 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   Le fonctionnement est le suivant;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 pleins.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

  Tap for pressurized fluid lines.

   The present invention relates to a valve intended to close pipes conveying a fluid under pressure (liquid, vapor or gas) and at any temperature. The taps known hitherto have the drawback that their mandatory controlled closure can lead to water hammers in the pipes or harmful vibrations. They require one or more cable glands or sealing gaskets subjected in closed operation to frequent stresses and whose deterioration

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 is very fast especially if the temperature of the fluids conveyed is high.

   In the valve which is the object of the invention, the valve control does not act directly and imperatively on the shutter body, but involves a kind of servo-motor whose action depends on the flow rate and the flow rate. fluid pressure and which ensures progressive closure of the shutter, avoiding water hammer and vibrations as well as the use of packing glands or non-metallic gaskets involved in the operation of the valve.

   According to a particularly simple and advantageous embodiment of the invention, the obturator body constitutes a kind of differential piston, the face of which has a small section directly receives the pressure from the pipe, while the face with a larger section is subjected to pressure. the opposite pressure of a chamber which communicates, on the one hand with the upstream part of the piping via a narrow calibrated orifice, and on the other hand with the downstream part or discharge part with an orifice of relatively large section than the 'can be closed or opened, depending on whether you want to close or open the valve, using a needle or similar device operable from the outside.

   At rest, the pressure in said chamber is equal to the pressure in the upstream part of the piping and the shutter is then pressed with force on its seat, but as soon as the needle is opened, the chamber suddenly discharges and the pressure y becomes substantially zero. The pressure prevailing in the upstream part of the pipe then acts to automatically open the main shutter.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   When the needle is closed, the chamber fills progressively and the pressure increases, thus tending / closing the main shutter as this increase occurs, any intermediate position of this shutter then corresponding to a balance between the force of the pressure in the chamber and that of the pressure of the water flowing between the shutter and its seat. The closing is therefore very gradual and furthermore slows down towards the end.

   By subjecting the needle to the action of a return force so that it automatically returns to the closed position inside the shutter and by arranging the control so that it is reversible c ' that is to say that it can return to its rest position, when it is abandoned, without hindering the closing of the needle and the shutter, it is possible to obtain an automatic closing of the valve after a certain time which depends on the size of the calibrated orifice.

   The valve can then function as a metering device allowing a determined quantity of fluid to pass between the moment of its commanded opening and that of its automatic closing.

   It is possible to provide several calibrated orifices of different sections, some of which are discovered in the closing movement of the shutter with a view to accelerating, according to a known law, the end of the closing movement.

   The return force of the needle may result from the difference in the pressures exerted by the fluid on the needle at the two ends thereof.

   If necessary, a return spring will be added.

The description which will follow, with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge both from the drawing and from the text being of course part thereof. .

   Fig. 1 is an axial section of a valve according to the invention.

     . Fig. 2 is a cross section along the line II-II of FIG. 1; in this figure, the line I-I broken at a right angle represents the trace of the two half-planes which give the section shown in FIG. 1.

   Fig. 3 is a partial section showing the detail of the calibrated orifice which supplies the shutter chamber.

   Fig. 4 is a partial section of FIG. 1 along line IV-IV.

   Fig. 5 is a projection view of the orifice of the shutter controlled by the needle.

   Fig. 6 is an explanatory view.

   Fig. 7 is a partial section similar to FIG. 1 showing a variant of the control mechanism.

   Fig. 8 shows in section an alternative embodiment of a calibrated orifice.

   We see in 1 the inlet pipe for the fluid which ends the pipe (upstream part) that we want to close at the groin of the valve and in 2, the discharge pipe (downstream part) in which there is more pressure. lower than in part 1, for example atmospheric pressure when the valve is closed.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   The two pipes 1 and 2 are connected by a
3 housing / the conical internal face of which forms the annular seat of a frustoconical movable shutter 5; this shutter can slide vertically inside a cylinder 6 carried by a cap 7 screwed onto the body 3 of the valve:

   As seen in fig. 2, the shutter is provided with two vertical arms 8 which serve to guide it inside the cylinder 6 and which, for this purpose, comprise grooves 9 in which protrusions la @ of the cylinder 6 engage, it is seen that the shutter assembly 5 and the
 EMI5.1
 <i cylinder 6 forms a closed chamber 6a; however, this chamber communicates with the upstream part 1 of the piping via a narrow calibrated orifice 11 formed for example in a screw which is fixed in the wall of the cylinder 6, and it can also communicate with the downstream part 2 by an orifice 12 of relatively large section which can be closed by means of a needle 13 ,.

   This needle is integral with a sliding rod 14 which is guided at its upper part in a hole 15 of the stopper 7 and at its lower part in the orifice 12 of the shutter 5 which comprises for this purpose, as seen in fig.5, two cylindrical surfaces 12a corresponding to the diameter of the rod and two openings 12b for the flow of fluid.

   At its lower part, the rod 14 rests on an arm of the lever 16 which can pivot about an axis 17.

   In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 6, the opposite arm of lever 16 cooperates with a cam 18 secured by a pin 19 of an operating lever 20 This operating lever therefore makes it possible to give the lever

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 16 or the position shown in solid lines in FIG. 1, or the position shown in dotted lines for which said lever 16 raises the rod 14 and the needle 13.

   The operation is as follows;
In fig. 1, the needle 13 is closed.

  Through the calibrated orifice 11, the chamber 6aest filled with fluid at the same pressure as in the upstream part 1 of the piping. The pressure of this fluid is exerted inside the shutter 5 on a circular surface S (fig. 6) which is larger than the annular surface a on which is exerted directly, outside the valve, the pressure prevailing in the pipe 1. The difference in forces therefore tends to keep the shutter 5 on its seat 4, the valve thus being closed.

   If, using the lever 20, the cam 18 is rotated so as to place the lever 16 in the position shown in dotted lines, this lever raises the rod 14 and the needle 13 which uncovers the slots 12b of the orifice 12 as the section of these ports is larger than the calibrated orifice 11, the chamber 6a is discharged very quickly and the pressure there reaches a value p 'smaller than the value in the upstream part of the piping.

   When p 'is sufficiently small, the force of the pressure Z lifts the shutter 5 by releasing it from its seat and the valve is opened.

   When you want to close the valve, turn the lever 20 in the opposite direction so as to replace the lever 16 in the position shown in lines.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 full. The needle 13 closes, the chamber 6a fills up through the caliber hole 11 and the pressure increases there. As this increase progresses, the shutter 5 is pushed back towards its seat, more and more restricting the passage of the liquid, but each position of the shutter corresponds to a balance of the forces of the internal and external pressures, and the The closure of the shutter takes place in a continuous progressive movement, depending on the pressure of the flowing fluid.

   As the latter increases as the flow decreases, the closing automatically slows down towards the end. the
For a given pressure in the inlet manifold 1, the closing / closing time depends entirely on the size of orifice 11. Closing can be instantaneous if orifice 11 (or the orifices when several are provided) are sufficient. large, delayed when this orifice is small.

   Water hammer is thus avoided. In addition, due to the profiled shape along the current lines which can be given both to the shutter 5 and to all the other parts in contact with the flowing fluid stream, vibration phenomena are avoided. so harmful, caused by known taps.

   A special seal between the shutter 5 and the cylinder 6 is unnecessary, since it is possible to provide close-fitting surfaces between this shutter and this cylinder.

   On the other hand, it is known that the static pressure of a flowing fluid is all the smaller as the velocity of the fluid is greater, that is to say the smaller the passage section; it is therefore possible to place the end of cylinder 6 in a place where the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 Fluid passage section between this cylinder and the valve body 3 corresponds to a fluid pressure substantially equal to the pressure inside the chamber 6a, there can then be no leak between the shutter 5 and the cylinder 6 .

   A spring can be made to act on the needle 13 tending to return this needle against its seat on the shutter 5. This spring will for example be interposed between the upper face 13a of the needle and the bottom of the stopper 7.

   But it should be noted that the needle is automatically returned to its seat by the play of the pressures of the fluid. When the needle is closed, the static pressure of the fluid exerted on its upper end 13a keeps it in the closed position; when it is open, as the flow section of the fluid stream between this needle and the shutter 5 is smaller than the flow section towards the upper end of the needle, it follows that the static pressure is greater at the upper end than at the lower end, resulting in a force returning the needle to the closed position. A spring will be added whether or not this restoring force is insufficient.

   It is possible to give the needle 13 any desired position by acting on it by means of the lever 20 and the cam 18, and any position of the needle corresponds to a determined position of the shutter 5, that is to say a flow rate also determined.

   In the embodiment which has been shown in figs 1 to 6, it is necessary

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 to close the valve, return the lever-20 to its rest position.

   But we can conceive of other forms of. embodiment in which the lever 20 can be abandoned after having opened the tap, the closing occurring automatically.

   In this case (fig.7) the cam 18 is removed and the operating lever 20 is directly integral with the lever 16. When this lever 16 is lifted, the valve opens in the manner described above; the needle 13 is then returned to its seat by returning the lever 20 to its rest position. The shutter 5 then tends to close and the speed of this closure depends on the size of the calibrated orifice 11.

   The valve can thus constitute a metering device allowing a determined quantity of fluid to pass from the moment it is opened,
It is possible to provide several calibrated orifices 11 arranged at different levels on the cylinder 6, so that they are all uncovered when the shutter 5 is closed, but only the upper orifice is released when the shutter is closed. found in the open position.

   The start of the downward movement of the shutter for closing then depends only on the section of the upper orifice, but this movement varies and is accelerated as the lower orifices are released.

   It goes without saying that the embodiments which have just been described are not the only possible ones and that they could be modified without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

   If it is feared that the deposits to which the conveyed fluid may give rise will eventually block the calibrated orifice, this can be made using a thin diaphragm 21 (fig. 8) fixed in front of a large diameter 22 of the wall 6 by a ring 23 also having a large diameter orifice. In this way, the thin deposits which may form in the small hole of the diaphragm 21 will be easily expelled by the pressure of the fluid. Other provisions can be adopted.
