<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE: OF
LIME CHLORIDE S T A B L E
Normal Lime Chloride is produced in such a way that lime (Ca.O) is quenched by the addition of a suitable amount of water and converted to hydrate of lime (Ca.OH2) in powder form.
This hydrate of lime prepared at a suitable degree of humidity is combined with chlorine gas in devices of different systems as for the manufacture of chloride of lime and consequently one obtains normal commercial chloride of lime:
The known quality of the lime chloride thus produced is that it tends to easily lose its content of active chlorine, even in a hermetically sealed package, particularly under the influence of heat:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In countries with a hot climate, instead of this normal chloride of lime, more stable chloride of lime is used, for example so-called tropical lime chloride, the manufacture of which is carried out according to several elaborate processes, and the stability of the chloride. of lime produced by these processes is higher than% that of normal lime chloride
Thanks to the aforementioned qualities of these special lime chlorides, these are also stored for a longer period without any loss of active chlorine.
The present invention relates to a process which can ensure the stability of lime chloride by increasing the amount of soda lime hydrate which is produced in the apparatus for the production of lime chloride. Appropriate addition of alkaline mixtures The addition of soda to the lime hydrate can also be effected, for example, in a special way, in which the lime is not quenched by water, but at least partially with an aqueous solution of alkaline sodium hydroxide. The concentration of the soda employed is related to the extent to which it is desired to increase the stability of the chloride of lime in comparison with the normal chloride of lime.
On the other hand, the concentration of soda is limited by the circumstance that the capacity of the lime to be quenched decreases by increasing the content of soda. It is advisable to fix the quantity of soda 'in the solution used for slaking the lime between 5 and 40%. The lime thus extinguished can be obtained in the same way as the hydrate of lime obtained by water, without any modification of the apparatus for the production of normal chloride of lime being necessary. Thus, the economical manufacture of a much more valuable product is possible with an already existing installation.
