<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Floor waxing and polishing device.
The present invention relates to a household appliance intended to spread the wax or polish on any parquet, and then to polish the polish surface.
This device comprises a head or support on which is articulated, by a pivot, a receiving sleeve intended to receive the handle of the device. Said head is made of a flat sheet, preferably having an ovoid contour. This sheet is stamped with a continuous rim, directed downwards, and of cross section in a half-round to serve as a housing for a bead, preferably of rubber, The underside of the sheet is lined with a plate made of felt or other similar material, taken in the peripheral rim and glued to the sheet of metal.
The pivot of the socket receiving the handle is supported by two tabs cut out of the sheet and folded perpendicular to the plane of this sheet; at the large end of the ovoid profile of the support are also provided two pairs of cut tabs
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and folded in the same way; these legs support two by two the pivot axes of eccentric clamping members.
With this support is combined a wax spreading cloth and a polishing cloth. Each of these sheets is for example rectangular in shape and on one of the short sides, two corners have been folded over the face of the sheet and the edges of which formed by the short side of the rectangle are juxtaposed and assembled by sewing. A sort of open triangular bag is thus formed at this point in which the small end of the support can be engaged; the two corners of the other short side of the sheet are then engaged, under tension, in the tightening eccentrics which hold them, so that the felt of the support is completely covered by the well-stretched sheet.
In order for the invention to be fully understood, there is shown in the appended non-limiting drawing, an exemplary embodiment.
Fig.1 is a perspective of one of the sheets.
Fig.2 is a plan view, from above, of the bare apparatus.
Fig. 3 is the same view with a sheet in place.
Fig.4 is a section along IV-IV of fig.2.
Fig.5 is a section along V-V of fig. 3.
In fig.l is shown a rectangular sheet 1, one end of which is folded and sewn in the form of an open bag 2 more or less triangular; we could obviously design a sheet of rectangular shape, the end of which in the shape of a bag would be more or less rounded, like the tip of a slipper,
The support of the device is made of a simple sheet of metal sheet 3, cut in the shape of a heart or according to an ovoid profile, this plate is equipped by stamping with a continuous rim 4, directed downwards, and whose cross section is a half-round groove, receiving a rubber bead 5.
The purpose of this protruding bead is to form a shock absorber when the support comes up against a piece of furniture or a wall, thus avoiding any deterioration of this piece of furniture, etc., 6 designates a felt filling, glued
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
on the underside of the. support 3, and the thickness of which is greater than the height of the rim 4, so that, whatever the pressure exerted on the support placed flat on the ground, the rim 4 cannot come into contact with the ground .
In the sheet of sheet 3 are cut two tabs or tabs 7, folded vertically above the plane of the sheet, to constitute supports for a pin 8 which passes through the lower end of a sleeve 9. This sleeve capable of pivoting about 180, removably receives the usual handle 10 of the apparatus. A characteristic point of the invention is that the pivot axis of the sleeve 9 is located in the major axis of the support 3, but outside the center of gravity of the assembly, and more particularly between this center of gravity and the big end of the support; this assembly ensures perfect stability of the support, or more exactly its maintenance flat on the ground, for all the tilting positions of the handle.
On either side of the major axis, at the large end of the support, and inclined by approximately 45 each on the axis, are provided, on the upper face of the support, two clamping members. Each of them comprises two vertical tabs 11, cut from the sheet 3, said tabs supporting an axis 12. On this axis pivots a cam formed, in the example, of a strip of sheet metal curved into a cylinder 13, with ribs transverse 13 ', with maneuvering tab 14, this cylinder comprising two partial bottoms 15 crossed eccentrically by the axis 12. In a pivoting position, the cylinder 13 leaves between itself and the upper face of the support 3 a large free space , while in another position the cylinder tightens elastically against the upper face of 3.
The sheet 1 is mounted on the support 3 by engaging the small end of this support in the point 2 of the sheet; the rectangular part of the sheet is then stretched flat on the felt 6 and its two free corners are each engaged between a cylinder 13 and the upper face of the support 3, after which the devices 13 are pivoted, to strongly tighten these corners of the sheet. The sheet is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
well maintained and completely covers the underside of the support.
In practice, a cloth is used to spread the wax, then it is replaced by another, made of chamois leather or the like, to effect the polishing.
