 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Huile d'Ocimum viride
Huile de blumea lacera
Huile de pinus pumilio
Huile de callitris propinqua
Huile de camphre de Borneo
Essence de wintergreen
Huile de melinis minutiflora
Essence de girofle
Essence de laurier.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Corresponding patent application filed in GERMANY on FEBRUARY 6, 1939
This invention relates to a product intended to impregnate fabrics and other textile materials by playing the role of an insecticide, so that the parts of the body dressed in these fabrics are protected against insect bites,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Known products of this kind have the drawback of retaining their useful effect only for a very short time and also of having such a strong odor that they are bothersome. These drawbacks have hampered the popularization of these products. As for insecticide products, mention may in particular be made of alcoholic formalin solutions in which stockings and gloves are soaked.

   Another also known product consists of a mixture of soap, clove oil and pyrethrum powder. While the first of these products has very poor stability, the second is very stable but has a very penetrating odor and is relatively expensive. In order to obviate these drawbacks, it has been proposed to essentially constitute products of this type using pyrethrum powder, Turkish red oil, various perfumes and emulsifying agents.

   However, it has been observed, as a result of experiments, that a much more marked effect can be obtained than with previous products by mixing the following ingredients to make an insecticidal oil:
Ceylon citronella oil
Patchouli oil
Ocimum viride oil
Blumea lacera oil
Pinus pumilio oil
Callitris propinqua oil
Borneo Camphor Oil
Oil of wintergreen
Melinis minutiflora oil
Clove essence
Laurel essence.

   Since the effectiveness of these products, which must be able to act at a certain distance, lies precisely in the persistence of their odor, it is necessary to avoid reducing the odor or a fortiori eliminating it. It is therefore necessary to sort among these oils or aromatic essences those which have the most pronounced scents.

  In addition, some of them are not in the trade in sufficient quantity, which is at first sight a reason to do without them.

   The emulsion which is proposed here according to the invention consequently contains as active elements the following etheric oils in the proportions indicated below:
Ceylon citronella oil .. ... . . . . .10 games
Pinus pumilio oil 3--
Oil of wintergreen 1 -
Sulfonated castor oil (emulsifying agent) ... 76 - or Turkish red oil (fixing agent) ...

   Essence of gayac wood. . . . . . . . . . . .10 - or Rosin ....................

   It is also possible, where appropriate, to take account of the taste of the clientele from an olfactory point of view by bringing in natural or artificial rose essence or such and such a fashionable perfume.

   The preparation of the gasoline solution is carried out as follows: The 10 parts of gayac wood essence are first dissolved in the 76 parts of sulfonated castor oil (shiny oil called "Monopoly "or Turkish red oil) by heating and stirring gently. If rosin is used, the same can be done but the insoluble elements which precipitate must then be removed.

   It is preferable, in such a case, to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 dissolve the rosin in the same amount by weight of ethylene trichloride with heating, then filtering, or after the insoluble constituents of the rosin have settled, to separate it. clear solution which floats and then add sulphonated castor oil. Thanks to this extraction of rosin, resin essences are obtained which, like the essence of gayac wood, give the emulsion great stability even on subsequent washing.

   Once we have. Prepared the solution of sulfonated castor oil and resin oil, 10 parts of lemon grass oil, 3 parts of pinus pumilio oil and 1 part of wintergreen oil are added. A perfectly clear solution is thus obtained with a light yellow color and a pleasant odor.

   The textile materials or products can then be impregnated with it in the known manner by preparing a lukewarm emulsion formed from 95 parts of water and 5 parts of this solution, then immersing the textiles therein, wringing them without rinsing them and drying them at a temperature. not too high. It is of course possible to prepare a higher percentage emulsion by reducing the proportion of water. The fabrics or other textile materials thus impregnated retain a persistent and pleasant odor for a long time, are soft to the touch and are favorably influenced in their fibers.
