Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

REVENDICATIONS.

  Method and device for increasing the efficiency of shaft furnaces, in particular blast furnaces.

   We know that the efficiency of shaft furnaces, in particular blast furnaces, does not increase in proportion to the increase in the surface area of the crucible, on the contrary, this is to be attributed to the fact that the wind blown radially by the Nozzles enter the furnace only to a certain depth.

  There is thus only one annular space which has a sufficient quantity of combustion air, while the inner circular surface of the furnace receives far too little.

   This finding determined an increase in the wind pressure in order to convey air to the center of the furnace. The general increase in wind pressure, however, brings with it a disadvantage because the outer annular space. receives too much air, which causes cooling in this place which makes it impossible to increase the efficiency or even decreases it and thus gives rise to a low-energy operation.

 mique.

   The present invention a. The object is a process and a nozzle making it possible to obtain very high yields in shaft furnaces, in particular in blast furnaces. The invention is based on the construction of several stages of the nozzles; in this way, not only air currents at different pressures, but, where appropriate, air - the characteristics of which can be chosen at will - at different pressures or at different temperatures or at different contents of oxygen are blown in such a way that at least one of the air streams has a pressure high enough to penetrate to the center of the furnace.

   The great advantage of the process stems from the fact that it is possible to introduce wind at ordinary pressure to supply the annular surface of the crucible section with the necessary combustion air, at the same time, however, as air whose pressure and properties are different and which, especially inside the furnace, are suitable for initiating and accelerating combustion and reduction operations.

   The wind intended for the center of the furnace can advantageously be enriched with oxygen and be highly heated beforehand, thus activating the combustion and reduction operations and causing an increase in the efficiency of the furnace.

   In order to allow, in the spirit of this process, a penetration as deep as possible of the air in the furnace, there is used according to the invention a nozzle which consists of several stages and which, according to the technique of l The flow is constructed in such a way as to allow the penetration into the interior of the furnace of a flow of closed air as widely as possible, one or more nozzles are, for this purpose, arranged so as to be able to slide and be oriented with respect to each other within a normal nozzle, so that the muzzles of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 Nozzles enter the furnace at different depths.

   A two-stage nozzle is shown in section in the accompanying drawing and serves as an exemplary embodiment for carrying out the process. a y designates the cooling box embedded in the masonry of the blast furnace, b designates the outer stage and c the inner stage of the nozzle. Air at normal pressure is blown through the tubes d while the air at high pressure and temperature, possibly enriched with oxygen, is introduced through the firmly embedded tube e.

   The inner stage c of the nozzle is arranged so as to be able to slide relative to the outer stage b; the reciprocal adjustment is effected by means of a rod f which is held by a cam g placed on the tube e .. The distance v- determines the quantity by which the two stages b and c of the nozzle.

   Another arrangement of the different stages of the nozzle relative to each other does not change the subject of the invention; thus these stages can be arranged concentrically or eccentrically, horizontally or obliquely to each other,
