 mités du réfrigérant, et une chambre de sortie de l'agent réfrigérant, à l'autre extrémité; une entrée et une sortie, pour le liquide à refroidir, disposées aux extrémités opposées du réfrigérant, dans le côté de celui-ci;deux chicanes transversales présentant chacune une ouverture centrale et disposées respectivement entre l'entrée et la sortie et le milieu du réfrigérant;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Improvements to heat exchangers suitable for oil cooling.

   The present invention relates to improvements to temperature exchangers of the type in which a liquid to be cooled is circulated over a number of tubes through which a refrigerant liquid flows.

   The object of the invention is a liquid cooler intended particularly for use as an oil cooler and comprising a number of tubes, serving for the circulation of coolant, which extend between an inlet chamber of the medium. refrigerant, to one of the

 coolant chambers, and a coolant outlet chamber, at the other end; an inlet and an outlet, for the liquid to be cooled, arranged at opposite ends of the coolant, in the side thereof; two transverse baffles each having a central opening and respectively arranged between the inlet and the outlet and the middle of the coolant ;

   two substantially semi-circular baffles both extending longitudinally between a transverse baffle and one end of the condenser and arranged a short distance around one of the aforesaid central openings, with the middle of their concave face facing the inlet or outlet, and an intermediate transverse baffle disposed between the transverse baffles and having an opening at its periphery.

   The advantages of this arrangement will become apparent from the following description of an exemplary preferred embodiment of the present invention applied to an oil cooler. This example is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section of the coolant; figure 2 is a partial plan corresponding to figure 1 and showing the inlet and outlet of the oil and figure 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of figure 1.

   The coolant is constituted by a cylindrical casing 5 arranged between end plates 6, 16, fixed to one another by tie rods 7 and kept apart by spacers 18. The end plates 6,16 support a a number of tubes extending longitudinally inside the casing 5 and arranged in circumferences concentric with the axis of the casing.

   These tubes have been deleted in Figure 1 in order to simplify the drawing, but the arrangement is visible in Figure 3 where some of these tubes are shown at 8, and where the circumferences on which setrou-

 wind the axes of the tubes are indicated by 9 .. Water inlet and outlet chambers 10, 11 are formed by curved plates 12,13 bolted to the ends of the casing, suitable gaskets being provided to make the joints watertight liquids and the plates having tubes 14 and 15 intended to be connected respectively to the water inlet and outlet pipes.

   Water inlet and outlet pipes, 17 and 117, are located in the cylindrical casing 5 in the vicinity of the ends thereof and the oil inlet pipe 17 is disposed at the same end of the tube. casing as the water inlet 14. A circular plate 19 is placed transversely in the casing in the vicinity of the oil inlet and, on the other side of the oil inlet is the end plate. 6, so that the oil inlet port 20 is located between a pair of transverse baffles spaced apart from each other, and formed by the circular plate 19 and the end plate 6.

  The baffle 19 has a circular opening 22.

   A baffle 23 with a semi-circular section extends longitudinally in the casing between the end plate 6 and the transverse baffle 19. This semi-circular baffle 23 extends over half of the circumference of the central opening 22, and has the middle of its curved face facing the oil inlet, as shown in figure 3, so that it lies between the inlet and the direct path of the liquid flow from the entrance to the opening 22.

   In this way, the oil coming from the inlet orifice is forced, when it meets the curved surface of this semicircular baffle, to flow tangentially with respect to this surface towards the outer rings of tubes; on the other side of the envelope, from the entrance, that is to say from the left side of figure 3, and cannot pass directly from the entrance 20 to the opening 22 of the chicane. Baffle 23 is located near the edge of circular opening 22, so that the oil passes over the plus 711

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 large possible number of tubes before reaching the baffle. For this reason, the oil crosses the compartment transversely to the cooling tubes and can then continue its journey through the central opening 22.

   In the middle of the casing, there is provided a transverse baffle 30 which is supported by the tie rods 7 and whose diameter is smaller than that of the casing body, so that oil can flow through the opening. 31 between the periphery of the baffle 30 and the interior of the body of the cooler, as shown in FIG. 1. The liquid is thus forced to flow radially outwards, from the central opening 22, over all the surface of the refrigerant tubes between the baffles 19 and 30.

   The arrangement of the baffles around the oil outlet opening 120 is similar to that of the oil inlet opening. Oil flows from the peripheral opening of the intermediate baffle 30 through a central opening 122 of a transverse baffle 119 and is forced to flow to the outer rings of refrigerant tubes between the baffle 119 and the end plate 16, by the convex surface of a longitudinal semicircular baffle 123, arranged analogously to baffle 23, before it can get to the outlet 120 of the oil.

   The construction described above constitutes a simple device with the aid of which the heat transmission takes place over the maximum surface of the cooling elements and in which the arrangement of the baffles is furthermore such that a uniform flow rate is obtained without local variations in temperature. speed.
