrodes comprises the distribution of capacitances shown in FIG. 1, that is to say the cathode 2; the grid 4 and the corresponding portions of the anodes 6, 7 correspond to elements I, III of fig.l. One of the sides of this elementary group, that is to say the one where the emissive layer 18 acts, forms the group of heated electrodes, while the other side of this group forms the cold group used for neutralization . The arrangement described above by way of example has the particular advantage that the control grid and the corresponding grid portions functioning as a neutralization capacitor are directly joined together, so that the branch conductors do not have

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 virtually no self-induction.

   This effect is accentuated by the fact that the grids have the form of a winding, the turns of which are substantially vertical, with respect to the axes of the cathodes 2, 3.

   Consequently the cathode 3, the grid 5 and the corresponding portions of the anodes 6, 7 are arranged so as to function in the form of the elements II, IV of fig.l.

   The gate voltages are brought by the coil A (fig.l) passing through the conductors 8, while the anode currents arrive through the conductors 9. To achieve a continuous passage of the oscillating impedance of the anodes 6,7 in the conductors 9, the points where these conductors meet at the anodes are lined with a cover 10 formed from a sheet of metal.

   To manufacture the arrangement described above, the conductors 8, 9 are fixed in a ceramic ring 11, along radii.

  Then the aforementioned groups of electrodes are mounted and two are fixed. glass caps 12 on the ring 11.

   In the bulb 1 thus formed, the groups of electrodes are held in place for example by insulating discs 13, 14. In order to be able to use a cathode with direct heating in the tubes of great power, one adds to a heated cathode 15, a second cold cathode 16 in the form of a wire, and these two cathodes are mounted so as to cross in the center, as shown in FIG. 4. The role of the cathode 16 is to prevent the emission current from being controlled by the neutralization group. Likewise, a shielding can be made between the heated group and the neutralization group by a suitable sheet of metal. Likewise, the two grid-cathode groups can be placed one next to the other, the cathodes then having to be joined to one another by short conductors.

   In the case of high power tubes, the anodes can be hollow bodies and two hollow current input elements can be attached to the anodes to cool them by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 water circulation. When a circulating water cooler of this type is used, the complete set of electrodes can be mounted in a closed ceramic bulb.

   Neutralization groups, instead of having the form of cold electrode groups, as described above, may consist of capacitors and coils.

   A shield 17 formed from a sheet of metal can be arranged so as to surround the conductors 8 as shown in FIG. 3, this shield being at the potential of the cathode.
