<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
---..rieure du noyau creux 70, de façon que chaque fois que la pièce 73 est mise en rotation, la bobine est mise en rotation simultanément par suite de l'action de frottement entre la pièce 73 et le noyau 70.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

"Improvements to Removable Film Reels for Photographic Cameras".
The present invention relates to reels of film or removable film for cameras or cameras.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a new construction of a reel of film comprising control means for rotating this reel with a view to causing it to take or rewind a film which has been fed to it. - Oi by a chain wheel after each exposure, as well as a means of allowing a sliding action between this control means and the film reel on which it is mounted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel construction of a reel of film provided with a sliding friction control means to compensate for the increase in reel diameter due to the turns of film which. are rewound on it suitable for use in a camera-

A graphic having a chain or train of cogwheels between the chain wheel and the film reel, which train of cogwheels in which there is no frictional sliding action.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved film reel construction of the kind described which comprises a relatively small number of simple parts, which is convenient to assemble and which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture, which is simple to install. mount in the operating position and easy to remove and which at the same time is very effective for the purpose pursued.
In accordance with the present invention, a removable film reel has been created for a photographic camera, which comprises a means for rotating this reel and a friction-sliding means co-operating with this reel control means. , the sliding means with friction being removable with the spool.
In cameras employing a perforated film moved by a tooth wheel associated with a transmission provided on the camera, when the film is rewound on an empty spool, the diameter is small at the beginning but as the turns. of film are received on the reel, the diameter becomes larger. It is therefore necessary to introduce a sliding means with friction at a point between the chain wheel and the spool. By means of the present invention the sliding means with friction is eliminated from the mechanism of the apparatus and a fixed transmission ratio is provided therein, the means of sliding with friction being associated with the film reel which forms the last. point in the toothed wheel chain when the spool is mounted in the device.
In order for the invention to be fully understood, it will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

If we first refer to figs. 1 to 5, there is seen a part of a camera 10 comprising the body parts 11 and 12 which when assembled form the film reel chambers 15. In one of the film chambers 15 is a reel 20. receiving or winding, constructed in accordance with the present invention and which may include a core 21, around which a film is intended for #
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
coil, and a pair of clamps 22, 23 attached to the core in any suitable manner well known in the industry.
If desired the flanges 22 and 23 can be made in one piece with the core 21 and can be constructed as a single piece made by means of dies as shown in laig. 3 of the drawings.
The core 21 may be provided with a number of slit-like openings 24 arranged symmetrically so that one end of the film can be frictionally secured to the core 21 by forming a loop of that end of the film. through the slits 24 in any desired manner.
A perforated film F is used. The film F is set in motion by a suitable chain wheel (hereinafter sometimes referred to as a "tooth wheel") 35 having protrusions 34 which engage with the perforations of the film F to. move the latter forward. The wheel 35 can be set in motion by a hand button 50 disposed outside the body of the apparatus, and connected to the toothed wheel by a suitable transmission. One form of intermediate transmission mechanism comprises a rotary shaft 42 at one end of which is fixed to rotate with it a toothed wheel 43. This toothed wheel 43 is intended to mesh with a toothed wheel 44 integral with the shaft 41 of the gear wheel. teeth to turn this shaft and the wheel 35.
The camera shown in the drawing is of a type established such that the knob 50 can only be rotated by a determined amount, this amount being a little more than sufficient to advance the film for exposure. The apparatus can be set up so that the rotation of the knob 50 also acts to rotate the shutter, which puts the camera in a state for exposure. After exposure has been made, the knob is again free to rotate by the same amount as before, thus repeating the cycle.
In order to provide uniform reception and rewinding of the film F after it has been moved by the tooth wheel
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
35, the film reel 20 of the present invention is set up to carry a toothed wheel 25 which is mounted on a cylindrical extension 26 forming a hub, protruding outwardly on one of the flanges, for example the flange 22.
The wheel 25 is mounted in such a way that it can rotate relative to the hub 26. Two intermediate wheels 45 and 46, arranged nearby, can rotate on a shaft 46 fixed to the wall W of the body of the apparatus. photographic. The wheel 45. is intended to be actuated by the wheel 44 while the wheel 46, which rotates with the wheel 45, is intended to mesh with the toothed wheel 25 mounted on the spool 20.
The flange 22 of the spool 20 may be provided with an annular portion 27 projecting outwardly, surrounding the hub 26. The toothed wheel 25 is so placed on the hub 26 that its flat side 25a comes into contact with the hub 26. contact with friction with part 27 of the flange. Appropriate resilient means, i.e. for example the spring 28 attached to the hub 26, can be employed to normally push the wheel back.
25 in frictional engagement with part 27 of the flange. If desired, the wheel 25 can be arranged so as to have its flat o8té 25a directly in contact with the flange 22.
It can therefore be seen from the above that when the wheel
25 is forced to turn by the gear train 44,
45 and 46, the coil 20 and the core 21 thereof are rotated simultaneously due to the friction between the flange portion 27 and the surface 25a of the toothed wheel.
In order to position or mount the reel 20 in the film reel chamber 15, a central opening 29 is provided in the hub 26 which is intended to receive a shaft 30 fixed to the wall W of the part 11 of the film. body of the camera. A short shaft 31 protrudes outwardly on the opposite flange 23, is placed centrally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the spool 20 and is intended to be received freely in the body. an open top pamier 32.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
This bearing 32 can be attached to the wall Z of the body or else be stamped in one piece with this wall. When it is desired to mount the spool in chamber 15, it is simply necessary to ensure that the shaft 30 is received in the opening 29 and simply to drop the shaft 31 into the bearing 32.
In fig. 6 to 8 is shown a modified form of the invention in which the film reel comprises a core 60 and two flanges 61 and 62 attached to the core in any suitable manner. A toothed wheel 63 is fixed to the flange 61 on the side thereof opposite to the hub 60; this wheel is intended to come into engagement with the wheel 47 of the chain of toothed wheels of the apparatus, described above.
Around the core 60 has been placed a friction sleeve 65 which is intended to come into frictional contact with a part of the core 60. After the film has been moved by the toothed wheel 35, it must be wound up on the sleeve 65. such that a sliding action is produced between the spool core 60, which is rotated by the wheel 63 from the operating mechanism of the camera, and the sleeve 65 which carries the spools. res from the movie. The friction sleeve 65 may have any suitable shape such as that shown in fig. 8 and may be provided with a clamp 66 for securing one end of the film to the sleeve for winding. .
In fig. 9, 10 and 11 show another modified form of the invention in which there is provided a film reel comprising a hollow tubular core 70 and two flanges 71 and 72 which can be made integrally with the core, as shown, or which can be attached separately in any manner well known in the industry. Into the hollow core 70 is introduced a part 73 which may be provided with grooves or slots as has been shown and which is intended to come into frictional engagement with the internal surface.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
--- .. higher of the hollow core 70, so that each time the part 73 is rotated, the coil is rotated simultaneously as a result of the frictional action between the part 73 and the core 70.
The part 73 may be provided with a flange 73a located near one end and intended to cover the outer surface of the spool flange 72. Near the end of the part 73 opposite that of the flange 73a, a toothed wheel 74 has been fitted to rotate with the part 73.
The toothed wheel 74 can be set so as to be in engagement with the toothed wheel 47 of the operating mechanism of the camera and can be fixed on the part 73 between two flanges 75 and 76, the flange 76 being intended at the same time. preventing, in cooperation with the flange 73a, the axial movement of the part 73 in the hollow core 70. It can be seen from the construction described above that a sliding action is produced between the control part 73 and the core 70 of the film reel on which the film is intended to be wound.
We will now deal with the modified form of the invention shown in FIGS. 12 and 13. In order to produce a uniform reception or a uniform winding of the film F after it has been moved by means of the tooth wheel 35, the following construction has been provided. One of the flanges of the coil 120, for example the flange 122, is not rigidly fixed to the core 121 but can rotate with respect to the latter. The core 121 is provided with a narrowed portion 121a forming a shoulder 121b. The flange 122 is intended to fit on the extension 121a so as to rest against the shoulder 121b and it is mounted so as to be capable of relative rotation with respect to the core 121.
A toothed wheel 125 is attached to the flange 122 by some suitable fastening means such as rivets 160 and this wheel is preferably spaced from the flange 122 by means of an annular projection 161 which is integral with the flange 122. The toothed wheel

125 is set up such that when the coil 120 is mounted in the camera as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the wheel is engaged with an intermediate toothed wheel 45 which is in turn intended to mesh with the toothed wheel 44 which operates the toothed wheel 35.
The flange 122 is able to rotate relative to the core 121 and the toothed wheel 125 is attached to the flange 122. It will therefore be seen that whenever the toothed wheel 125 is forced to turn by the chain of toothed wheels of the the camera, terminating in this, the flange 122 also rotates.
In order to force the flange 122 to completely extend the core 121, a spring 162 is provided which is fixed to the extension 121a of the core and which normally presses the flange 122 into frictionally engaging the shoulder 121b and thus forces the film. F to be wound on the spool 120. As the diameter of the core of the spool 120 increases, there is a sliding action between the flange 122 and the shoulder 121b to compensate for this increase.
For the positioning or mounting of the coil 120 in the coil chamber 15, a central opening 129 is provided in the extension 121a of the core, which opening is intended to receive a shaft 30 fixed to the wall W of the core. part 11 of the camera body. A short shaft 131 projects outwardly on the opposite side of the flange 123 and is centrally located with respect to the longitudinal axis of the spool 120; this shaft is intended to be freely received in a top open bearing 32. This bearing 32 may be attached to the wall Z of the body or stamped in one piece therewith. When it is desired to mount the coil in the chamber 15, it suffices to force the shaft 30 to be received in the opening 129 and simply drop the shaft 131 into the bearing 32.
There is shown in FIGS. 14 and 15 a modified form of the invention in which the film reel comprises a core

165 and two flanges 166 and 167 attached thereto in any suitable manner. One of the flanges, such as by
6, for example, the flange 16 is provided with an extension 168 arranged centrally on which is mounted a clutch member 169 comprising projecting parts 170 which are intended to co-operate with a pair of control slots 171 arranged on a toothed wheel 172 such that in the operating position, toothed wheel 172 and clutch 169 rotate integrally.
The clutch 169 is intended to be able to rotate relative to the extension 168 and is held on this extension by means of a washer 173 fixed to the extension 168 so that the clutch 169 is placed between the washer 173 and the flange 166. An elastic member 174 surrounding the extension 168 is interposed between the flange 166 and the clutch 169 so as to normally push the clutch into frictional contact with the washer 173. It can therefore be seen that when the toothed wheel 172 is rotated and the protrusions 170 of the clutch are received in the control slots 171, the core 165 will be forced to rotate due to the friction between the washer 173 and the clutch 169. When the core diameter of as the film reel increases, there is a compensating frictional sliding action between washer 173 and clutch 169.
The toothed wheel 172, which is intended to engage with the wheel 45 in the camera, can be carried by the spool in that it has a shaft 175 attached to the wheel and received in the spool. opening 176 of extension 168.
It will therefore be seen from the foregoing description that there is provided a film reel construction including a sliding member with friction so that reception and rewinding of the film on the reel is ensured when. the diameter of the core of the reel increases as a result of the turns of film wound thereon.
It is also seen that the film reel constructed according to the present invention is capable of being

effectively employed in combination with a non-slip reel control mechanism mounted in a still camera, since the film reel itself carries the sliding mechanism, which greatly reduces the number of times the component is friction is employed, since a new friction member can be introduced into the apparatus. photographic with each new roll of film.
It should also be noted that since the friction slide member is removable with the spool, it can therefore be easily inspected.
It goes without saying that various modifications can be made to the arrangements described without departing from the scope of the present invention.
