Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  Firearm.

   In repeating weapons, autoloading weapons, and other mechanical weapons, it is good for the shooter to know when the magazine is empty, or nearly empty.

  This is why the magazine for automatic pistols, self-loading weapons and other weapons is frequently so established that the cartridge elevator, at the time of the last shot, either itself or by means of a lock actuated by him, immobilizes the breech in its retracted position, and maintains it in this position until the magazine is again filled. The bolt lock can of course be released by hand.

  However, the displacement of the cylinder head is almost always carried out

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 in the direction of the gun barrel, and almost parallel to the line of sight. In addition, the cylinder head is most of the time surrounded by a case. Both of these circumstances make it difficult to examine the bolt, so the shooter may not always know exactly when the magazine is empty.

   In accordance with. invention, this drawback is avoided by the fact that the magazine comprises a locking device which immobilizes a member indicating that the magazine is empty and which, at the moment or after the departure of the last cartridge, is triggered by the feeder or by a member controlled by the feeder or even, through the intermediary of the feeder, by means of a part of the weapon moved during the loading operation. In stores with a drop-down cover, this cover is suitably used as an indicator member.

   The invention can be applied to all weapons comprising a magazine. It is particularly advantageous in weapons in which the breech, after each shot, returns or is returned to the locking position, in particular when the magazine can be filled, the breech being locked. In this case, when the indicator device integral with the magazine is actuated, the shooter still has one shot and can, without being completely disarmed, wait a favorable moment to reload the magazine.

   Other characteristics of the invention will emerge from the description which will follow of the exemplary embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings where:
Figure 1 is a cross section passing through the magazine and the housing, along line c-c of Figure 8, the cover being closed.

   Figure 2 is a cross section taken along line d-d of Figure 8. Figure 3 is a side view of the support of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 cartridges, or cartridge stopper.

   Figure 4 shows a longitudinal section passing through the store, along line b-b of figure 8
Figure 5 is a cross section taken along line a-a of Figure 8.

   Figure 6 is a cross section taken on line c-c of Figure 8, the cover lock being released, and the cover open.

   Figure 7 is a side view of the store.

   Figure 8 is a plan view of the store and part of the housing.

   To the box 1 of the cylinder head 2 is connected the magazine 1m, the upper loading opening of which can be closed by a cover 3. This cover 3 can turn around the axis 4, and is under the action of the spring 6, which pushes the rod 5 against the finger 3d of the cover. The spring 6 also acts on the rod 7, which retains the sliding bottom 8 of the magazine. The cover 3 is provided on its upper face with a housing 3r, in which the cover lock will be engaged, which will be described later, and it also comprises, on its underside, the oboic ribs 3v and 3h, or a corresponding guide surface, always leading the upper cartridge to its correct loading position, shown in figure 8.

   In the magazine 1m, there is an elevator 9, which drives the cartridges contained in the magazine upwards, under the action of the elevator spring 10. The cover 3, in the firing position, is held by a cover lock 12 guided between the wings 1c, and which can oscillate about the axis 13. The lower end 12f of the cover lock forms a spring, and comes to bear against the side wall of the store. The upper end of this lock forms an engagement hook 12r which, at the time @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 closing the cover 3, falls into the housing 3r. The lid latch 12 also has a nose 12n, which extends to the interior of the magazine, passing through a slot formed in the wall thereof.

   On this wall is also provided a cartridge lock 14 which envirpnne, by its lower forked end, the lr ear belonging to the wall of the store. The axis 15 which passes through the two ovalized holes 14s of the branches of the fork connects the lock or cartridge stopper 14 to the lug 1r, without however opposing the movement of the cartridge stopper downwards, against the lug. spring action 14f. The upper end of the cartridge stopper forms an oblique nose 14p, passing through another opening in the wall of the magazine.

   The cartridge stopper can be moved downwards by means of a pressure exerted on the nose 14p, or on the shoulder 14n located outside the magazine, at the same time that it is capable of performing a slight movement. oscillation outward, so that the nose 14p comes out of the cartridge chamber.

   The operation of the store is as follows:
For loading it with cartridges, with the cover 3 open, a cartridge magazine is placed on the magazine lm so that the cartridges can be driven down into the magazine. Said cartridges are then successively engaged by the cartridge stopper 14, so that, before the cover is closed, they cannot be pushed out of the magazine again by the elevator 9. After loading the magazine, the cover 3 is closed, the hook 12r of the cover latch 12 being first of all separated laterally, to then fall back into the housing 3r of the cover.

   During the closing movement of this cover, the upper cartridge is moved laterally by the oblique ribs 3v and 3h (figure 8) until it comes to bear against the direction surfaces of the housing 1. From this position, the cartridge is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 pushed back into the chamber, in a known manner, under the action of the breech. The same operation is repeated for the following cartridges, which are moved upwards by the elevator. When the last cartridge is pushed back into the chamber, the elevator 9 is in the position shown in figure 6, that is to say that it is located opposite the nose 12n, the cover lock 12.

   If the cylinder head is locked now, the boss 2w of the cylinder head pushes the elevator 9 sideways against the nose 12n, so that the hook 12r releases the cover 3, and the latter rises sharply under the spring action 6. As a result, the shooter is warned that the last cartridge is in the barrel and that the magazine must be refilled. This magazine loading can be ensured with the bolt locked. In particular, the boss 2w does not constitute an obstacle, since it is located at the level of the bullet, the diameter of which is always notably smaller than that of the cartridge case.

   When the shooter gives up reloading the magazine, and wants to close the cover, he pushes the elevator 9 slightly downwards, so that the cover lock 12 pushes the elevator sideways into the notch. 2nd of the 2w boss of the cylinder head. The lid latch 12 can then come into action again, and maintain the lid in its closed position.

   The operation of the cartridge stopper 14 and that of the cover lock 12 are not influenced when the magazine 1m, after removing the bottom 8, is replaced by a magazine. Naturally the magazine-loader elevator must then be set up correspondingly.

   Independently of the automatic lid latch 12, there can also be provided a latch actuated by hand, and for example constituted by a sliding latch or a pawl, to maintain the lid in its closed position, when it has

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 been closed, and when the lock 12 is put out of action, such an additional locking is particularly advisable when the lock 12 is triggered by the elevator 9 or by an axis driven by the elevator and undergoing the action of a spring, axis which, in the position of the elevator indicated in FIG. 6, protrudes against the nose 12n of the cover lock.

   In addition, there is naturally nothing to prevent the cover 3 from being arranged in such a way that it will open laterally. In addition, the triggering of the cover lock may be caused, instead of being by the breech, by any other part of the weapon, moving when the cartridges are advancing, the elevator, in accordance with the embodiment shown, acting as an intermediate member.
