 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

A peuvent etre grattés ou traités d'autre manière

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

    @

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF SOLES AND THEIR FIXING
TO SHOES.

   The object of the present invention is a process for the manufacture of soles and their attachment to shoes and its aim is to provide a simple and inexpensive process for the production of shoes provided with soles, which always having a certain flexural rigidity. soft and compressible under the effect of the wearer's weight. The invention applies especially to the manufacture of slippers and to certain species of sports and gymnastic shoes, but can naturally also be applied to any other species of shoe, for which it is desired to have a sole having properties. analogous.

   It has previously been proposed to manufacture shoe soles consisting of a relatively thin piece of skin or leather or other material.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 similar flexible which is larger than the finished sole, that piece being placed on one side of a plate of relatively stiffer material, whereupon the protruding edges of the flexible piece are folded over the rigid plate and secured therein on the other face, the sole thus formed then being fixed to the boot with the latter face of the plate facing inwardly against the boot. In general, one or more seams have been used to secure the sole to the shoe.

   In this way, a sole is obtained which indeed has a certain softness at the bearing surface, but this sole is in practice not soft and compressible under the effect of the weight of the body, and its manufacture as well as its attachment to the shoe. are complicated and expensive.

   The invention also uses a piece of skin or thin leather or the like, the edges of which are folded over the edges of a relatively rigid piece and fixed thereto, but the invention differs from known methods for the manufacture of soles by the fact that on the one hand an intermediate part of felt or other compressible similar material is interposed between the outer piece of leather and the rigid plate and that, on the other hand, the folded edges of the piece of thin leather are fixed to the rigid plate by gluing, the fixing of the sole thus manufactured to the shoe also being effected by gluing. The gluing edges of the leather piece
A can be scratched or otherwise treated

 suitable to facilitate the adhesion of the glue.

   In this way we obtain a sole of the same elasticity and compressibility as a felt sole but nevertheless of a certain rigidity produced by the insertie plate, and of greater resistance to wear as a result of the leather coating on it. the wear surface, moreover, the sole is cheaper in terms of both its manufacture and its attachment to the shoe.

   The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

   Fig. 1 shows in plan the shape of the part, preferably of leather, before its application to the rigid plate.

   Fig. 2 shows a section along the line II - II in fig. 1.

   Fig. 3 shows the piece of leather attached to the rigid plate seen in plan from the inside of the sole.

   Fig. 4 shows the sole thus formed seen in plan from the outside.

   Fig. 5 shows a section along the line V - V in fig. 3.

   The piece of leather 1 is cut in a shape similar to that of the finished sole but in a larger format (fig. 1) and the relatively rigid plate 2 preferably made of cardboard or the like which is shown in figs. 2 and and is indicated by the dotted line 3 in fig. 1 has the shape and size of the final sole.

    @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

The piece of leather 1 is placed on one of the faces of the rigid plate 2 with an interposed felt part 5, and its edges 4 are folded over the edges of the rigid plate and fixed to it on the opposite face to the piece of leather, as it emerges from the pin 3. The sole thus composed is then fixed by gluing to the shoe.

   Before gluing the edges 4 of the piece of leather 2 we can scratch them or make them rough in another way in order to facilitate the adhesion of the glue, and if we want we can also bevel the said edges 4 in order to to facilitate folding and gluing of the piece of leather, as shown in fig. 2. h e s u m e.
